Ground floor apartment in Tuckenhay, Nr. Totnes, South Devon, England - Beautiful Rural Location with Outstanding Views

Wharf Corner is part of an old stone warehouse, probably dating from about 1800 and converted 30 years ago into 3 substantial apartments. Situated on the banks of Bow Creek, a tidal tributary of the River Dart, Wharf Corner is so named because a 100+ years ago, quite large boats would tie up at the quayside to load and unload.

The view is constantly changing, and with it the types of birds that visit: at high tide we have cormorants; at low tide egrets and herons; and at mid-tide kingfishers. We provide a kayak with which Bow Creek can be explored, but you can bring your own form of river transport. Fishing from the quay is permitted. Within walking distance there are good local facilities for eating out. Throughout the year the Maltsters Arms hosts musical and other events indoors which can only be heard by attending them. The location is exceptional: all but one of our photographs are taken within 1 mile. The first 16 either feature the property, or are taken from it.

Excellent villa in a great location

The villa was excellent. It's located within walking distance of the beach, old town and strip. The pool was very cold, as could be expected in October. Every bedroom has an en suite. Transfers were arranged for us by the management company and the minibus was there on time and was very reasonably priced. The only slight negative was the pool table, which is in a really poor state of repair; but we didn't go there to play pool.

Wonderful

This property was very well equipped and lovely. Wonderful for a winter break and I would imagine wonderful for the summer. Spotlessly clean lovely welcoming owners very spacious could not fault the property ideal for all locations. Very comfortable.

Coast/Beach:

Blackpool Sands is a beautiful beach and is 9 miles or 20 mins by car, Paignton is slightly further and Torquay is about 30 mins away. There is a host of places to explore within an hours drive - Salcombe, Kingsbridge, Burgh Island, Bigbury and more...

Travel:

Totnes is on the main line from Paddington, but once here bicycles or a car would be essential as local transport is scarce. The nearest airports is at Exeter, about 45 mins away by car.

Distances:

Totnes is 3.5 miles by road, but you can walk to it along the river, about an hours very pleasant walk via Ashprington and Sharpham. Post office and village store at Harbertonford, about 3 miles away.

Further Details:

Dartmoor can be accessed from many directions, but Holne is 30 mins away by car, 15 miles. The North Devon coast is less that 2 hours away, and the Cornish border about 1 hour.

Towels are available for an additional charge of £4 per person.

  • Outside: Wharf Corner has an open patio with tables and seating for 5. On the quay there is seating for 5, and space in the summer house for 4 adults. On a windy day you can be almost on the water, but very cosy! Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen provided, towels on request at modest cost.
