Great place, great service, great holiday

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 5 days at the villa at the end of August. It was a great holiday, and the perfect place to relax.

A great bonus is the city of Martina Franca - only 10 minutes away with many things to do. Most of the shops/restaurants are closed at midday and throughout the afternoon, but are open in the morning for breakfast and in the evening, when the city is most lively.

The villa itself was perfect : it was simple, old Italian style and also extremely clean and well looked-after. The kitchen was in very good condition, the bathrooms were very clean and the bedrooms were very comfortable. There is a seating area where you can eat outside, with a barbeque as well. The swimming pool was surprisingly very clean and also surprisingly large ( easily more than 15 meters! ), with a deep end and a shallow end. There was also a changing room, shower and toilet next to the pool, which was very helpful.

The owners were very kind and helpful. Although we didn't speak any Italian and they didn't speak any English, they helped us so much!

Overall, a very relaxing stay.

Location

Activity and Interests

Car: necessary

Coast/Beach:

The nearest beach of Torre Canne is just a 30 minute drive away. All along this section of the coast are long sandy beaches interlaced with rocky coves and out crops.

Travel:

Both Bari and Brindisi airports are 75km from the trullo. Car hire is essential however directions to the trullo are very straight forward.

Distances:

3km to the town of Martina Franca with an abundance of shops, bars and restaurants. Just 10km to both Alberobello and Locorotondo with many restaurants, open all year round. There are many places to visit and things to do in the local region, from the caves at Castellana Grotte and Putignano, to the cave dwellings at Mottola and Massafra. The coast has an abundance of villages, harbours and beaches from the remote and quiet to lively ones dotted with cafes, bars and restaurants.

Further Details:

The virtually undiscovered region is rural with historic towns perched on the top of the many hills, painted white to reflect the glistening sun. Puglia is Italy’s largest olive oil producing region with olive trees in every garden it is easy to see why. Every town has a market day selling locally produced goods from fresh fruit and veg, to clothes and shoes, a bargain to be found by all. The sun in July/August can be very strong, but with the weather being pleasant from May through to October there is plenty of time to explore this beautiful region.

Alberobello is an historic town made up with over a thousand 'trulli', a small cylindrical building that peasants built hundreds of years ago to avoid paying taxes, now a popular tourist attraction. At just 5km away with its many restaurants that are open all year round, it is within easy reach. In late September they hold a large festival where the whole town comes alive for 4 days with street markets, a fun fair and religious processions.
