Villa in Cortezoes, Nr. Montechoro, Albufeira, Algarve, Portugal - Peaceful Location Amidst Olive Groves On The Edge Of Albufeira

Villa Tina is a large property situated in mature gardens of approximately a third of an acre with it's own private swimming pool. It provides accommodation that is very flexible and perfect for two families or a large family with adult children.

The villa has 3 double or twin bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, new well-fitted kitchen, large lounge, dining room and utility. The Villa also has WiFi.

Outside is a pool, (approximately 8m x 4.5m), verandas, terrace and roof-top terrace.

The apartment beneath has its own new kitchen, lounge, dining, two bedrooms, two bathrooms and large terrace. Families or friends holidaying together can thus have their own space and the space to enjoy time together in private and secluded surroundings.

There is a large outside patio area with seating and sun beds for 10 people. There is also a small sand pit for toddlers and a ping pong table for older children and adults.

During the high season we prefer to rent out the Villa and Apartment as a whole to one party or family, but outside of the peak season we often rent out just the 3 bedroom villa. If you are interested in this option please contact us for the lower rates that apply for renting out the villa only.

The area is a happy mix of Portuguese and foreign nationals who patronise 4 local restaurants within walking distance - 3 of which offer outstanding value. Town is a reasonably cheap taxi ride or short car ride away. The villa is very handy for the N125 and thence Algarve shopping.

BEDROOMS: bedroom 1 double with en-suite (twin/double bed). Bedroom 2 twin. Bedroom 3 double.

BATHROOMS: en-suite to bed 1 with bath with shower over, bidet, wc, basin and vanity. Main bathroom underfloor heated with shower, bath with shower, vanity basin, wc.

KITCHEN: kitchen with granite tops, d/oven, microwave, dishwasher, gas hob, breakfast bar, ample oak cupboards.

LIVING AREAS: spacious lounge with wood burner, new leather suite, new large flat-screen tv. Cocktail sink, CD player. Open plan dining room adjacent.

UTILITY ROOM: fridge/freezer, washing machine.

CLEANING/LINEN: Bath, hand towels and linen are included and changed weekly. Egyptian cotton sheets used on all the beds.

Guests need to bring their own pool/beach towels.

PATIO & SWIMMING POOL: The swimming pool is cleaned weekly.

There is a patio table overlooking the pool which seats 10 , and also another table outside the apartment which seats 6.

About the Owner

Hi, we are Greg and Tania. I was a major shareholder in a private housebuilding company which built a lot of luxury homes in Yorkshire over nearly 30 years. We got disillusioned with housebuilding and diversified into leisure - and now run a family-owned holiday park in the Peak District National Park near Dove Dale called Rivendale. Tania designs and makes bridal gowns from her studio near Ashbourne.

We are lucky to live in a small village in beautiful surroundings in Derbyshire which we tend to take for granted. We have travelled to many parts of the world and stayed in some fantastic places - but enjoy returning to Portugal where we have friends, the pace of life is slower, and the sun usually shines.

We loved this location because there is peace and quiet, privacy and vestiges of the old Portuguese way of life around - but we are only a mile or so from Montechoro and a 10 minute drive from Albufeira Old Town & Santa Eulalia beach. Also, we have six bars and restaurants we walk to which have multinational clientele, offer excellent value and - unlike the expat ghettos in the Algarve - remain open in low season. There is everything close by - multiplex cinemas & late night shopping at Algarve shopping about 20 minutes up the road, Michelin starred restaurants & probably the best beaches in Europe at Gale, Evaristo, Raphael, golf everywhere, marinas at Albufeira, Vilamoura, shark fishing etc etc. Faro airport is an easy 40 min drive, Seville is a couple of hours away. It has everything.

A Portuguese hacienda offers riding and trekking opposite the villa - making it ideal for people wanting to go riding.

Sailing holidays:

For those of you interested in sailing, the villa is an ideal place to use as a base for a sailing course. At Albufeira Marina, (approximately 10 minutes away by car,) 'Learn2Sail' offer Competent Crew and Day Skipper courses. These are highly recommended - in fact we've just done one ourselves and had great fun!

It wouldn't be the Algarve if we didn't mention golf. There are literally dozens of some of the world's best golf courses within a 30 minute drive of the villa. If you'd like details then please just let us know..

Portuguese Lessons:

If you'd like to brush up on your Portuguese or even just spend a couple of hours learning the basics we can arrange this.


Albufiera Marina and the fabulous beaches at Gale, Rafael, Arricef, Costelho, Lourenco, Santa Eulalia are all within 10 - 15 minutes drive. It is a longish walk (35 mins) or 15 minute bike ride to Balaia/Santa Eulalia.


Faro airport is about 35 minutes drive away. It would be possible to transfer to the villa, eat in the local restaurants, shop locally, make the odd foray into town by taxi and spend a week or fortnight by the pool. However, that would be to miss taking the kids to zoomarine, enjoying the bustle of algarve shopping at 11 p.m. -10 pin bowling, watching films etc, visiting the gorgeous beaches, the different restaurants overlooking Vilamoura and Albufeira marinas. Car hire is also fairly cheap.


The Villa is about 1 mile from Montechoro and 'The Strip' (famous for its bars and clubs). The fisherman's beach and Old Town in Albufeira is about 2 miles away, the Marina about 3 miles away. With the new motorway it is now possible to visit Lagos in the west in about 40 mites - or travel east to Tavira - a picturesque former Tuna fishing village (40 minutes) and beyond there to Ayamonte in Spain (approx 1 hr 15 minutes) or Seville in just over 2 hours.

Further Details:

Although it is not strictly necessary to hire a car you will find it useful, particularly for those large supermarket shops if you're catering for 10 people or more. The most convenient large supermarket is in Ferreiras - just over a kilometer away. It would probably take you about 25 minutes to walk there. Not too much of a problem if you've only bought bread and croissants but beer and wine can get really heavy!! There are 4 restaurants about 500 - 700 metres away offering a range of excellent value, inexpensive to good quality food - mostly in traditional Portuguese style. Gale - about 15 minutes drive away has the Algarves only 2 Michelin star restaurant at Villa Joya hotel and spa - fabulous if costly. There is a Barclays and other banks in Albufeira, also doctors, WiFi cafes - most things you might need. Car hire in Portugal is inexpensive and Albufeira is really easy to drive around. The coastline is stunning.. We've spent many happy hours driving to new beaches and eating in lovely restaurants. There are so many wonderful places to discover and having a car makes them more accessible. Zoomarine is a great day out for young children, Sand City at Pera is amazing and for those of you who are keen shoppers the delights of Mango, Zara and Mossimo Dutti are only a 15 minute drive away at the Algarve shopping centre which is open until 11pm every night!! If you're not keen on shopping then a visit to Cliff Richard's vineyard, located just behind the Algarve shopping centre might be more to your taste. And to end the day, what better than to visit one of the Chicken Piri Piri restaurants just down the road for which the region is famous.

  • Booking Notes:
    Reservations are accepted with a deposit of 25% of the total booking fee. The balance is payable 28 days prior to departure. A security deposit of £250 is taken and refunded shortly after your departure from the villa following confirmation by our agent that the villa and its contents have been left complete in a fair state allowing for reasonable use. For single sex parties a returnable security deposit of £500 is required. Please let us know if you are a single sex party.

    Changeover Day:
    The preferred changeover day is Friday or Saturday although there is some flexibility.
    In peak season the villa and apartment must be vacated by 10am and will be ready for the next guests at 5pm.

    Notes on prices:
    Unit 1 prices are for use of the 3 bedroom villa + pool and gardens. If you choose this option we will guarantee not to rent out the apartment to other guests during the mid - low season.
    Unit 2 prices are for use of the Villa and Apartment as a whole. Full use of the pool and gardens are obviously included.
    During the months of July and August (high season) we prefer to rent out the Villa and Apartment as a whole unless otherwise agreed. Higher rates may apply.

The great thing about Villa Tina apart from its location is the size of the plot. The garden is secure and private with walls, hedges & gates & ample parking for 4 or more cars. You can pick your own limes, Nesparros, Pomegranites etc from the garden. What is almost unique about Villa Tina is the flexible accommodation. The apartment has its own new kitchen, lounge, bathrooms, dining room, sun terrace - as does the villa. So two families or families with young adults can have their own space to retreat to..but can still sunbathe or have a barbq on the large terraces together. There is even a very private roof top terrace for working on the all over tan. It is possible for young adults to walk to the bars & clubs at The Strip for the nightlife - but taxis are plentiful & cheap.

  • Notes on accommodation: The swimming pool is opposite the villa lounge and the sun terrace outside, and may be seen from the villa kitchen, making it easier to supervise. The villa and apartment are self-contained with their own parking, terraces and so on. The gardens are mature with almond and pepper trees etc. The villa is one of 3 individually built villas on spacious plots with small holdings around - it is not overlooked and part of a large 'urbanisation'. It is situated approximately 500m along a small track with a riding stables opposite. The nearest restaurants are located on the main road. There is a newly built cycle way into town. Please note that the villa and apartment do not have air-conditioning. Outside: The villa has a south-facing verandah outside the dining room french doors. There is also a west-facing covered verandah and terrace a few metres from the swimming pool. However, it is over 5 feet deep at the deep end and there is no fence around it. There is also a large, walled roof terrace accessed by an external stairway offering very private sun-bathing. The apartment has a large south-facing terrace on a lower level adjoining a covered verandah. There is large gravel drive to the apartment through its own access gates. The villa has separate gates accessing a gravel drive and car port. During July and August we prefer to rent out the Villa and Apartment, as a whole, to one group or family.
