Gite On Organic Smallholding

Overview

Property

Updated: 03-Jun-2016
Rural Gite in Mainsat, Nr. Auzances, Creuse, France - Wonderful Views Over The French Countryside

Pellevoisin is an organic small holding situated in the heart of rural France. The gite, set within the grounds of the small holding, has wonderful views across the unspoilt rolling countryside. Recently converted from an old barn, the gite has two light and airy bedrooms, which have been tastefully renovated and a bathroom on the first floor. Downstairs the open plan kitchen and living area leads out onto the secluded courtyard and private garden where you can relax and unwind in the hammock or prepare a meal on the barbeque, to be enjoyed on one of the outdoor eating areas. Fresh produce from the garden is available depending on the season. La Creuse is an ideal location if you want to 'get away from it all'. The quiet roads and footpaths make it ideal for walkers and cyclists. The local swimming lakes with beaches are great for the children and the historic towns of Aubusson and Felletin with it's wonderful Friday market, are nearby.

About the Owner

We moved to La Creuse ten years ago to establish our smallholding and to find a tranquil corner of the world where we could bring up our children. We are both practicing artists, running art classes in the local community. We are interested in self sufficiency and have sheep, chickens and an extensive vegetable garden, selling seasonal organic veg boxes. We are also currently involved in felt-making using the fleece from our Jacob sheep.

Rural retreat away from it all

  • 4 of 5

Excellent owners who couldn't have been more helpful. We arrived in the evening and our hosts had left us everything we would need for a comfortable stay. Lovely touch was the blackboard with local events for our stay and a box file full of leaflets with tourist attractions. Comfortable gite with everything thought of - lovely outside area with sunloungers and picnic table.

Would say that finding restaurants that were open was an issue - so expect to cook - that said the oven was great as was the barbecue and a good range of pots, pans and utensils.

Beds were comfy and hot water plentyful with a lovely clean bathroom. Washing machine was very useful and to be honest the gite is well thought out.

It is a wonderful place to relax and unwind and again super people in Susan and Tom.

Wonderful hosts, superb location, perfect comfort

  • 5 of 5

I had the great pleasure of staying at this gite with my son this summer and, like the previous reviewer, cannot recommend it highly enough. Tom and Susan have done an absolutely superb job of renovating a beautiful building and we simply could not have been happier or made more welcome or more comfortable.

The location, Pellevoisin, is superb, just out of the village of Mainsat but secluded enough to make you feel that your cares are a million miles away. The view from the outdoor area in front of the gite (there are two other lovely outdoor areas behind) is just stunning and to say that it's simply beautiful rolling countryside as far as they eye can see doesn't begin to do it justice.

In a country where the beds can often feel like topographical reliefs of the terrain, all hills and valleys, the beds here are firm without feeling at all hard and very, very comfortable. The bedrooms upstairs are light, spacious, and welcoming. The bathroom is bright and nicely done, with an enormous tub should one prefer that to the shower. The water supply is strong and hot.

Downstairs is a well-equipped kitchen and living area. The kitchen, which was a real pleasure to use, also contains a washing machine so laundry is no problem if your stay is an extended one (which you'll wish it was). The comfortable living area, with tv, stereo, and plenty to read, leads through to the leafy outdoor areas at the back of the gite.

If you can tear yourself away from the comforts of Pellevoisin, there's plenty to do and see in the area and some wonderful little markets in the villages nearby. Don't miss the croissants from the boulangerie in Mainsat, the equal of any I've had anywhere.

Tom and Susan, artists, farmers, hosts par excellence, are simply wonderful people, warm, charming, and helpful. They've created something very special in Pellevoisin, not to mention some very special memories for my son and I. We can't wait to return.

Bliss in the deepest countryside

  • 5 of 5

This was one of the most peaceful and relaxing weeks I have ever had. If you are after tranquil, quiet and beautiful surroundings, a friendly welcome and the chance to totally unwind, I cannot recommend Susan and Thomas's gite highly enough. Everything you could possibly need was provided and its the small touches that make all the difference. Having your own private garden, with plenty of seating, a barbecue and hammock under the trees, where you can watch the cows graze and the butterflies flit around is so relaxing. It really is off the beaten track, but with easy access to a multitude of lovely places to visit. Would particularly recommend seeing the wolves near Gueret and the Lac de Vassiviere, but if you like wildlife, even just going for a walk locally is an experience.

Location

From the Owner

We fell in love with the property as soon as we saw it. We were bowled over by the lovely views across the open, rolling countryside. The smallholding is set at the end of a country lane which ends at our house, so there is no passing traffic and we are tucked away from it all in our little piece of heaven.
