About Sandra Fredman

We live in England but have always loved Italy. We bought our house in Cresti in October 2007.

Sandra Fredman purchased this house in 2007

Why Sandra Fredman chose Montescheno

The house in Cresti has given our whole family, whether grandparents, parents, or teenagers and their friends, some of our most fantastic and memorable holidays. We love the house, ringed by traditional wooden balconies, where every bedroom has stunning views of Alpine mountains, valley and sky. We love the cobbled alleys of the village, the old stone roofs, the clear Alpine water and the lively bar with its sunny tables overlooking the valley. There is an endless range of walks, from casual strolls to substantial hikes high into neighbouring mountains. The Monte Rosa Massif, the second highest set of peaks in the Alps towers over the neighbouring valley. There are boatrides acorss the lakes, trainrides through stunning scenery, and lively towns with open cafes, icecream and good food

What makes this house unique

In summer, we swim in the Alpine lakes: the clear cold water of Lago Antrona, ringed by forested mountains; the gentle waters of Lake Mergozzo; or sparkling rock pools in the valley. We eat in the garden with its wide open vistas at the old stone table under the arch. In winter, several ski resorts are in easy reach. If you don't ski, hiking through the snow covered mountains in snowshoes is exhilarating. It’s been great for the young people because of its easy accessibility by train and bus, cheap flights to Milan and the friendly people around. The house is on 3 floors with 5 spacious bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, making it easy for 9 people to live there without feeling crowded. We've kept the rustic style, but made it very comfortable, with central heating, washing machine, dishwasher etc.

Guestbook comments from the owner

'Just wanted to say thank you -we had a fabulous week, loved the house, the village, the whole area. Weather was mostly brilliant & we did some wonderful walks '

‘We had a brilliant time and regret having to return home. We enjoyed the local walks, weather was mostly good, supermarkets and food surprisingly inexpensive. There was just so much to do, such variety but nevertheless still very relaxing.

We would love to go back there sometime and we will certainly recommend it to friends. It is truly a great place to holiday, you are very lucky to have found it. Many thanks for all you help in providing a memorable holiday.’

‘We really enjoyed our stay in Cresti - very comfortable house in a beautiful location. Hope to return.’

'We had a great time thanks. The house was perfect. We enjoyed the places you suggested. So glad we found your house!'

Fantastic house in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

Five friends and I stayed at this house for a week long relaxing break and we were not disappointed on any level. The pictures on this website do not do the house justice. It is located in a very pretty village with panoramic views of the surrounding valley with an adjacent garden which is perfect for BBQs and sunbathing. The house itself is clean, spacious, cosy, and well equipped with cooking equipment, games, and towels, and a dishwasher and washing machine. The owners were extremely helpful in making sure that our trip ran smoothly, and were always quick to respond to our queries.

From the house it is just a short drive to nearby lakes; Lakes Antrona and Mergozzo are particularly worth a visit for swimming and walking. Also a short drive away is the town of Domodossola where we found multiple good quality and good value restaurants as well as some interesting cultural sites. There are also footpaths leading directly from the house leading up the valley. We had fantastic weather for the entire week with temperatures consistently around 30 degrees.

I would definitely recommend this property, and hope to return for another holiday in the near future.

Highly recommended

We would recommend renting this property. My wife and I had a fantastic time staying here.

The property is just as described - views from bedrooms are breath taking and beautiful.

It has plenty of charm, but this did not compromise function. We were very comfortable with the well equipped kitchen and washing machine, etc. The garden adds to the charm, especially pleasant for meals.

We hired a car (private transport probably a necessity), so were easily able to travel to many of the immediately local, and less local (Sempione, Milan), areas of interest.

There was a good range of walks and hikes to suit various levels of vigour.

We also went for trips to the lakes (Antrona, Mergozzo, Maggiore), and even a swim, too. (Swimming in alpine lakes in late September is best undertaken by getting into the water without pausing to test the temperature.) The boat trip from Stresa to the islands afforded us the chance to really lose ourselves in the natural beauty.

Ice cream at 'Voglia' in historic centre of Domodossola was a (frequently repeated) must.

The property was well maintained, and cleaned just before we arrived - and to a high standard.

We stayed in this house in Cresti with 4 adults and 5 children and it felt very spacious, ideal for several parties. The view and balcony are absolutely stunning and the house is well equipped with simple, restful decor. The garden with its view over the mountains was a lovely place for grown ups and children alike.

The immediate location is on a very steep hill, with short walks to surrounding villages, the charming town of Domodossola a short drive or bus ride down the valley. Lake Antrona at the head of the valley provides a swimming opportunity with dramatic scenery and there are beautiful day trips accessible by train to other lakes. A highlight of our trip was the Lake Maggiore express, including a boat trip right into Locarno in Switzerland, followed by a scenic train back through the mountains.

We didn't have a car and this did narrow our options a little, although if you are willing to catch the early bus there is plenty to do.

We'll be back!

Schönes, geräumiges Alpenhaus im Dorf

  • 4 of 5
