About the property

French Alps - Minutes Away From the Portes du Soleil

Le Solaise is the uppermost chalet in a clutch of old and newer dwellings and farmhouses that comprise the hamlet of Richebourg. It lies 1km North West of the village of Le Biot. Richebourg sits at a height of 780m above sea level on the South Western facing slope of the Dranse Valley. In the Spring and Summer, the Dranse takes glacier and melt water from the surrounding alps to Lake Geneva (Lac Leman). To the North West, views from the chalet take in Mont Billiat (1894m) and its rugged ridge line with the village and church of La Baume in the middle distance. Panning south, the ever-changing landscape of the farmland and villages on the opposite side of the valley come into view with the Pointe du Clocher to the South East. The chalet sits on the edge of the alpine meadow. The local farmer grazes his cattle in the field at the back of the chalet in June and October before and after he takes them up to their summer pasture (alpage), near the Col du Corbier.

Séjour en famille

  • 5 of 5

A refaire!

Belles vacances au calme avec une vue magnifique sur les montagnes

  • 5 of 5

Activity and Interests

Car: recommended

A car is essential. Geneva Airport (35 miles) is a little over an hour away. Calais is 540 miles.

Le Biot (bakery, ski hire, cafe, essential provisions) is a 10-minute walk. Saint Jean D'Aulps (bank, bakeries, pharmacy, restaurants, sports shop, ski hire, tourism office) is a 5-minute drive. Morzine (Every normal amenity including medical)is a 15-minute drive. Les Gets (every normal amenity including medical) is a 20-minute drive.

Further Details:

Walking and hiking: there are numerous paths and circular walks from the chalet itself. The chalet is also a great base to explore higher mountain routes, perhaps with an overnight stay in one of the mountain huts that dot the Dents du Midi and Dents Blanches ranges. Morzine is a well renowned mountain biking centre offering riders of all abilities the chance to explore the mountains on two wheels. Steep, banked tracks draw the serious down hillers that hurtle down the sides of the mountains at impossible speeds. The more gentle routes down are a real joy and allow a more sedate return to the chair lift station. For water sports enthusiasts, there are extensive opportunities for white water rafting, canyoning, canoeing and other means for negotiating the rapids of the Dranse river.

Les Gets has a very pleasant mountain lake that is ideal for a cool, evening dip after day's walking or mountain biking. Above the swimming lake in Les Gets, there is a 'go ape' high altitude adventure playground (for adults too). Morzine has a Luge as well as a number of other ingenious methods for sliding down the mountain. There's also quad biking, parapenting, fishing, zip-wiring and a whole host of alternative attractions to punctuate the constant gazing at the wonderful mountains in the Summer.
