House With Private Pool Together With Separate Pool House (rented as one)

Overview

Property

Updated: 08-Dec-2016
Holiday Home in Poulx, between Nimes and Uzes, Languedoc-Roussillon, France - Peaceful Village Between Nimes And Uzes

The house is in the centre of Poulx near to a local shop, bar and chemist and bakery. The house is completely surrounded by a tall hedge and therefore private. It is rustic. There is a pool house with a double bed and kitchen with BBQ where we tend to stay most days although we usually sleep in the main house. The garden is very well maintained, with beautiful big trees and rosebushes. House is SPLIT LEVEL with 2 bedrooms, a kitchen, loo, shower room and sitting room on the top level and through a downstairs entrance is a double room with shower room, loo and laundry. The area is quiet (but the road from Nimes to Uzes runs through the village) and well positioned to visit Nimes, Uzes, Avignon, Montpellier, Aigues Mortes and Le Grau du Roi (all within 1 hr drive). The Gardon river flows nearby and at Collias (6kms away) you can take beautiful canoe trips down the river for 8kms and under Le Pont du Gard (Roman aquaduct) and get a lift back to Collias for about 20 Euros per person: stunning natural views and great swimming. There is no fence around the pool so children need to be monitored at all times.

Fabulous house for all and perfect for our family with older children and independent teenagers - within minutes of arriving our daughter's teenage friend announced that she didn't ever want to leave...

Fortunately for anyone looking for an ideal holiday house, we did! The house has all the benefits of being situated in the middle of the village but is extremely private and quiet. Table tennis, trampoline and games; lovely pool in a pretty secluded garden with plenty of sunloungers; a shady swing seat for reading and relaxing.

Bliss... Added bonus of Eve's excellent recommendations and directions, which we used as our holiday guide and had something for everyone. For restless teenagers, the bus stop for Nimes is straight across the road, as are the local shops shops, and Poulx is conveniently situated for visiting the region.

Wonderful area, fantastic holiday, however..

  • 3 of 5

The house is extremely well situated in a lovely small town with all the shops you need on your doorstep-the butchers is particularly good. The house and pool are set in beautiful garden areas and the pool is fabulous together with the poolside furniture. We slept in the main house and spent long and happy lazy days at the poolside and in the pool house. However, the property is tired. The bedding and towels were not pristine, apart from the bathrooms the house was not clean nor were the ovens, crockery or cutlery. The barbecue was unusable. These faults detracted from the start of the holiday but after a day of cleaning we did enjoy being in such a great area of France with so many wonderful attractions-Pont du Gard, Arles, Avignon, Camargue, Les Baux de Provence and many more stunning places. With the reservations above we would recommend this property but do not expect pristine conditions or luxury.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review Stuart, I am pleased that you liked the house and particularly the garden. I am sorry that you didn't judge the house as clean as it had been cleaned by a professional before your arrival and then I came to double clean it after. I washed every knife and fork and all the plates and glasses so am a little surprised at your comments. Incidentally another family have just arrived and they said it was imaculate. The house is rustic and difficult to give the 'IKEA' look to which we do not want ayway. I agree that the house is tatty and the shutters need painting. I have taken your comments on board and will be buying new sheets although the old ones were clean of course but granted a bit tatty. The towels were new. Apologies about the BBQ, that got overlooked and I'm sorry you had to clean it. I'm glad that you enjoyed your holiday.

Good, but not 5 star

  • 3 of 5

We stayed in Eve's house in September 2014. She was excellent in all our pre-holiday communications, and we were welcomed on arrival exactly as planned. The house is generously proportioned, with more than adequate space for the five adults in our group. The no.1 ace is the pool - really good size, and superb for swimming or just dangling your feet after a hot afternoon out. The Pool House was our base. We ate there every time.

The condition of the house is OK, but it's getting to need some attention. Some of it is superficial (a coat of paint here and there); other jobs are more substantial (shutters and window frames in need, really, of replacement).

Having said which, we thoroughly enjoyed our time there, and got to some lovely places both in Languedoc-Roussillon and in Provence.

Great family holiday house.

  • 5 of 5

My husband, two daughters and I spent two weeks in this villa. It was a wonderfully relaxing stay. Swimming in the nearby river at La Baume is a must, the water is freezing at first but after counting to 60 you just don't want to get out. We believe it does wonders for your health, especially after a long lunch around the pool and a little too much local rose! I would recommend going after the midday heat because there isn't much shade. Although our favorite beach is a 40 min drive away, I'd much rather stay here because you can avoid the coastal traffic. We made it to the beach about every three days.

The house itself is very comfortable, I wouldn't describe it as flash but it has typical south of France charm. We spent all our time in the pool house anyway. My husband could cook us lovely lunches in there while we basked in the sun or swam in the very decent sized pool and he didn't feel cut off. We also loved having the option of sitting in the shade under those lovely trees. Good garden furniture.

The owner gave some great suggestions of local activities which we managed to do all of plus a quick road trip to Provence and the Gorges Du Verdon.

We loved vibrant Nimes, and found Uzes just breath taking. Even the drive there was stunning.

All round a great holiday home and good value. We are already planning to stay again next year.

Thank you.

Fantastic base for a great holiday!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the house in Poulx for two weeks in July 2013. The house was lovely - great for one or two families or for families bringing extra teenagers with them. The pool and poolhouse became our more or less permanent base when we were at the house, everything we needed was there. The house is really well situated for the village shops and facilities. The garden is lovely, some beautiful trees and plenty of bird-life. There is lots of space to sit in the sun or shade depending on your needs!

Montpellier, Nimes, Avignon and Uzes are all very accessible and well worth a visit. The beach at L'Espiguette is a bit further away but worth visiting (stop off in Aigues-Mortes on the way).

My family had a great holiday in the house and local area. Enough to even keep teenage girls happy!!

Owner's Response: Hi Moe, Thanks for your great recommendation - it's hardly a 5 star hotel, but I love it too! Thanks for the 5 stars. I hope all is well with you. It's so horrible and dreary here and I can see that it is 27 degrees in Nimes - agony. The flights are so cheap now too...if only I didn't have to work. All the best, Eve

Location

From the Owner

My father-in-law was a local here so we wanted to experience the region in which he grew up and then became addicted!

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Nimes at 10 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : Bar Solo at 300 Metres Nearest Train : Nimes at 10 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : A9 at 5 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : L'Amandier at 500 Metres Nearest Beach : L'Espiguettes at 50 Kilometres

Coast/Beach:

The house is 50 mins drive from the rolling sand dune beach of L'Espiguettes which is 6kms from the walled city of Aigues Mortes and 2kms from Le Grau du Roi. The beach is not touristy at all with a small beach cafe that serves baguette sandwiches, cold drinks and cheap cold rose. There is a nudist beach if you fancy it next door. It's not packed, even in August. There is a beautiful river near the house (5kms) for clean swimming called the Gardon. Best swimming spots are La Baume and Collias. La Baume is literally in the village and it is incredibly beautiful with very few people. It is the most beautiful river that I have ever seen in France. At Collias you can hire canoes and row through beautiful scenery and under the Pont Du Gard.

Travel:

The nearest airport is Garons, Nimes which is about 12kms from the house. 30 mins drive max. Montpellier and Marseille are both within one hour's drive in normal traffic. Car rental is available from the airport and is recommended to fully experience the area.

Distances:

The house is bang in the centre of Poulx which is equidistant between Nimes and Uzes (15 min drive). Avignon is 30 mins drive, Aigues Mortes - 45 mins, Montpellier 1 hour, Orange 1 hour.

Further Details:

In Poulx itself there are 2 bakeries, one local shop, one good butchers, a hairdressers, one tabac, a chemist, a market on Wednesday mornings, one posh restaurant and one bar/restaurant, one brasserie and a pizza restaurant.

Facilities

From the Owner

We love being the only British here in the village where the locals are welcoming and helpful not to mention that the river which is magnificent and accessible from Poulx itself is magnificent. Also we love the Roman city of Nimes and the Medieval town of Uzes where there is loads of action for everyone's taste. The beach we go to is only 50 minutes from here where there are rolling sand dunes, kite-surfing and not too many British tourists!

By agreeing to rent the property, paying guests accept responsibility for the safety of their children. Outside: The pool is not heated and is 10 metres in length and 4 metres wide. The pool house provides a great area for eating out by the pool and shade from the sun. Utility Room: Washing machine and ironing board + iron. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Guests are required to leave the house in the same condition as they find it for the next guests unless a cleaner is requested at the cost of €70. We provide bath and beach towels and bed linen and arrange for them to be washed. Other: We prefer to cook in the pool house as there is a dining area under a partial roof which is next to the pool and has a lovely outlook.
