About the Owner

I was born a farmer's daughter and grew up in the village of Abbotsham. Having moved away, I was delighted to have the opportunity to come back and bring up my children here. I have three grown up girls, now 20, 22 and 24, who are mostly away now but my mum and my brother live close by and most of the rest of my relations are buried in the local church yard! It means we know everyone in the village, we have a great support network and in return we are passionate about supporting the local rural and business community. If you need any introductions or have any questions about where to go and what to do I am sure I will be able to help you.

A haven of relaxation and calm, so much space and so well equipped, it seems you have tried to think of everything, what can we say but a huge THANK YOU JACKIE!

Great house, great views, great beaches, great surf, great fun, Great Britain!

What a fantastic holiday and a perfect place for a family 65th birthday. Plenty of room even for our 6 boys! Everything has been wonderful! keep our beds warm, we'll be back some time soon.

Back again! our summer wouldn't be the same without our reunion at your wonderful holiday home, it gets better and better - loved the hot tub!

We love South Clay!

  • 5 of 5

South Clay was a fantastic place to stay for a weeks family holiday which included 7 adults and 4 children, ages ranging from 20 months to 60+ years. The house is extremely spacious, very well equipped, and sparkling clean. On arrival, all the basics are provided so you could literally arrive with your suitcase, drop anchor, (go to the pub?) and shop the next day if needed. Good shopping is available a short drive away. The amazing facilities, which were all well maintained and in exellent condition, meant that when we weren't out and about, there was always something for everyone to do. There is so much to do nearby, and nothing is far away. Our big disappointment is that we didn't discover the Tarker Trail earlier in the week! The oysters from The Shack in Westward Ho! are a must. The pub in the village was great; walkable, good beer, good food, child friendly and also dog friendly. They do a Sunday carvery which we missed but it looked amazing.

Jacquie was very welcoming and whilst we didn't feel 'watched', she was always there and very helpful if we needed help or had any questions.

We all highly recommend South Clay, and hope to return again some time. Thankyou Jacquie and Steve.

Oustanding Property with all you could wish for!

  • 5 of 5

My family booked this for a surprise 60th birthday weekend away and I could not have wished for more. The house is fantastic with so much space and so beautifully equipped. The views from the master bedroom are to die for! Furnished superbly and immaculately clean, we felt at home straight away, the hot tub was a huge hit - just wish it had of been summer so that we could have taken advantage of the tennis court and pool. The owner was very helpful and thorough. The only fault was that we only spent the weekend here and that is just not long enough!

Excellent base for North Devon holidays

  • 5 of 5

Our group (8 men) had a wonderful walking holiday based at Southclay. The property is spacious, well equipped and well situated for our walks. (Two of our walks were on Exmoor, an hours drive away, but well worth it). We are all members of a tennis club, so the court, in good condition, was well used. Ah, and that hot tub after a long coast hike... This was our fifth annual walking holiday, and we all voted the property the best yet. Very highly recommended.

Fantastic Weekend Away

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic weekend away in November, the weather wasn't brilliant but the hot-tub made up for it!

The house was lovely and in a great location for hiking, sightseeing and really handy have a large Asda near by.

I certainly will be back and would recommend Southclay to anyone.

Southclay is Brilliant

  • 5 of 5

Everything is perfect at Southclay. The house, location and facilities are excellent and the welcome fantastic. Jacquie could not have been more accommodating - every guest review mentions the cream tea she served on arrival and it was a memorable way to start a wonderful week. There's plenty to do in the locality and no-one could fail to enjoy a holiday here (even though the weather can never be relied upon!)

We'd go there again like a shot!

Owner's Response: Oh NO! You really shouldn't tell everyone about the cream tea - it puts me under such pressure to try and make sure my scones rise! (Only my most special guests get a cream tea anyway so I am really glad you enjoyed it!) Thank you for taking the time to write a review David - you and your lovely family would be very welcome back anytime. Jacquie

Accommodation at Southclay

  • 5 of 5

Excellent accommodation. Well suited to a family holiday with good beaches and lots to do for children in the near vicinity.

The westerly aspect looking towards Lundy island provides some stunning sunsets.

Location

From the Owner

Southclay is in a fabulous location on the edge of the village with spectacular views over open countryside to the sea. We built the house ourselves including a sunken tennis court so that the sea view was maintained. We originally intended to move into Southclay, it was therefore built with a really high specification but having rented the property out for a couple of months never got around to the move when we realised its value as a holiday let! The Annex is actually on the end of our family home, adjacent to Southclay. Recently converted (the barn end of a Devon longhouse) It is a delightful, stone, character cottage with its own hot tub. My husband and I rather rattle around in the other end of the house now the children have grown up but love to hear our guests enjoying the garden.

Facilities

From the Owner

An exceptionally friendly village with a great community spirit, good local pub, village stores and post office, church, chapel, village school and community play area and the Big Sheep tourist attraction at the bottom of the hill... Abbotsham has something for everyone. It is convenient to the main A39 highway (1 minute's drive) so excellent for cutting journey times and as a base for exploring the rest of North Devon yet from Southclay you would never believe a main road was nearby. It has only village traffic noise, a peaceful rural aspect and beautiful uninterrupted sea views.
