An indoor patio with log fire for winter visits available by special arrangement. A fantastic get away for all, plenty of activities in the local area for all the family or visit nearby towns and cities. A family holiday to remember, also something special for the romantic couples. In all, this is a dream holiday away from the mad crowds yet 5 mins to the villages of Pruna,[ Seville province] and 10 mins Olvera, [Cadiz province] approx 1 hour to the medieval cities of Ronda, Jerez, Sevilla and Malaga and much more to see, the little villages around are very beautiful. You could visit all these wonderful historic cities or just spend your holiday relaxing. We provide a welcome pack on your arrival for hot and cold refreshments including wines and a bottle of bubbly. All our visitors have loved feeding and petting our donkey Don Quijote and we have managed to rescue a friend for him and he is called Silver, you can feed him carrots or apples and they will come each morning by the gate for more!!! They both came from the Rescue centre and were badly treated in the past, but now have a safe and loving home.

THE Via Verde is a famous old railway track converted for walking, cycling and horse riding, it is a safe area as no vehicles are allowed. The Via Verde is an exceptional route, which runs parallel to the banks of many rivers, passes through spectacular places like the Rock of Zaframagón, one of the most populated vulture reserves in Europe. Bicycles and horses can be hired locally. The old station building has been converted into bar and restaurant, so you can have a coffee or full breakfast before you start your Via Verde experience.

RANCH NAVAZO was one of the largest farms in the area, we purchased in 2005 and converted the barns into holiday accommodation, has direct access from the Pruna/Algamitas road which has very little traffic, the whole area is totally fenced and has electric entrance gates. It is very safe and secure. Ranch Navazo has stunning views over the countryside and as it is facing south it gets the sun all day and wonderful sunsets in the west. We are close to the flightpath of birds migrating to and from Africa, we see lots of different species including vultures which are a protected by law.

FOR SIGHT-SEEING VISIT

JEREZ

The Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art performs a spectacular equestrian ballet accompanied by traditional Spanish music with riders dressed in 18th Century style costumes. Six choreographed "How the Horses Dance" routines using movements based upon Classic Dressage, Doma Vaquera. A dazzling show with riders and horses in perfect harmony.

A visit to the González Byass TIO PEPE winery in Jerez will transport you back in time to Jerez in the 19th century, although a fine glass of Tío Pepe sherry will soon bring you back to the present…

Harveys Bristol Cream is still the best-selling sherry in the world. The company dates from 1796, when it was founded by John Harvey in, you guessed it, Bristol. Throughout the 19th century Harvey imported sherry from Spain to UK, and distributed it around the world. Then, in the 1970s, the company decided to invest in its own bodegas in Jerez, buying traditional Jerezano wine-making premises, thereby converting itself from importer to producer. John Harvey is now owned by Allied Domecq, which also owns Pedro Domecq.

Jerez also has a famous Clock Museum { but don´t go on the hour when they are striking!!]

SEVILLE

Alcázar Sights across the entire Spanish south have been shaped by centuries of Moorish and Catholic influence, and in few places is this more evident and captivating than at the Alcázar of Seville. This palace—or a version of it, anyway—started to take shape as a fort in the 10th century under Muslim rule. Over time, many updates and additions were made (think palace halls, courtyards and gardens), especially by the Catholic monarchs, who still use it to this day, thus making it one of the oldest royal palaces of its kind in Europe.

The Cathedral of Santa Maria is the biggest in Spain and is where Christopher Columbus is buried and his tomb is always of great interest to visitors.

The Giralda tower is an ancient Arabic minaret and symbol of the city, dominating the city skyline. This magnificent structure has been used as inspiration for similar architecture in Rabat and Marrakech.

An Arabic palace from the 14th century, the Royal Alcazar was originally a Moorish fortress. Nowadays the Alcazar is residence of the Spanish kings.

RONDA

Settled by the Phoenecians around the 7th century BC, later conquered by the Muslims and finally settling under Spanish rule, Ronda has had a long and varied history marked by war, trade, and geographic wonder. Today, most visit the small town of Ronda in order to enjoy is rustic charms, photograph the dramatic landscape and taste some of the local wineries of the region.

Upon arrival in Ronda, many note the El Tajo gorge that splits the town into old and new districts, and the Punte Nuevo bridge connecting the two. A photographic delight, the gorge and the bridge create a dramatic backdrop for this small town, and a walk across is enjoyed by many who wish to visit the Islamic old town. Also in the Islamic Old Town, visitors can visit the building where three generations of the Romero family established what is modern day bullfighting and see some of the ancient (14th century) baths that are still in operation today.

ANTEQUERA

A visit to this historical Andalucían town is a journey almost 5,000 years back in time, beginning with the Bronze Age and the native Iberians. The timeline is there to be followed in this fascinating city's profusion of burial mounds, dolmens, Roman baths, a Moorish Castle, Gothic churches, Renaissance fountains and baroque bell towers.

Are you looking for a new destination for a day out? Witness wolves in an exceptional environment that leaves no doubt that animals in captivity do have a chance to live in a semi-natural habitat. A short distance from Antequera you will find the Lobo Park, where you may look at a wolf eye to eye for the first time in your life – an unforgettable emotional experience!

CORDOBA

Explore the Mezquita, Cordoba’s stunning cathedral-mosque, on a 2-hour walking tour! The grand dame of the city boasts a history that dates back to the days of AD 600, serving as both a Christian church and a mosque. Admire contrasting architecture like Mudejar, Baroque, Renaissance and Byzantine while exploring rooms such as the maksura and the Christian chapels. The tour finishes with a walk to one of Cordoba’s pretty patios to sample a glass of local Montilla-Moriles wine.

Cordoba is a captivating Andalucian city with many attractive monuments, including its Alcazar fort and gardens, mosque, cathedral, synagogue and Jewish quarter. You'll discover a beautiful network of streets, alleys, squares and whitewashed courtyards, reflecting the importance of Cordoba in the medieval period.

Séjour parfait !

Très belle location, confortable, calme, très propre avec une hôtesse aux petits soins et aussi discrète que gentille.

La piscine est divine, et nous garderons un très beau souvenir de ce séjour en Andalousie.

Wonderful - again!!!

Our 2nd stay at Villa Picasso – fantastic!

We have just returned from another wonderful visit. As before, such lovely people, John and Sonia made us so welcome; an incredible location with many interesting places to visit – the real Spain, in the heart of Andalucía. Very comfortable, with everything you need, Villa Picasso is the ideal base, whether you wish to travel around the sleepy, historic white towns or just relax and enjoy the privacy and heavenly views.

The sun shone constantly as huge Griffin Vultures soared above our private pool, with such splendid terraces; we played scrabble as the sun set over the mountain panorama; the donkeys paid us a visit from time to time for a carrot and we wandered the stunning countryside, led by a friendly local guide, introduced to us by our hosts. A highlight was once again cycling the magnificent Via Verde downward trail, accessible to all.

We’ve brought home so many amazing memories, from the startling Grazalema mountain drive, viewing the indescribable green-blue water of the Zahara reservoir, our trip on the local ‘nana’ bus to the beach and old town of Cadiz and the spectacular Flamenco Festival in Pruna.

We’ve already booked up for next year...

Villa Picasso Pruna Andalucia Spain

  • 4 of 5

Our villa 'Picasso' was one of two very quiet Villa's located in an old farm complex high in the hills just a mile or so North of the village of Pruna Andalucia Spain. The villa was run by a very charming and helpful landlady and landlord and they did all they could to make our stay a pleasant one. We found the villa very clean and it encompassed all the necessary equipment to make our stay a pleasant one. The views from the villa across the valley's and mountains of Andalucia are lovely and the villa grounds large and accommodating. The location is very quiet and quite isolated for families who have children and who might need local entertainment and things to do. However, that said the location is ideal for those that wish a quiet and undisturbed holiday. The pool was large and looked inviting but we did find it pretty cold even in the heat of the midday sun. Whilst there we took a number of days out to visit the lovely cities of Seville (a must), Rhonda, Gibraltar, Estopona (on the coast through the mountains), Sentenile (the cave village - awesome), Zahara (beautiful) and not forgetting Olvera (the local town) where we did our shopping and cafe's. The main cities named are a good hour or an hour and a half drive away but worth the effort.

This is definitely a pleasant holiday for those that wish total peace, a chance to unwind and read, relax and great for those who wish to study nature. It is not and ideal location for those with young children who are looking for entertaining water parks and other types of children's thrills.

Thanks for making us welcome.

Villa Picasso, Pruna - Fantastic!

  • 5 of 5

A brilliant location, as described: set on the outskirts of a typical white Spanish rural town, with 360-stunning views, amid mountain slopes and olive groves - a perfect getaway! The villa is spacious and decorated to the highest standards - everything is well-thought out and tasteful. The overall facilities are excellent, with private pool and gas BBQ ensuring delightful, relaxing evenings - everything is clean and well-maintained. A lovely couple, Sonia and John pull out all of the stops to make sure everything is pristine; though not intrusive, they are available anytime to provide the best possible service.

We would definitely recommend Villa Picasso as a superb base to discover this Andalusian region and way of life.

A car is a must, as there is so much to see ... We managed to take in the beautiful cities of Cadiz, Seville, and Ronda, and numerous sleepy white towns and villages in stunning locations - this is the 'real' Spain! As an added bonus, the area is blessed with a national park and remarkable wildlife; we encountered countless Griffin Vultures and various eagles, even circling and swooping low over the villa on occasions, to our astonishment.

The local small town, Pruna, is 2K down the valley and there are numerous bars and places to eat tapas with the locals; a medium-sized, well-stocked supermarket is available, with a superb butcher. However, a larger historic town, Olvera, with a bigger supermarket, is a short drive away, with countless bars and restaurants offering Spanish cuisine to suite all tastes. Furthermore, we seized the chance to experience the incredible Via Verde de la Sierra cycle network, a 36k cycle-ride through the mountains, hiring bikes at the Olvera starting point - a must for families, and one of the highlights of our trip!

This is indeed a great place to holiday. We'll be back!

Ranch Navazo was one of the largest farms in the area. The farm house/buildings and surrounding land were purchased in 2005 and converted for holiday rentals, there are now various animals, two rescue donkeys and some sheep as grass cutters, dogs and doves etc. It is fully realised that not everyone likes animals so they are kept in a separate area away from the visitors: A licence for a petting farm has been applied for, for visitors who like to be involved, but this licence may take sometime! Many children have enjoyed feeding the sheep and donkeys, saving their veg and fruit peeling for them.

The indoor patio is available by special arrangement
