Situated on the edge of an unspoiled hamlet 5 minutes from Sorges, the 'truffle capital of the Périgord', La Treille is a 19th century farmhouse, entirely renovated, with a private swimming pool and all modern conveniences, offering guests comfort, privacy, tranquillity and the cultural and gastronomic riches of one of France's most delightful provinces. Tastefully furnished with country furniture, La Treille sleeps 2 to 6. Located in north-east Dordogne, La Treille looks out onto 12 acres of walnut groves and is surrounded by 800 acres of woods offering guests a choice of delightful signposted walks and cycling for children and adults. Nearby sights include the Chateaux of Hautefort, Puyguilhem and Bourdeilles; the medieval towns of Périgueux, Brantôme and Excideuil are close by. The area offers caves, canoeing, tennis, golf, horseriding and children's activities (adventure parks, cycling on rail tracks). Excellent restaurants and open air markets within a short drive.

Great Family Holiday

Beautiful villa, in a delightful setting!

We had a fantastic family holiday, and was able to mix day trips visiting local attractions (there are many) with lazy days around the pool. The location is very remote/rural and private, a great place to get away from it all and relax. The children loved looking out for the foxes that came out in the evening in the fields opposite.

Irana and Michael live 'next door' but you don't actually see them, unless you go and knock their door. The guys were really friendly and helpful, otherwise they leave you to enjoy your holiday. The villa is modern inside and very comfortable. Could do with a larger TV, but meant we didn't watch it much, which was a good thing. I would have given a five star rating if there was a local baker or café within walking distance. A car is essential every time you leave the villa, unless you are enjoying the country walking routes which you can pick-up right outside the villa. I would be very happy to recommend this property and Irana & Michael.

A lovely house in a beautiful setting

We have had several holidays here and we keep returning. The house is lovely with everything you could need and an attractive pool area.

Its the setting that captivates us, the house looks out onto walnut groves and woods and its a real pleasure to sit with a glass of wine and watch the sun go down watching the swallows and waiting for the deer to appear from the woods.

There's lots of wildlife round about and if you're interested in birds there's a huge variety.

I would recommended it to anyone.

Rural retreat

La Treille is a lovely cottage complete with everything you need for a comfortable break. Although the details showed that towels and wifi were not provided we were delighted to find that actually they were!

The location is quiet and very rural but within easy reach of beautiful towns like Brantome and Sarlat.

Irina and Michael were close by but not at all intrusive.

I would happily recommend this property to other holidaymakers.

Coast/Beach:

Swimming and canoeing are available on the Dronne (1/2hr) and Brantome (30 mins), Vézère and Dordogne (1hr) rivers. The nearest sea beach is 2hrs drive by motorway to Bordeaux and Arcachon.

Travel:

The nearest international aiports are Bordeaux (2hrs) BA, Limoges (1hr), Bergerac (1.15hrs) both on Ryanair, Flybe, Toulouse (3.3hrs). Brive airport (1.15hrs) Driving distance from Calais is around 8 hours. Use of car is essential.

Distances:

The village is 1.5 kms and has a 1 butcher, a café/restaurant, a small supermarket. Main grocery shopping is 15kms. Markets are weekly in Sorges 5 mins (Sun), Sarliac (Tue), Thiviers 15 mins (Sat), Excideuil 20mins (Thur) Périgueux 20 mins (Wed & Sat). Tennis court in the village. Canoeing in Brantôme 25kms, on the Dordogne 45mins and La Vézère 40 mins.

Further Details:

Wide range of shopping and banks etc available in Périgueux and shopping centres within 20 mins drive. Good restaurants in Sorges, Brantôme, Excideuil, Périgueux. Excellent restaurant in Thiviers.

  • Notes on accommodation: For winter stays the house is fully insulated and centrally-heated. All the bedrooms and the bathroom are upstairs so it is not suitable for handicapped or elderly people. There is however an extra bed in the living-room area. Dogs are welcome but not allowed upstairs and must be fully vaccinated. There is an additional fee of 20 euros per dog and per week. The garden is not fenced. Outside: The pool for the sole use of the guests has easy access with large steps. It measures 10m x 5m and has a gentle slope to the deep end 1.80m. It is equipped with a pool alarm. There is a barbecue, garden furniture and deckchairs and sun shade round the pool. Table tennis and bicycles are available. Large private landscaped garden bordered by walnut groves and woods. Listen to the deer and foxes in the evening, watch the swallows swoop in the pool in the early twilight. Utility Room: Washing machine, boiler and rack for drying clothes. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen provided. Towels are not provided. There is an 80€ cleaning charge on leaving the property. Extra cleaning service on request. Other: French-windows open out onto a partially-covered terrace, pool, meadow and walnut grove. The front entrance is via a charming, walled-in courtyard.
