About Rod & Jan

Rod and Jan retired early to Spain in 2001. They have a good life here in the sun.

Rod used to be a press photographer and Jan worked as a secretary and also for a charitable organisation. Previously she owned catering establishments in Spain.

We have 5 children and 6 grandchildren.

Enjoy days out by the sea and taking our dogs for long walks in the countryside of which there is plenty of here in Albox, visiting the many restaurants in the area and enjoying their very reasonable "Menu del Dias".

Why Rod & Jan chose Albox

We originally had a holiday apartment near Torrevieja on the Costa Blanca which we had for 10 years.

When we took early retirement early in 2001 we moved there as it was convenient.

We then looked at other areas as that one was getting very busy. Friends told us of this area of Almeria so we took a few days out and looked around Almeria province. We immediately loved it. The countryside and mountain views are stunning. You sit in the winter in 20C sunshine and look at the snow on top of the mountains, breathtaking. Weather here was a main reason for moving and also the cost of living is more reasonable than the UK.

What makes this apartment unique

The apartment is in a lovely secluded place but close to town.

The private part of the garden has 1500 square metres of trees, shrubs etc. to enjoy. The kitchen door leads out directly onto the terrace and gazebo and then into the pool area.

Visitors, many from France as well as England, have told us it is like paradise.

There is another gazebo in the garden, directly by the pool as you get out from your relaxing swim.

There is also English and Spanish television for your enjoyment.

It is only 2 kilometres from the town of Albox which has many restaurants and bars. Three very good supermarkets including Lidyl and four English style supermarkets where you can get your favourite goods.

Excellent and good value place to stay

Everything has been really well thought through, from the easy -to -follow instructions to the could- be not-so- easy-to -find -destination to a packet of plasters in the kitchen! In December we were not expecting to swim, but the pool must be lovely at the right season, the garden is large, the parking is shaded and there is a wonderful view from the front. The apartment is just right for two and has everything needed for cooking and a large TV for entertainment. In cold weather it is worth saving a stash of 2 euro pieces for the electricity meter before you come, because they are difficult to get hold of as change! There is an electric radiator in bedroom and sitting room so we were cosy. The apartment is only a few minutes drive from Albox, where it is easy to buy anything, but the country around is very beautiful and good for walking, or it is about 40 mins to the beach. There is a very amiable dog who greets you on arrival and is happy to wander along for a walk if invited, and the hosts are pleasant on arrival and departure - though the apartment is part of their villa it feels completely self contained, though I am sure they would help at once if there was any problem..

Just what we wanted

We were house hunting around Albox, this was perfect for us.

Perfect to use as a base for exploring the area, 45 minutes to the beach. Rod & Jan were very helpfull, a great welcome from the dog every time we drove in.

Fabulous away from it all apartment, just perfect.

My husband and i just returned from a 2 week stay at this property. We had a wonderful holiday and the apartment was ideal. Stunning views, fantastic outside area all to ourselves. Very clean and had everything we needed. Nice touches with tv and satellite and fly free eating space. Wifi was excellent as was the air conditioning. Photos don't do this place justice. Rod and Jan were really helpful but never invaded our space often forgot they where next door. If you are looking for a place that's quiet and relaxing but with easy reach to lively places by car then look no further. Excellent value for money only downside was we couldn't stay forever! Definitely recommend and will return one day!

Cosy little villa

Great location to visit Albox and the surrounding areas. Rodney and Janet are great hosts there are very friendly and we couldn't have wish for more. Easy to follow direction. Would recommend to anyone looking for all little bit of peace and quiet.

peace and tranquility

My wife and I have just returned after spending a week here and despite my wife being taken ill, we had a lovely time. 'La Casita' had everything we needed and the garden and pool area, of which we had sole use, was great. It's only a short 2-3 min drive from the town of Albox which has just about all you need. The coastal resorts of Mojacar and Garrucha are an easy 40 min drive and are very traditional and quiet with some great Spanish restaurants.

The area around the Villa is very quiet with a few other villas dotted around but spread out.

It was very easy getting there from Almeria airport and if you follow Rods' written directions to the villa you will not get lost.

Jan & Rod are wonderful people and leave you entirely alone, but if you need them, just knock the door. We did this at 7.00am one morning, as my wife was ill and I wanted to know where the medical centre was, they insisted on taking us there and ended up spending all day with us at the Hospital. I think that says it all.

We would love to go back to Almeria and would stay here.

Peaceful,Lovely Owners.

Total peace and quiet.beautiful surroundings.Rod and Jan are Lovely owners always discrete but there if you need them.Very nice accommodation with u.k.television and excellent WiFi connection.This is Great base to explore with Mountains and Beaches in easy reach on quiet roads. The Town and supermarkets are only a short drive away. Recommend the Rambla cafe for Breakfast less than 10 euros for 2 people including drinks. Hope to return again.

Lovely sandy beaches and Aqua Park at Vera Playa. Mojacar with it´s sandy beaches and old town set on a hill overlooking the sea both just 30 minutes drive. Plenty of entertainment and outdoor restaurants in several sea side towns and villages along the whole coastline. Drive along the coastal road with it´s little inlets and beaches for a private swim and relaxation.


Almeria airport is 1 hour, Alicante and Murcia airports 1 hour and ¾ drive. Essential to have own vehicle.


Albox 1 mile. Nearest bar/restaurant 1 mile. Ten Pin Bowling centre with games and restaurant 2 miles. Mojacar 35 miles. Vera Playa 32 miles. Mini Hollywood western town 35 miles. Cabo de Gata Natural Park and Baza Natural Park and lakes 50 miles. Beaches 30 minutes.

Further Details:

Several bars and restaurants of all types, Spanish, English, Chinese, Italian etc. in the locality of Albox with it’s quaint narrow streets. Lovely town square with fountains, garden and church. Very nice floodlit tennis courts only 2 miles away. Choice of 8 or 9 supermarkets including 4 English ones. Plenty of banks in the town centre and areas around. Mini Hollywood is a great day out for all the family. It has a western town where Spaghetti westerns were made. There are several shows a day of gun fights etc. It also has a zoo. Almeria City with it´s ancient fortress is second most tourist site visited in Andalucia. Granada and it´s beautiful Aljambra Palaces and gardens are just 2 hours drive. Vera Aqua park 30 minutes drive. New 12 lane ten pin bowling alley with cafe and other amusements only 10 minutes away. Albox now has a state of the art indoor swimming pool and gymnasium for those on winter holidays.

Local theatre shows new release films in English on a Monday evening.
