About The Owner

Dear future guests, We are a large family living in the Dordogne countryside. We have been living overseas in Asia and the Middle East for many years and have recently moved permanently to France. After years of travelling and renting holiday homes ourselves, we hope we provide everything you will need for a very comfortable stay with us. We are now renting our lovely cottage in West Sussex as a holiday let also. We are very lucky to own two such beautiful properties and we hope you enjoy them too.

The Owner purchased this farmhouse in 2007

Why The Owner chose Dordogne

After staying at a friends house for Easter in the Dordogne 10 years ago, we completely fell in love with the area! We then searched to buy a holiday home and used to visit every summer and enjoyed the cooler weather far from the very hot Middle East. We decided to move permanently and found this fantastic place! We are surrounded by friends who bought holiday homes in this area too, so we have great get togethers in the summer here in France. The gite is on the edge of the property and is a detached, wonderful stone cottage with it's own charm and character. It has separate access, patio and gardens stretching for acres and a fantastic view. The sunsets are amazing and you have completely uninterrupted views. If you love strawberries we are in the strawberry centre of the Dordogne!

What makes this farmhouse unique

We offer a fully detached gite, many others have rows of gites with other guests sitting in the same garden, here you have the privacy and peace of your own place. The pool is huge, well built with a shallow and deep end, very spacious patio where you can relax totally alone. The beds in the property are very comfortable and will give you a great nights rest.

The kitchen is fully equipped where you can cook a roast, prepare a great BBQ or bake a cake. When cooking, you can still be with the rest of your party as the area is fully integrated and has dual aspects. The gite garden is totally private and there are acres of rolling countryside to view and watch the sunset. After years of renting gites for our own large family, we hope we provide everything we think you will need and want!

The warmest welcome! 5* holiday for our family!

  • 5 of 5

Tracey, Tim and family gave us a wonderfully, warm welcome - and that made all the difference! A stylish, comfortable property with lovely views - Gite Lavande has the best sunset terrace - and use of their heated swimming pool. It ticked all the boxes for our young family (boys of 7 & 4) with all the animals, room to run around, and so many local day trips. The first holiday we've had with children where we actually relaxed......bliss! Tracey made a brilliant cake for our sons 7th birthday - really memorable. We booked to return on our last day of the holiday - that says it all really! Thank you so much from the Edmonds family and see you next year! X

Brilliant family holiday

  • 5 of 5

We arrived to a delicious 2 course meal prepared by the Furness family - A perfect start to a perfect holiday. Tracey,Tim, Kit and Evie made us so welcome and to have them on hand for help and advice was very reassuring, nothing was ever a problem. We loved living in their beautiful gite, it was equipped with everything you could possibly need and the beds were large and very comfy. The swimming pool was immaculate and very warm with the most wonderful views - it was very difficult to leave and we spent a lot of the holiday relaxing around the pool area. The surrounding villages were so pretty. We enjoyed days out to Sarlat/Brantome/Periguex/Les Eyzies and Limeuil but hurried back to fit in a dip in the pool !

A huge thank-you to you all for your help and company. We are already talking about a return trip.

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a few days in September at Gite Lavande. It was really the most beautiful set up with a gorgeous bedroom, dinner on arrival and Tracey even made a birthday cake for my wife, a real treat after a long journey. The setting is fantastic with our own private view! The pool was warm, huge and to have a 5 star hotel type pool just for the two of us..well what can we say!!! Tracey and her family were so helpful with directions, days out and we even had an outdoor cinema night - comfy sofas, popcorn, gin & tonics and a great film in the garden! We didn't want to leave!! We will be back, we miss Gite Lavande and all the fun we had. Thank you to your lovely family for making it so special.

Completely Fabulous

  • 5 of 5

This was without doubt one of our favourite holiday destinations to date.

The Gite itself was beautiful, equipped with more than we could have needed and set in the most peaceful surroundings. Within hours we felt relaxed and completely at home.

I was very glad to have a car, as whilst we spent most of our time relaxing in the Gite, the garden or the pool, having the freedom to visit some of the nearby towns and attractions proved very worthwhile. Both Perigueux and Bergerac were wonderful and are definitely worth a visit.

Tracey, Tim and their wonderful children were superb hosts and great company. We were left wanting for nothing and never felt like burden. Their hospitality went way beyond expectations and has ensured that we will be making a return visit.

Thank you to the whole Furness clan.

Fantastic Stay at Gite Lavande

  • 5 of 5

Wow! What more can I really say.

We turned up at the Gite to a lovely "afternoon tea", specially prepared by Tracey and had a guided tour of the property.

Everything was perfect. The Gite is equisitely furnished and decorated and with extra little touches we just didn't expect.

The Gite was well equipped and we didn't want for anything, despite Tracey & Tim kindly offering to lend items - although "thank you for the handfuls of pasta"!

The Gite was well located which meant we were quite literally half an hour from everything! Hypermarkets, Caves, Historical Towns ... what more can you want?

Tracey & Tim were great hosts and made us feel very welcome and their children were a credit to them. Especially their daughter who became great friends with ours and made their holiday even more enjoyable.

I can't say thank you enough, we had a truly lovely time and we are all in agreement, we would definitely return to Gite Lavande.

Thank you.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your fantastic comments. We love having families who are such fun and appreciate everything - makes it all worth while, even though we are still making new flower gardens as I have a break and write this... We look forward to welcoming to our cottage in West Sussex in November, we hope you will love it there too. Evie misses the girls and we were sorry when you all left!! You are welcome back any time and especially a certain someone who may sort out some more landscaping projects! Furness family x

Lovely holiday

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a relaxing 2 week holiday at Gite Lavende.

The Gite is very comfortable, clean and well appointed.

The pool was a great hit with all the family and several relaxing afternoons were spent lazing by it.

To access the pool you do have to cross the owners garden, but this really wasn't a problem at all.

The Furness family were really welcoming with great recommendations of places to visit, including the spectacular caves nearby at Rouffignac which we wouldn't have known about otherwise.

The small town of Vergt is just 5 minutes away by car and has a well-stocked Intermarche. It seems to be the only supermarket locally that sells the fabulous La Goudale beer.

We strongly recommend a visit to the Gouffre de Padirac, a stunning cave system with a gondola ride as an integral part of the tour. Don't be put off by the queues - they move reasonably quickly and the caves are definitely worth an hour's wait.

We are missing the chickens - it was lovely to have them clucking around us when we sat outside enjoying a glass of white Bergerac.

Archie (the dog) is a real sweetie and we enjoyed his occasional visits.

Warm regards, Tracey, Tim, the children, chickens and Archie X X
