Townhouse in Skopelos, Sporades, Greek Islands - Quiet Location, 2 Minutes Walk to the Bustling Harbour

It is said that Skopelos is the greenest of all the Greek islands and once you have spent some time exploring this magical place it is a difficult claim to deny. With five million pines, fifty thousand olive trees and only five thousand inhabitants it is a place where the natural world dominates and the heat of the beaches is fringed by the cool of the forests. There are also many broad leaf trees to be seen including sweet chestnuts, walnuts and oak trees, as well as a variety of wild flowers and orchids. In addition, the island was once famous for the production of plums which were dried in the many plum ovens that create one of the myriad of architectural features seen throughout Skopelos. Skopelos has a fabulous, varied coastline of sweeping beaches, rugged cliffs and azure blue seas. All but a couple of the beaches are made up of pebbles - ideal for snorkelling. Skopelos Town has a good variety of waterfront tavernas, bars and cafes, as well as original pottery shops.

Notes on accommodation: Non-smoking. Outside: The house has a large roof terrace with all day sun. It is furnished with garden furniture to seat 6. There is also a balcony on the 1st floor. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are included. There is a linen cupboard for any change of linen as required, as well as beach towels to use. The property is cleaned on a weekly basis. Other: 2nd floor kitchen (with washing machine and fridge) leading to a large roof terrace with stunning views of the harbour, the mountains beyond and the island of Alonissos.

Stunning!! A stunning house on a Stunning Island.

The townhouse is in a super location.

We were met from the ferry by Blanche who immediately made us feel so welcome. Her passion and love of Skopelos shines through! She advised on where to eat which beaches to visit which roads to travel on our scooter. She talked us through the house and was indeed inspirational. The house is very pretty, exceptionally clean and so very comfortable, we immediately felt at home.Rosie's House lacks nothing it has Everything you could want ,need and imagine - real home from home on a grand scale. Each floor of the house just became impossibly better ending with the roof terrace and the spectacular view, table/chairs and all important sunbeds! Fantastic! The location in the midst of town could not have been more convenient and yet so quiet. I wish our stay could have been longer but we hope to return next year. I would definitely recommend this house to any couple holidaying on this gorgeous island. It's a perfect place to stay.

A fantastic house on a beautiful Island

We were met from the ferry by Blanche and James who kindly took the time to show us some beaches and restaurants to visit. When we arrived at the house it was AMAZING!! It is spotlessly clean and furnished to high standard, you want for nothing! The views from the roof terrace of the harbour are wonderful. The house is in perfect position in Skolelos, a few minutes gentle stroll from the harbour through narrow streets with shops, no traffic goes past the house so very quiet. The Island of Skolelos is magical, superb beaches and amazing places to eat, we were spoilt for choice and everyone is so friendly and makes you feel welcome. Thank you for sharing your house and introducing us to this Island. We have used this site on many occasions, Rosie's house is without doubt the best property we have stayed in. We will return!!

Pretty perfect

This is our 2nd time in this beautiful town house nestled in the old town of Skopelos. The position is amazing and the house is fully equipped including wifi should you need to catch up on a few emails! The roof terrace is amazing; the house is light and spotlessly clean, the double bed is very comfortable, lots of storage and hanging space so you won’t be living out of a suitcase and a great shower to wash off all the sand after a day on the beach. Pretty perfect all round………

Amazing roof terrace!

Beautiful town house, very clean and extremely well equipped and we felt at home instantly. Location excellent, very quiet yet only a few minutes walk down steps to bakery, shops and harbour where we enjoyed sitting and people watching. The roof terrace was amazing, great views of the harbour and perfect for enjoying a chilled glass of wine. Lots of excellent restaurants nearby. A fabulous week, highly recommended.

Exceptional house and location

This townhouse was perfect. The bedroom was very quiet, comfy mattress and aircon welcome. Very nice modern shower room and separate WC.

The living space was really comfortable with two sofas and large french windows allowing it to be flooded with light. Kitchen really well equipped.

Fantastic roof top terrace for eating out and sunbathing.

The owners clearly take great pride in the property and as they stay there regularly it is in first class condition as repairs are spotted and dealt with.

The location was very good. It was an easy walk up along some of the nicest shopping streets from the harbour with steps only on the last short stretch. As the house is on steps there was no noise from scooters passing immediately in front. The neighbours would sit outside and chatter away in greek which added real charm. The swifts flew all around the roof top terrace and was pretty much the only sound you would hear.

We spent long leisurely mornings and evenings in the house and explored the island during the day. There is no parking outside the house but this is not an issue as we parked down at the harbour and broke the short walk back with a cold beer.

There were all the necessary local shops to get daily provisions and many restaurants close by.

I would strongly recommend this property to any couple who want a comfortable stay in a convenient location which retains an authentic Greek feel alongside the tourist facilities.

Special interest holidays:

With its varied and scenic landscapes, Skopelos provides the perfect environment for the walker and you can walk for hours without encountering a car. It is especially beautiful in the Spring, when it is cooler and the island is covered in wild flowers. In early summer the spring anemones, orchids and rock roses are replaced by plants like brooms and chrysanthemums, and Autumn brings wild cyclamen and winter crocus. Skopelos also gets its share of bird watchers, with over 60 species of wild, native or migratory birds registered. Several good walking guides can be found, each one having detailed walking maps and directions. Guided walks are also available. The beaches are largely un-commercialised, although some offer a taverna or two for a drink or long leisurely meal.

Coast/Beach:

Most of the beaches on Skopelos are a mixture of sand, shingle and pebbles with the sandiest beaches being at Limnonari and Ag Yiannis. Some beaches are more lively than others, with kantinas on the beach playing differing types of music whilst others have no facilities at all and tend to be quiet even in the height of the season. Kastani beach on the western side of the island was the beach chosen for much of the filming of 'Mama Mia'. If you really want to get away from it all, try Perivoliou.

Travel:

The nearest airport is Skiathos and the it is a short taxi drive to the port from which you take a ferry or hydrofoil (flying cat or flying dolphin) to Skopelos and this takes between 50-60 minutes. Alternatively, you can fly to Athens or Thessaloniki, both of which have bus services to the ports of Volos and/or Agios Konstantnis. Both of these ports run ferries and hydrofoils to Skopelos.

Distances:

From Skopelos harbour the house is a 5 minute walk. A car is not necessary for staying on the island as there is a good bus and taxi service. However, should you wish to hire a car, there are a number of car hire companies in town.

Skopelos Island offers the visitor a rich and varied holiday experience. As one of the most traditional and picturesque towns found in the Greek islands, with its expanse of pristine nature, beaches and clean water, it is a place to fall in love with. It’s no wonder so many people who visit return again and again. The shops on the waterfront of Skopelos Town sell many gift items, at least three or four selling beautiful locally hand-crafted ceramics. Embroidered pieces can be purchased either in town or when visiting one of the monasteries and many local products, presented in a 'cottage industry' style, are well worth taking home, for example plums, almonds, fruits and honey – all locally grown. Some olive oil is also produced on the island and is sold under the label 'Peparithos', the ancient name for the island. Jewellery is a very good buy for those wishing to take a gift home, with two of the jewellers in Skopelos having their own workshop and designing unique pieces in gold and silver. An excellent way of passing a day is by taking one of the boat excursions on offer, many of which pass through the Marine Park around Alonissos and on to Kyra Panagia. Water sports - motor boats and some sailing boats can be hired in Panormos Bay. Snorkeling and scuba diving - the clarity of the sea makes Skopelos a perfect environment for those who enjoy snorkeling. The rockier parts of the coastline are probably most interesting with more marine life around the headland from Agnondas port. Scuba diving is available on either Skiathos or Alonissos and it is possible to go to either on a daily basis to take part in a range of courses. Scuba diving is now allowed in some areas around Skopelos.

'Day to day' shopping is done in the many small supermarkets dotted around the town and in the smaller villages with, in the main, fresh bread and meat being sold in separate shops. Prices tend to compare with the UK and, in some cases, can be slightly more expensive.
