Alvor Quiet Location within walking distance of beach and Centre of Alvor

(Please note our apartment should not be confused with “Mar Alvor” apartments in the centre of Alvor)

Ideally and centrally located in the Maralvor development within easy walking distance approx 10 mins of Alvor town centre, the beach and restaurants, sports centre and picturesque harbour. The apartment is situated within a

small development, with lifts (2 for the apartment's section) swimming pool (separate children's section -60cm deep)

Air-conditioning in lounge and bedroom. It sleeps 4/5, is most spacious and comfortable and fully equipped. A large roof terrace area offers panoramic views of the surrounding area and may be used for sunbathing if desired. Car hire, although desirable is not essential and direct transport either by private operator or taxi at reasonable cost is readily available from Faro Airport (approx 50 mins mostly by motorway). Alvor is an ideal base for the perfect holiday, whether lazing in the sun either at the pool or on the beach or engaging in many of the local sports and activities.

About Ian/Eleanor Tweedie

We are a retired couple from Inverness Scotland.

We are in our 60s and have one son, one grandson and three granddaughters.

We have many friends in the area and love the Portuguese people-and dining out!

Alvor is one of the most enjoyable locations we have found in all our travels throughout the world Our aim is to try and ensure that the flat enables our guests to enjoy their Alvor experience to the full with it being as well equipped as we can reasonable manage.

Why Ian/Eleanor Tweedie chose Alvor

We have been visiting the Algarve for 25 years and moved to our present apartment in 2009. We previously had an apartment a little inland but decided that we preferred to be nearer the village of Alvor with all its amenites.

What makes this apartment unique

We enjoy walking on the board walk round the estuary and the fact that although the apartment is a little out of the village we can walk into the village or to the beach in 10 minutes.

We also enjoy a game of golf at a number of golf courses which are all within 30 minutes drive of the apartment.

Sea fishing is available from the harbour at Alvor

We enjoy eating out many restaurants especially those with Portuguese menus

Notes on accommodation: The apartment is large (90 m2 - almost twice the size of some 1 bedroom apartments) and unusually enjoys two bathrooms, one of which is en-suite to the double bedroom. The apartment has been renovated and decorated and is fitted out to a high standard. Outside: Shared swimming pool with separate children's section (60cm deep) equipped with sun loungers and sun shades; adjacent to the cafe/snack bar (both the pool and the cafe/bar are open during most of the year). The apartment balcony is a good size.There is a small BBQ in the cupboard on the balcony and two sunloungers which guests are welcome to use on the roof terrace if they so desire. Dining out locally is a definite must and offers both superb variety and value. Eg. Visit the local Bouganvilla restaurant and cook their delicious ‘steak on a stone’ to your own specification! Sample Portuguese sardines in season as you watch the sun setting over the harbour and you will enjoy an unforgettable treat! Utility Room: Washing machine in the balcony outside kitchen door, space for drying clothes on dryer. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The flat is cleaned prior to the arrival of guests. There is change of towels and linen where stay is 10 days or more. If additional requirements are necessary please contact our agent during your stay. Other: Part of the balcony outside bedroom is enclosed and can be used either as an area for relaxing (with 2 occasional chairs and a coffee table)or for older child not requiring supervision using the foldaway single bed available. Lockable door to balcony.

Excellent Apartment

We have stayed in lots of apartments some better than others but this one is indeed better than suggested by the photos and description.

It was clean, comfortable and airey.

Lovely quiet location but everything you need it even has a lovely quiet sports bar about 400m away what more could you want ?

Would recomend without hesitation.

Well worth the visit

We arrived at the apartment and were greeted by a lovely lady who showed us round we were a few hours early for check in but having spoken to Eleanor beforehand this wasn’t a problem for which we were very grateful. The apartment is very spacious yet homely it had everything you need plus more we were very impressed.it was also very clean and had plenty of towels. Eleanor and Ian have thought of everything even down to books that you might like to read while chilling out. The apartment is looking lovely and cool we didn’t need to use the air conditioning at all although I would imagine it would come in very handy in high season. There is a large balcony which is perfect for eating breakfast on of a morning as it catches the early morning sun however it’s also pleasant to sit out on in the evening with a nice glass of wine as the temperatures drops quite a bit. The bed is big and extremely comfortable should you need any extra pillows or blankets there’s plenty stored in the cupboard by the entrance. We spent a few afternoons by the pool there are plenty of sun loungers available ito lie on, the bar wasn’t open which didn’t bother us but I did hear a couple of people complaining!!! The apartment is a good 15 minutes walk from the town centre which was fine we enjoyed walking in as we felt we got some exercise every day, the beach is about 15 minutes walk the other way and is well worth a trip there are plenty of places to hire sunloungers and a good mixture of bars and cafes on the beach. I fell a little in love with Alvor so much to do perfect weather lovely friendly locals best holiday I’ve had in a long time and the perfect apartment to stay in. Thank you Eleanor and Ian for letting us rent you’re apartment we hope to come again next year.

Great apartment everything you need

We have rented this apartment for the last 3 years. Ideal location 10 min walk from beach 10 min walk from town centre. This apartment has recently been redecorated it's lovely bright and welcoming. Extremely clean and well equipped very spacious and comfortable.The pool is a good size too. Thank you to Eleanor and Ian easy to book with and organised when you arrive in Portugal no stress. We had another fantastic holiday.

Thankyou for a great stay at your apartment. It was a real home from home. Two agents met us on arrival and were more than helpful during our stay, even letting us stay on last day before a late flight. Apartment is spotless, spacious , 3 bathrooms are great! Comfy double bed, large balcony, great kitchen and pool.

No snack bar opened this year but lots of info in visitors book about nearests shops etc 10/15 min walk to beach and town. 4 euro in taxi

Special interest holidays:

Only 20 minute drive to the new F1 circuit, hosting the Superbikes and other racing competitions. Also available are cycling; surfing; windsurfing, dune buggy racing; sea-angling; horse riding, dolphin spotting; sea cruises, sand sculptures exhibition, Slide and Splash; trekking and walking; visit the scenic unspoiled Monchique mountain area and the majestic Silves Castle, both within easy travelling distance of Alvor. The weekly ‘Resident’ magazine and Portugal News newspaper (free in some supermarkets and at the airport) provide valuable information regarding special events, exhibitions and local markets as well as local news.


Alvor (with its wonderful restaurants, bars and tourist shops), the beach and its picturesque harbour and promenade (with its cafes) are only 10 minutes walk from the apartment. Praia do Vau and Praia da Rocha with their spectacular beaches are also within approx 30 mins walking distance. Alvor has its own large public swimming pool and sports centre near the harbour.


Faro airport to Alvor is about 50km / 50 mins drive and is mostly motorway. Airport transfers can be arranged. There is a local bus service to Portimao. There is also a train service from Faro to Portimao. Taxis are readily available. Car hire, although desirable is not essential
