About the property

Villa in Prines, Rethymnon, Crete - Stone Villa, Peaceful Location, Modern

Luxury stone villa, built in the traditional Greek way but with modern comfort. Situated in a garden with a swimming pool, large lawn, parking area and a choice of terraces and shaded areas to dwell during the day.

Unspoilt natural environment, spectacular views of the sea and of the White Mountains. Very peaceful location. Walking distance from the village, where you can find two minimarkets and two village taverns. At 5 km you can find the closest beach, at 6km is lively Rethymnon. An ideal location for discovering the island, because also the spectacular south coast is at relative short distance. EOT licence 1041K92003067401

About Friso van Voorthuizen

We live in Holland and we have our holiday home, Villa Nessos on Crete, built in 2005. When we do not use it ourselves, we rent it out. The beauty of the house is that it has been built from natural stone, the way they did it in ancient history. But now with modern comfort.

Friso van Voorthuizen purchased this villa in 2005

Guestbook comments from the owner

Quotes from our guestbook:

October 2013 What a great house with a beautiful garden and a lovely pool. We enjoyed the trips in the surroundings and to Kyma beach, recommended. The tavern of Jiannis in the village is super. We have eaten there almost every night.

Nice stay in Prines

  • 4 of 5

Nice house, very nice pool, everything was ok. You have to walk about 15 minutes to the city of Prines (very dark at night) or go by car. Rethymnon is very nice and the beaches also are fine, if you go a few minutes right or left from Rethymnon. You definetivly need a car, when you book this house!

Villa Nessos exceeded our expectations and had every creature comfort we could have needed.

  • 5 of 5

Our communications with the Villa owners before our holiday were fantastic; and our arrival in the middle of the night was accommodated with ease. Thereafter, Villa Nessos offered us everything we needed, and the bonus of the swimming pool and Wi-Fi internet to keep teenage boys engaged was great. We'd certainly recommend Giannikos taverna which is close by. We visited a couple of times and the host / service / food was all first class. The nearby bakery is great for the morning bread, while LIDL are about 10 mins on the main national road. The situation of the Villa 1/2 way between Chania and Heraklion was ideal for us and gave us a great opportunity to explore a good deal of Crete by hire car. First class holiday; and have no hesitation in making a recommendation !

An excellent choice

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely house in a beautiful village. We could not have chosen better, so much so that we will hopefully be returning to a larger property in Prines next summer with the whole family. The property is beautifully presented and maintained with a pristine pool. Herbert and his wife, who look after the villa, are readily available and very helpful. The villa is well situated so that you can have a relaxing walk to the local taverna, which has excellent Tripadvisor reviews, and we did this many times. Mini markets are in the village and larger supermarkets a short drive away. It is also easy to access the National coastal road or the roads to the south coast. Excellent beaches with easy parking and good facilities are only 15 minutes away at Kyma beach. Rethymnon has something for everyone, and excellent restaurants.

Villa nessos

  • 5 of 5

Have just returned from a weeks stay at the villa which was wonderful in every way. The villa had everything you could possibly need including a bottle of wine to welcome us. The views were perfect. A great location for touring around and lovely beaches. The local taverna Giannikos is a must we went there a few times and could not fault it. Thanks the owner works so hard and a pleasure to meet. The owners of the villa were most helpful and informative. What a great time and hope to return to Crete

Brilliant family holiday, great villa

  • 5 of 5

Before we arrived in Crete the correspondence we had with it's owners was great we had a few questions beforehand and they were always answered promptly and provided us with the information (and more besides) that we needed.

We visited Villa Nessos in August 2015 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The villa was immaculate, clean, well equiped and very comfortable. The pool and the gardens provided us with relaxation and fun!

The local caretakers who lived close by were on hand if we needed anything (we did arrive with a flat tyre which Herbert helped to change!) which was reassuring.

The village itself were the villa is located takes about 10 minutes walk to reach where a small shop selling fresh bread and a brilliant taverna are located (Giannikos, highly recommended) Rethymnon which is a large town where there are abundant shops and restaurants is a 10/15minute drive.

We also visited many pretty villages close by but not travel too far afield as the weather was so hot and our children aged 12 & 10 do not like being in the car for too long.

I would certainly recommend this villa and we will no doubt return in the future.

Villa Nessos was fantastic.

  • 5 of 5

When we first arrived there was a lovely complimentary bottle of wine waiting for us, which was a lovely surprise. Herbert and his wife were excellent in looking after us. We were so relaxed after our stay. We would highly recommend staying at the villa.
