Villa in Gennadi, Rhodes, Greek Islands - Luxury Villa, Exclusive Location Air-Conditioning, sleeps 6

This beautiful villa is perfect for small family groups seeking a quiet relaxing holiday, without being too far from shops, bars, tavernas and the beach. It has a commanding view over Gennadi Bay and a Westerly aspect, which means it gets sunshine all day from sunrise to sunset. There is a private upstairs sun terrace, which is not overlooked, if you want an all over tan! The solar heated pool can be used comfortably all season long. Air-conditioning in every room keeps the rooms cool at night. The villa is on a large 1000sq.m private site and has extensive out door living space with a large pergola. On the ground floor patio doors open out on to the pergola, which itself opens on to the swimming pool with its sun loungers. Downstairs there is a well equipped kitchen, dining room, shower room and living room. A high speed internet connection is available at the front of the villa. Satellite TV, DVD, PlayStation 2 and stereo. Upstairs are the bedrooms and main bathroom with patio doors opening on to the large upstairs sun terrace.

About Susan Salam

We live in Newcastle with our two kids and two cats. Our first ever holiday together in the 80's took us to Rhodes and we have loved it ever since. Now we are delighted to have our own fabulous villa there. The pressures of work and school holidays mean we only get there twice a year, but, while we are there we always take in an overnight in one of Rhodes old town's charming back street hotels.

Susan Salam purchased this villa in 2008

Why Susan Salam chose Gennadi

We bought the villa because it is the best location for miles around. It sits up on the hill side with a fine view of the bay that is uninterrupted and has sunshine on the pool all day. It enjoys a lovely climate, even into late October, when the sea is still warm for swimming. Gennadi is a friendly, traditional Greek village and the area is not over developed, so you won't be rubbing shoulders with too many tourists. The beach is vast and largely empty, but has good facilities and at various spots such as Kiotari and Gennadi itself. The beach tavernas all serve excellent grilled food and cheap beer.

What makes this villa unique

I like to get up in the morning and have coffee by the pool while watching the sun rise over the bay. In the evening there is a lovely "golden hour" when the sun sets behind the hills, and at night there is a stunning view of the heavens and the milky way - I have never seen so many stars! Being half a kilometre from the main road, it is very quiet, and you will only be interrupted by the local goats wandering past. It is a lovely place for a family to relax and get away from it all, but there's plenty of facilities in the village and close by if you need anything. If you like water sports, Gennadi is probably the best place to stay to access Prassonissi beach.

Notes on accommodation: Being just outside the village, the site is serene and quiet, situated well off the main road. The hillside location means there is usually a pleasant breeze most times of the year. It is best to rent a car, since the villa is around a mile from the village centre and the beach, although it can be walked in about 20-25 minutes. Being a large gated site and having a surrounding wall, the site is very suitable for children. But we would advise caution that small children and non-swimmers should be carefully supervised around the pool. Outside: The site is very large - approx 1000 sq.m and is not overlooked by any development other than its three immediate neighbours. Externally a wooden table and six padded chairs sit under the pergola and by the pool four sun loungers, two padded deck chairs and a parasol are provided. The private solar heated pool is 4 x 8m and is 1.4 m deep, being situated on a large tiled patio area in front of the villa. A barbecue stands on the edge of the pergola, for outdoor dining. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen and towels are included and are changed weekly. The property is cleaned weekly and a welcome pack can be provided on request. Other: There is an extensive pergola area around the villa and pool, with parasol, 4 loungers, 2 deckchairs, dining table and 6 armchairs. The upstairs sun lounge is equipped with chairs.

My wife and I travel abroad about three times a year. The reason I mention this is to provide some context as our stay at villa Artemis was one of our most enjoyable holidays. My wife had a special birthday and we couldn't have chosen a better setting to mark it. The villa is a bit secluded about one mile from a lovely little traditional Greek village called Gennadi and the views were specatacular. The village had everything we needed in terms of supplies to stock the villa and a few bars/restaurants for lunch/evening meals. There were also a couple of travernas at the beach which again is about one mile from the villa. It was lovely to sit here at lunch time just looking at the views. As my wife wasn't driving she enjoyed the local wine and Rhodes made Rhosecco. To be honest the villa was quite secluded and we really enjoyed the peace and tranquility this provided so consequently we made the most of it and spent a good deal of time there, including cooking most evening meals which were easily prepared in the kitchen. We did hire a car and covered most of the island and the main sightseeing attractions. We fell in love with Rhodes and truly had a memorable holiday. However the highlight for us was enjoying the facilities at the villa and chilling out by the pool. While my wife loved being able to sunbathe, I enjoyed my cold beer just looking at all the wonderful views and in the shade of the veranda area. In terms of equipment, again we were well catered for. As it was just the two of us we had the villa to ourselves and it felt like a spoiling. There are four villas in this immediate area, two semi-detached buildings with roughly the same layout but we were very happy we chose this one. None of the other villas were occupied while we were there, but because of the hedging and the position of each villa I can't imagine your privacy being invaded if all were occupied. Susan the owner responded to any enquires promptly. Both Alan and Judith who manage the villa locally were also really helpful and were especially kind to my wife because of her birthday. That was very much appreciated. All in all we had a wonderful holiday at Villa Artemis.

Just had a week here, and it was fabulous. The Villa is in a perfect position, a little way up nice views, the most perfect pool imaginable, and a well-designed Villa of course. The owner Susan was always very helpful both before and during the stay. Would absolutely recommend this lovely place to anyone.

Artemis Villa

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay. Its a quiet spot with a good view over the sea.

Accommodation was good, with pretty much everything catered for. A car is needed to get around and there are plenty of restaurants within 10 minutes. Could do with a book so guests can write their own comments on places to go and eat.

Wi-Fi was a bit hit and miss, but building work was going on in the area so whether this was the problem who knows.

Otherwise all good.

Owner's Response: Thanks Bob. A guest book is a good idea and something we will consider. I'm sorry about the wifi. I'm not sure what the problem was but it should be ok now. They are building a new hotel at the seafront and whether that contributed to the problem I don't know but just to say that the villa is not affected by any building noise. Susan

We have just come back from a wonderful stay at Villa Gennadi. It is most def worth the money,a lovely spacious villa with an amazing view from the patio and pool. The pool was lovely and refreshing for a cool down, even though it is slightly heated as this meant you could enjoy it well into the evening! The villa is best situated of all four of them as you got the sun from very early in the morning right through till it set behind the mountains at night. We enjoyed some fantastic sky's at night,Milky way with lots of shooting stars! It's worth a visit to the Waterpark at Faliraki if you have children/teenagers etc . Plenty of places to eat out,we were spoilt for choice ...from Mourella at Kiotari to local tavernas up in the hills but one of our favourites due to the lovely staff was Capi di Pizza on the main road near Kiotari. We had a wonderful stay and would def recommend it to others. The only negative was having a 14 year old the wifi connection was poor ...but this was most def not a prob for us!!

The blue flag beach at Gennadi has several km of open, crowd free shingle and pebbles as well as warm water. It is two minutes drive from the villa. There are several good tavernas and sun loungers are available. 20 minutes drive away is the water sports paradise of Prassonissi Beach, which is popular with wind and kite surfers. 4km away at Kiotari there are lovely sandy beaches with glass bottomed boat rides and other beach facilities including some great chill out bars.

Rhodes, Diagoras Airport is the island's airport and is about 60Km away, roughly an hour's drive. It is possible to hire a taxi at the airport to get to Gennadi and this costs around 70 euros. Buses are also available. But we would recommend hiring a car to allow flexibility in getting around to see the local attractions.

Gennadi village is about two minutes by car, or about 20-25 minutes walk. Beautiful Lindos with its acropolis and medieval castle is 25km and Rhodes old town world heritage site is about 65km. Nearby are the traditional villages of Vati, Lahania, Lardos and Pefkos.

Further Details:

About 20 minutes drive away is the renowned water sports beach of Prassonissi, which has excellent wind surfing and kite surfing due to the prevailing breezes. In Gennadi itself there are numerous bars, tavernas, shops, a cash point, pharmacy, bus stop and internet cafes, in fact pretty much everything you need is here. The local bakery provides fresh bread and delicious cakes daily, while the green grocer sells wonderful fresh salad, fruit and vegetables. There is also an excellent small supermarket and a quaint village church, St. John Theologos. On the beach there are several tavernas offering a good selection of local and international dishes, or you can just pop in for a quick coffee or a beer. The village itself has several good eateries including Big Mamas kitchen, which is very friendly and serves excellent food. Further afield on the West coast, the castle at Monolithos is perched on a rock over some steep cliffs, is atmospheric and well worth a visit. The drive up the Western coast is lovely and you can also visit the ruined castle at Kastello near Kritinia. And no visit to Rhodes would be complete without a visit to Rhodes old town. The cobbled medieval streets contain many artisan shops, cafes, mosques, minarets, museums and tavernas hidden in its maze of back streets, just behind the main tourist strip.
