Villa in Sillans-la-Cascade, Var, Provence - Alpes Cote D'Azur, France - 5 mins walk to Village, 1 hour from Gorges Du Verdon and St Tropez

This detached villa situated in Sillans-la-Cascade (Haut-Var) can act as either the centre for a quiet family holiday around the pool, or as a base from which to explore the villages of the Haut-Var and the beaches of the Cote D'Azur. The spectacular Gorges Du Verdon and Lac St-Croix lie 45 mins by car; Saint Tropez and Sainte Maxime are 1 hour away; Marseille and Nice are within 90 mins. Local amenities include daily Provencal markets, tennis, horse-riding, golf, excellent trekking trails and water-sports at the Lac St-Croix. The 4 bedrooms (3 double, 1 twin) all have en-suite facilities - the 2 ground-floor bedrooms having bathrooms, the upstairs bedrooms have shower-rooms. There is a generous lounge with dining area and open fireplace, whilst outside there is a tiled patio overlooking the pool, ideal for outdoor dining or barbeques, whilst the private pool lies at the heart of the lawned, level, enclosed garden. Satellite TV with English channels, CD/Tape deck.

About the Owner

We bought the house from a Marseiles couple in April 1998 and have spent wonderful hols there at all times of the year. We've slowly worked on the house (not ourselves, home DIY is not our speciality) to bring it to its present condition. We are both winding down from full time medical practice and one of our goals is to spend more time with our children and grandchildren(three so far) -so it's very much a second home for us as well as a lovely holiday villa.

'So much to see in the area , we visited Aix and Marseiles but liked the Gorge du Verdon and Lac St Croix best. A microwave would be useful for quick children's dinners (now provided), August 2009.

'Despite the lovely local food and drink we are now much fitter from using the pool everyday, it's still warm' - September 2009.

Great house and perfect location

We spent ten delightful days with our two married children and a 9 month baby.

We especially enjoyed the quietness (inside and outside), the full washroom with every bedroom, the space inside and outside with 2 terraces and of course the swimming pool.

The house is in a very quiet area with no traffic, but only a ten minute walk to the bakery (great bread and croissants for the morning breakfast). It is located in Provence with its markets (Aups and Lorgues were the best). The coast is not too far ( Calanques) but there is lots to see around as well (but you need a car).

It is like having your own house in Provence

Great House with lovely pool

We had a lovely holiday with scorching temperatures, so the pool is a super asset with space for 81/2 (the 1/2 a 2 year old) of us. The house is very well proportioned, so at no time did it feel crowded, with plenty of space in the living room and the two terraces wich were all well furnished and the grill was used regularly. The kitchen is large and well stocked with everything you could wish for.

The house is a home and this is apparent in a very positive way, and we felt very comfortable there - the bigger children loved having a tv and DVDs in their bedroom!

There is a really good restaurant in the village, the Hotel et Restaurant les Pins where we had a superb meal.

The cascade is absolutely worth a walk and if you take the path through the village, there is an area where you can swim.

Very nice villa in lovely area

The villa was very spacious, comfortable, clean and tidy with everything you needed (and more) and was situated in a lovely area within walking distance to the village. On arrival, the first thing that hit us was the glorious smells coming from the plants in the garden which is delightful to sit in. There are lots of nice walks around the village although it took us a couple of attempts to find the Cascade which is well worth a look at. You definitely need a car to see some of the surrounding places that are also well worth a visit. Cotignac was really nice and the medieval ruins a must to see.

Thank you to the owners for sharing their lovely holiday home with us. It was a very enjoyable holiday despite the 3 days of rain which didn't spoil it.

great holiday

we had a fantastic stay in this lovely house. Furnishings, equipment etc. were excellent. Local village had everything we needed, enjoyed fabulous day trips to Gorges de Verdon, Lac St Croix and Monaco. We also had a great day on beach at Frejus. Would definitely return.

Ideally situated between sea and mountains,not as busy as the coast but with beautiful walks,a lovely waterfall and the Gorges du Verdon and Lac de St.Croix half an hour away.

Nearest Airport : nice or marseilles at 100 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : in Sillans village at 0.5 Kilometres Nearest Golf : Roquebrun at 28 Kilometres Nearest Train : les arcs ,Var at 20 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : A8 Aix to Nice,stop brignoles or draguinan at 25 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : three in Sillans village at 0.5 Kilometres Nearest Ski : fou d'allos or Isola 2000,Nice at 100 Kilometres Nearest Beach : ste maxime or frejus plage at 45 Kilometres Car: necessary

Coast/Beach:

45 mins to St Maxime or Frejus/St Raphael - though roads busy in summer. There is a short boat transfer across the bay to St Tropez from St Maxime if you prefer. One of our favourite beaches is at Bauduen on the lac st-croix - pebbly but freshwater, clear and with opportunities for many non-motorised water sports eg pedalo, wind-surfing - this is only 35 mins away, on the routes to the Gorge du Verdon.

Travel:

Car essential - it takes us 11 hours for the 1100km from Calais - but we often fly to Toulon 75 min. Nice 80 min or Marseilles 90 min - all have regular budget flights and easy car hire facilities.

Distances:

Sillans 500m. La cascade(waterfall)1km. Larger villages with supermarche, markets, Salernes, Aups, Cotignac all 5-6km. Towns with hypermarches, hospitals - Brignoles , Draguinan both 30 min. Culture/history - Aix-en provence 60 min. Avignon/Nimes 2 hours. Wine-tasting-many vineyards and co-operatives within 30 min drive. Pre-history - museum at Quinson 40m.

Further Details:

Banks, doctors, garages Salernes 5km. Restaurants - good: Hotel des Pins in Sillans and many in Cotignac and Aups15 min. Excellent : La Table in Tour Tour (30 min) or Bruno's in Lorgues 30 min or Abbeye du celle , Brignoles 35 min.
