About Michael Rollings

I enjoy a G and T, a book, or sometimes wonder at the view from the balcony. We love the buzz around the small sandy beach at the heart of the village, naturally we have our favourite tapas bar..and just soak in the unique atmosphere with a cold beer, never dull. Our daily activity often involves a swim in the small cove nearby. Access to fresh bread/croissants and the fruit/veg. market is a luxury for us. It makes it easy to take a light lunch on the balcony. The walk into town is most enjoyable as you pass along the cliffs looking out over the bay, as is discovering small shops in the warren of narrow streets in the old village. We love particularly the proximity and convenience of everything and also the beautiful tree-lined walk to San Marti passing the Ruins of Ampurias. The car goes away and usually stays away!

Michael Rollings purchased this apartment in 1980

Why Michael Rollings chose L'Escala

Bought property in best location in L'Escala in 1987. Has had a complete makeover. Easy walk (2 mins to shops and beach). Balcony faces North; in Spain an advantage as in hotter temperatures enables you to escape direct sunlight, (your option), to read, have a G and T or dine. Our children grew up here but continue to visit as caters for all ages. Now rent so we can continue to own and use ourselves. Benefit of 2 airports Girona & Barcelona (save on midweek flights) and now TGV, 6 to 7 hours, Paris to Figueras (30 mins.away). It is the perfect place for family of 4 or 2 couples. You can watch children's antics by the pool or in the sea from the comfort of the open balcony. L'Escala is a self contained fishing village with a beating heart, nowhere compares for us, we just keep coming back.

What makes this apartment unique

Special features. Cosy fishing village, speciality anchovies, has its own sandy beach (1 min.) Once boasted Worlds Best Restaurant "El Bulli",now inspiring others(e.g.Compartir Cadaques) and Can Celler de Roca in Girona. (World Famous). Nearby charming old village of San Marti with outside dining, perfect for lunch or evenings.Thomas the Tank bus runs to there past beautiful sandy coves and the spectacular Roman Greek ruins (Olympic Torch 1992). Outdoor concerts held there. Punta Romana, the apartment has lift access from basement garage to top 5th floor apartment, spectacular views of the Pyrenees and Bay of Rosas; it is built in classic 'hacienda' style, stands on a promontory. Easy to dip in or out of the bustle of activity. Apartment is an oasis of peace. Property stretches from sea to rear and allows through draught to keep you cooler.

A very nice apartment, perfectly equipped in a fantastic location. Very good value

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay. The apartment was very well equipped with all you need (including water sports equipment) and was very well located - close to great walks and the town centre but far enough way for privacy. Very pleasant walk to the beaches. Swimming pool looked good but we did not use it as too many people. Fantastic views of the bay being on the top floor. Great for sun-downers. No complaints at all about the apartment and thoroughly recommend it. Care needs to be taken with the underground parking as it is very small (we scratched our car !). Not recommended for large cars.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We travelled through France and Spain and found, in our larger car, public parking tight, I scratched my car.We do advise that if you rent a car then Golf size is ideal, otherwise it is advisable to have a second person guiding initially.Still preferable to street parking ,I hope you agree. As with everything the more you use it the more confident you get. I had a 5 metre long estate car and managed o.k.( with practice). On a more positive note ,so pleased you liked the Apartment and view.We have just left ourselves and always find it hard to leave.Hope you will be back, enquiries and bookings started already for next year. Thank you.

We had a great time in L'Escala. The apartment is well designed, has wonderful views and is very comfortable; the owners were fab. Everything we could possibly want was provided. We would definitely go back to stay in this apartment in the future. Thanks for allowing us to stay, and being so welcoming.

An excellent stay!

  • 5 of 5

This apartment was ideal for us. It is superbly located with stunning view - we ate every meal on the balcony! It is well-equipped, comfortable and has the added bonus of car-parking. The owners were very helpful at all stages of the booking and the apartment offered excellent value for money. L'Escala is an attractive and friendly town and we enjoyed shopping for food in the local stores. We spent hours at Empuries - a stunning site. We would recommend the apartment very highly.

Owner's Response: Dear Mr and Mrs Jackson, thank you for taking the time to do a review. In a competitive world we try to offer the highest standards at a competitive price.Since your visit we have added an electric awning to defend against really hot sun ,it will make it more comfortable when dining on the balcony. We hope we can welcome you back in the future.Have you thought of a few days getaway in the off peak months, when a stay in Punta Romana is very good value.Thank you again.

So relaxing

  • 5 of 5

We were delighted both with the apartment and L'Escala for our holiday.

Beautiful views, good weather and the ambience of L'Escala excellent - not too touristy. The apartment had everything you would need and was nice and clean and comfortable (including english tv and wifi if required). Facilities for cooking and a lovely balcony to sit on if you didn't want to go to the many cafes and restaurants every night - we did half and half. Swimming pool kept so clean and hardly used except by me when we visited in June. Lovely walks without having to use the car in either direction from the apartment. All in all a most relaxing holiday and I am sure we will book another year.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind review. We met through business when I told you of L'Escala. I am prone to wax lyrical about the place, but I do think it is quite unique.I am so pleased you liked it.You seemed to stay local this time, but should you return their is a wealth of places to visit . Barcelona (Gaudi architecture), Girona (home of World's Best Restaurant ,Can Celler de Roca),Figueras (remarkable Dali Museum) and then there are the mountains.Whoa, there I go again....or you can just relax with everything to hand.We hope you will come back, always most welcome.Michael and Edward.

Superb location, very comfortable property with stunning sea views.

  • 5 of 5

What a fantastic property this is. It looks good in the advert but it surpasses this in buckets. The owners think like people who go on holiday and cater for all needs. The apartment is great and has so many lovely personal touches. The town of L'Escala has a lot of character and the locals are very friendly. Wonderful views from the balcony - quite stunning. We've hundreds of photos of the azure sea with the snow- capped Pyrenees in the distance. We loved living there. There is so much to do nearby and a week is no way long enough. We will return!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. Over the years we have made constant improvements to the apartment, as we believe with its unique location and stunning views, there are not many places like it and therefore we want to attract people back to stay each year. One gets to enjoy the quiet ambience of a seafront property whilst only being a 5 minute walk away from the lively and picturesque town. We look forward to welcoming you back again in the near future. Thank you, Michael and Edward.

More' than just a balcony with a stunning sea view

  • 5 of 5

If you enjoy a sunny beach holiday in a beautiful and tranquil setting with lots of interesting places to visit then this is a great place to stay.

Michael and Edward’s 4th floor apartment has fabulous sea views and is conveniently located near the village center – perfect for picking up freshly baked croissants and bread for breakfast from the local bakery at the end of the road. The apartment worked really well for us; a family of four with two teenagers. The twin bedrooms were lovely and spacious and although we would have preferred a double bed the overall package was excellent – modern and clean with home comforts like a welcome bottle wine, wi-fi, towels, a variety of books, dvd’s and lots of info regarding things to do.

Although it was very hot when we visited we left the front patio area open which helped to keep the apartment cool.

The selection local beaches were fabulous, each with their own personality. Our favourite was the bay next to the Medieval town San Marti accessed by a beautifully landscaped pedestrian path way. We are familiar with the Languedoc region just over the French border, but this area is much more attractive overall.

Additionally Micheal and Edward are very personable in their approach and couldn’t have been more helpful to ensure that we were fully prepared and informed before hand.

We can whole heartedly recommend this holiday apartment and we look forward to visiting again.

Owner's Response: Dear Brigitte. Thank you for your positive review and in particular how to keep the Apartment cool. When we bought the Apartment the agent pointed out that in Spain the problem is getting out of the sun.The balcony faces North, this means that it is possible ( for most of the year) to be in the sun or shade, as you choose. It is also an advantage to have concertina doors to the balcony/patio to enable a through draft to the south facing rear of the Apartment. We look forward to welcoming you again and so pleased you liked the area. Incidentally we nearly bought in the Languedoc/Rousillon region, but at the time an article in the Times, "Costa Brava costa less" caught my eye.No regrets.
