About the property

Apartment in Duingt, Annecy, Haute Savoie, French Alps - The French Refer to this Type of Property as "Pieds Dans L'eau" Literally Meaning Feet in the Water!

This spacious two bedroom apartment, overlooks Lake Annecy. It is set in it's own private grounds with a small lawn and private access to the Lake. It has two adult bicycles, to use on the nearby cycle lane. The village of Duingt and the bakery is a five minute walk away. There are also restaurants and a cafe in Duingt. Les Libellules is also a short walk to the jetty for the boat taxi that goes around the lake in the Summer months. This is also a convenient way to travel into the town of Annecy. You can swim in Lake Annecy from the private area in front of the apartment. There are steps leading down into the lake, which is very clean and beautiful to swim in. The cycle lane has been built on an old railway line and stretches from Annecy old town down to Marlens which is some 40 kilometres. The cycle path is generally flat but can be quite busy in the Summer months. There are pedalos and motor boats nearby for hire in the Summer months.

About Ann & Peter Fitzpatrick

Ann and Peter reside in Tunbridge Wells in Kent, but where originally from Lancashire. They have two adult children and two dogs. Both work but try to spend as much time as possible in both the Savoie and Haute Savoie. The family are keen skiers.

Ann & Peter Fitzpatrick purchased this apartment in 2008

Why Ann & Peter Fitzpatrick chose Annecy - Lake Annecy area

We have spent many journeys travelling from Geneva Airport to the ski resorts beyond Albertville and used to pass the deserted Les Libellules Hotel. In 2007 we decided we would like to buy a property in Annecy and were amazed to find that we could afford to purchase this apartment. We looked at many properties but the view of the lake drew us back to this one. We enjoy this property very much, the height of the lounge ceiling gives an airey spacious feel to the place. The cycle path nearby is an added bonus.

What makes this apartment unique

The location on the lake is stunning. We believe that this is the only apartment block literally situated on the lake. The nearby cycle path is a great way to get around the area and we use the bikes to get to the local restaurants via the cycle path. It is hard to describe the clean, fresh feeling of this location. The sunny mornings with the lake flat calm is great to experience. The local bakery has a speciality bread called "Bucheron" which translates as woodcutter. It is a dark brown malty bread with nuts and is fantastic - watch though as eat this with butter and the pounds pile on !

Excellent! 4.7/5 -

Lovely apartment by the lake.

  • 5 of 5

Les Libellules is such a lovely place to stay! The view of the lake through the big picture windows is excellent and there is a large balcony. We found the apartment perfect for 4 but 6 could fit without it feeling crowded - it is spacious, well equipped and with the wifi "essential" to young adults these days. Beautiful high ceilings add a sense of history to this building, which must have been a lovely hotel in the past. Our favourite things were swimming in the gorgeous water of the lake, the cycle path and visiting Annecy. We needed to chill this Summer and didn't want to leave! I can't imagine anyone not enjoying staying here - and I can be quite fussy!

My wife, 2 daughters and I thoroughly enjoyed our time on Lake Annecy. The apartment was wonderfully well-equipped, nicely decorated and the kitchen beautifully appointed for one so small. The view of the lake at all times was something to treasure and the close proximity to the cycle path meant it wasn't always necessary to tackle the extremely busy roads alongside the lake.

I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this property to anyone wishing to explore Lake Annecy and the stunning countryside that surrounds it.

A wonderful apartment with the most spectacular view

  • 5 of 5

We had a most wonderful stay in this apartment. The view was absolutely stunning and it was easy to have a swim in the lake. The apartment is really lovely with big windows and a balcony. It felt like home from home with nice details, making it really comfortable and it is so well equipped.

We loved the proximity to the cycle paths and took advantage of the easier and really challenging cycle route in the area including col de la Forclaz which features in the Tour de France.

The apartment is close to a busy road which gives good access but it is worth knowing it is there. Rather than driving we much preferred cycling and taking the boat once we were parked up, this felt a more civilised way to get to Annecy or to go out for dinner.

We hope we can return to this wonderful place in the future. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Relaxing stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a very enjoyable and relaxing stay at the appartment, it was great just to be able to go down and swim in the lake. The appartment itself was comfortable and well furnished and Duingt was just a very short walk where there is a a bar and bakery. Plenty of restaurants just a short cycle ride away.

Great location with Stunning views

  • 5 of 5

We had never been to this part of France before and were looking for something well located to use as a base to get around, this lovely apartment gave us that. This well appointed apartment has everything you need to make your stay enjoyable. The description on the web site describes it to a tea and we were not disappointed in the least. Peter and Ann were easy to deal with, gave us loads of local information and our security deposit was refunded promptly when we got home.

There is a cycle path very close to the apartment which allows you to cycle easily all the way to Annecy in no time at all, and there are plenty of restaurants and places to stop if you want to take your time. We used the bikes provided by the owners, which were of reasonable quality so no need to rent. My husband is a very keen cyclist and even used the bikes to cycle up to the Col de la Forclaz.

The garden at the apartment although quite small, is ideal for relaxing and swimming and no need to fight for a space on the other local public "beaches". here are wonderful views of the mountains and Talloires on the opposite side of the lake, (well worth a visit).

The local town is fairly small but very beautiful with plenty of local walks up the local hills. There are only a couple of restaurants, but the bakery is absolutely fab, and only a 5 minute walk away.

The only minor draw back is the road noise which during "rush hours", (if you can call it that!), can be quite noisy. However, that said it did not spoil our stay, as you are able to switch of to it quite easily and you cannot hear it at all from inside the apartment.

All in all we had a lovely stay and we enjoyed the local area and would definitely return to this beautiful region in the future.

Chill Out

  • 4 of 5

A great place to chill out - just sitting on the balcony looking at the lake and mountains is so relaxing. All the amenities in the apartment that you could need and plenty of activities in the area should you wish to take advantage of them. The road may be busy but we live on a bust road so it was no problem.

Small print or not so small! Please note the apartment and the balcony is on the main road by the lake so there is road noise, hence the reduction in the price from other similar properties. The curved staircase within the apartment is quite steep and narrow, so may not be suitable for young children or adults who are not too sure on their feet. Please note that my mother who is arthritic and over eighty managed the stairs well. The second floor is only 6ft 3 high, so mind your head if you are tall! The bedrooms look out over the road towards the cycle path. You can also hire from the housekeeper 1 bath sheet and 1 towel for 7 euros per week. Please let us know if you require this. Outside: The balcony has metal railings, that have horizontal rails, so please note for those who have very young children. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The bed linen is changed once per week. Hand towels ONLY are included. It is the client's responsibility to leave the apartment clean, NB if this is not the case then the cost of the additional cleaning will be deducted from the security deposit
