"Flowerpots" Ideally Placed For Sightseeing and Discovering Normandy,
'Flowerpots' is a rural retreat found at the end of leafy lane in the heart of the picturesque Normandy countryside. Sympathetically restored to retain most of its original features, our bed and breakfast accommodation provides a comfortable stay for up to 7 guests. We are open all year round for all types of holidays, or simply an overnight break. Ideally located between the famous copper town of Villedieu les Poeles and Gavray, we are within easy access of the A84 to Caen, or Avranches. Enjoy the fishing port of Granville, just 25mins away or Coutances with its cathedral, or the enigmatic Mont St. Michel. For the children, the popular zoo at Champrepus, is a 5min car drive away. Bayeux with its tapestry and the D Day Landing beaches are a little further afield but worth the journey. Alternatively, potter around our large garden of flowers, trees and shrubs, or relax and sit under the pagoda and enjoy the views of the countryside. Alternatively you are welcome to join us for some alfresco dining as we light the barbecue! Ferry discounts are available.

About the Owner
Following a romantic weekend in Normandy, not only did we get engaged, we fell in love with the area and bought a house. Our renovation of "Flowerpots" has been a labour of love involving family and our dear French friends who have now become an invaluable part of our life here.
We have learnt a few valuable lessons on the way, 1. always accept an invitation - you may not be asked twice, 2. take your dog everywhere, as you never know where you may end up or what time you will get back! 3. always have aperitifs in, as you never know who is going to turn up!
Our aim at "Flowerpots" is to provide our guests with a warm and friendly welcome combined with a genuine hospitality.
We are excited to be able now to share our restored venture "Flowerpots" with our guests.

From the Owner
“We chose Normandy because we wanted a property that was within easy reach of the ferry ports, but far enough into France that you felt that exciting tingle that told you, "you were on holiday". Our aim was to find an affordable property to renovate as a project, that we could undertake piece by piece, and that would also provide us with a bit of a holiday. We found the perfect package here in Le Mesnil Garnier. As we loved "Flowerpots" so much, after six years of weekend retreats and a holiday home Flowerpots became home permanently! We have a property that is ideally located to provide our guests with easy access to all the famous Normandy tourist attractions. Nestled into the Normandy countryside, we provide our guests with a rural getaway and a chance to sample our home grown produce.”
Activity and Interests
"Flowerpots" is only a 20-25 min drive to the unspoilt sandy beaches of the west coast. Probably one of the most popular is St Martin de Brehal which has sand that stretches for miles. Its a safe clean beach and home to the famous mussel beds which can be seen at low tide. There are bars and restaurants to sample the locally caught produce. Moules et Frites are a must when in season!
There are a number of ways to get to us. If you bring your car the nearest ferry ports are Caen (Ouistrem) and Cherbourg with approx 1hr - 1hr 15 min. St Malo is 1hr 30 min, and for Le Harve allow a good 2 hr. To fly, try Dinard airport which is approx 1hr 30 min away with flights from Stansted, Birmingham and East Midlands. However, you will need a car once you arrive. There is also an efficient SNCF Railway station at Villedieu, with its regular service to Granville and Paris.
We are located between Villedieu Les Poeles, famous for its copper industry and Bell Foundry, and the market town of Gavray. Both within easy reach, with Villedieu a 10 - 15 min drive, (about 7km), and Gavray about a 4km drive. Places of interest include Bayeux (80 min drive) with its Tapestry, the historical Mont St. Michel, (@ 35 min drive), Avranches, (20/25 min drive) with its museum, shops, bars and restaurants. Coutances (20/25 min drive), is home to its beautiful Cathedral with twin spires.
The general market day for Gavray and Avranches is on a Saturday, with Villedieu on Tuesdays. The markets are varied and you can find locally produced honey, fruit and vegetables sitting side by side with local arts, crafts and livestock. There are two supermarkets in Villedieu which are open all day, and all the towns mentioned have cash machines.
For leisure, there are some activity centres nearby, for horse riding, swimming, walking, cycling and karting. For the children, there is the zoo at Champrepus, just a 5 minute drive away. Its a popular park for holidaymakers and locals. Given that we are within easy reach of the port of Granville, and depending on the length of your stay, why not take a ferry trip to the Island of Chausey or one of the Channel Islands.
