About the property

Available individually or bookable together. Set in the grounds of a large domaine of 3.2 hectares (7.5 acres) with a small lake and the ruins of an old chapel, the gites provide quality appointed accommodation for a totally relaxing break. The pool, spa and terrace area with its gazebo and sun loungers offers the perfect place to relax in the sun or shade and enjoy a dip. The location is very peaceful, being in the heart of the countryside with the nearest village shops within an 8 minute drive. This is a beautiful region of France where vineyards and sunflowers abound. The area is wonderful for visiting the Cathar castles, the fairytale ancient cité of old Carcassonne and the "rose" city of Toulouse. We are just over an hour away from the Mediterranean and 2 hours from the Spanish border. Carcassonne airport can be reached within 30 minutes and Toulouse airport is one hour away.

About Simon & Maria Jenkins

Maria and Simon both took early retirement from teaching, Maria as a French teacher and Simon as Deputy Head, both from a large secondary sports college in Kent.

Maria first fell in love with the French culture and way of life while studying at the Sorbonne in Paris many years ago. Simon started to share her love of the country when they bought a holiday home in the Tarn which they owned for 6 years.

The dream of living and integrating into the local community is now a reality for them.

Simon & Maria Jenkins purchased this apartment in 2008

Why Simon & Maria Jenkins chose La Courtète

After an extensive period of research Maria and Simon chose the Aude due to its climate, history and culture, wonderful scenery and picturesque towns and villages.

Les Pics Blancs is close to the large city of Toulouse, the historic town of Carcassonne and is only an hour away from the Mediterranean beaches, skiing in the Pyrenees and 2 hours from the Spanish border.

Their house and gites are set in a beautifully quiet country location away from all of the crowds with views of the Pyrenees and yet within easy access of all amenities.

What makes this apartment unique

Les Pics Blancs benefits from its country location and the peace and tranquillity it offers whilst being close to a wealth and variety of every conceivable requirement one could ask for.

If sport is your interest, golf, skiing, tennis, football, rugby etc are all close. Culture and the arts thrive in many of the local communities as well as in the larger centres of Toulouse and Carcassonne. The countryside is beautiful and spectacular, with its mountains, gorges, caves, canals and rivers offering ramblers, painters, naturalists, cyclists and many others a dream environment in which to explore. For historians the history of the Cathars is enshrined in the area with lots of interesting sights to visit.

Quite simply it is an ideal location for a holiday for everyone.

Petit Pic (2 Bedrooms, Sleeps 4)
average rating of 5.0 based on 3 reviews

The Petit Pic is a lovely property with pool.

  • 5 of 5

We both thoroughly enjoyed our week in the Petit Pic, The property is spacious extremely well equipped with a large kitchen with lots of pots, pans glassware etc, everything is well maintained and of a very high quality. The wifi and TV with all UK channels were excellent. The owners had thoughtfully provided us with many useful extras such as washing up liquid, cleaning materials, soap powder, dish washer tablets, barbecue charcoal, lighter fuel and wine on our arrival. The pool was lovely, clean and carefully maintained by the owner, the poolside loungers were of a high quality and there were lots of cushions and pool towels provided, a lovely spot to relax, read and enjoy the tranquility of a lovely setting. The surrounding gardens are extensive, attractive and well maintained. The Gite is set in beautiful countryside, very peaceful and ideal for walkers. We felt that the rear was a bit drab, the outside wall was bare cement and needed to be painted white like the rest of the building. The front area was enclosed by a high nylon screen and wooden door which prevented a view of the garden and blocked the evening sun when dining outside.

Owner's Response: The painting of the rear of the gite was an outstanding job due to prior poor weather and was completed shortly after theses guests had left and other guests have appreciated the privacy of the front terrace and choose to use the rear terrace in the evening for dining. It is of course all a matter of taste, but we are pleased that the quality of accommodation and equipment, cleanliness, maintenance and extra little touches that we offer have all been appreciated. After all they did give us a 5 star rating which speaks for itself.

Wonderful in every way

  • 5 of 5

Without doubt, having had holidays in France for the past ten years, these are the best gites in which have stayed in every way. First and foremost, the hosts SImon and Maria are so friendly and welcoming, always available to assist but not in an intrusive way and have a wealth of information about the local area. Both gites have excellent furnishings and are extremely well equipped. The extensive grounds include a beautiful pool area with loungers and pool toys as well as a room for table tennis and darts. Walks in the grounds are also stunning with wild life in abundance. Although located in a beautiful rural setting, it is possible to travel to nearby Carcassone in just over half an hour and a trip to the Mediterranean coast takes just over an hour. There are many local villages which offer excellent restaurants and some wonderful French markets.

All in all we would recommend these gites without any reservation.

We hope that you enjoy as much as we have and we look forward to doing so next year!

Really fantastic gite

  • 5 of 5

I spent a wonderful week in Petit Pic which is the best equipped and well planned gite I have ever stayed in. It has everything you could possibly need as well as being set in large and very beautiful gardens. The pool is a good size and was well equipped with everything you could need. Many thanks to the owners for their kindness which helped make the holiday so special.
