About the Owner

We moved to live in the South of France in 2005 to continue our love of the culture and lifestyle that France offers. We are able to work and live in a beautiful rural village location and still make use of our great apartment in Aime La Plagne both in summer and winter. Our love of the outdoors, summer or winter, is what makes living in France great for us, walking and relaxing a wonderful and less stressful lifesyle.

Many fantastic holidays have been spent with our 2 sons in the beauty of the snow, mountains and stunning coastlines of France.

We feel very privelidged to be living this lifestyle and are pleased to be able to share this by renting out our properties.

A nice comfortable, clean and welcoming Gite.

  • 5 of 5

We found it peaceful, clean, efficiently run and a good village to return to in the evening as quiet. The garden and patio were especially nice; with eclectic influences in garden design from Provencal to Japanese. It was quite evident that the English owners were international too - with a Russian mug in the sitting room! The kitchen was fully equipped for cooking and the sun room cosy to eat in.

Location

From the Owner

We chose this village because it typifies what we think of as rural life in France. There are 3 vignerons in the village and tractors and trailers with piles of grapes are a common site in August and September, as the vines and their harvest take first place in the village. The people are very friendly and have welcomed us as permanent residents, willing to have a go and participate in any event in the village, from planting out the flowers to preparing fetes and other celebrations.

The area is fantastic for walking and discovering the history of the Cathar castles with views of the enigmatic Rennes le Chateau, and the mysterious Pic de Bugarach and the Eastern Pyrenees, from the village. We can arrange guided walks, randos and tours to take you on a journey through breathtaking limestone scenery with its gorges, plateaux, and majestic crags. For the slightly less adventurous there are beautiful local walks through the vines in the village.

Coastal resorts of the Mediterranean are within a leisurely drive of about 1½ hours, through breathtaking scenery. The Catalan harbour town of Collioure near the Spanish border is a haven for artists, writers, poets, with fabulous shops, museums and restaurants. Canet Plage has wonderful facilities for the family, as does Valras Palge just north of Narbonne.

There are 3 swimming pools nearby and lakes with beach entrance approx 30 and 45 mins.

Further Details:

The bakers van calls in Antugnac each morning with freshly baked delights. The local vintner Delmas, has a wonderful shop in the village where you can buy Blanquette, or walk down to Couiza and stop at the Haute Vallee cave with your bidon (plastic bottle) and fill up with the local Merlot for 1.50 euros a litre. Local markets in all nearby villages and towns. Nearest supermarket 3km.

Facilities

From the Owner

Although rural, we are only 3km from the main road between Carcassonne and the Pyrenees, giving easy access to shops and airports. We are well placed for access to local markets, Cathar castles, lakes and swimming pools. The coast between Narbonne and Perpignan is only 1 1/2 hours as are the Pyrenean mountains. We are situated in local hills and there are walks from the village from between 1/2 to 5 hours, with beautiful scenery at every turn. If you want to leave the car at the nearby station, you can use the €1 buses and local trains, a great way to explore. As you have probably gathered we are totally in love with this beautiful area and feel very blessed to be here.
