About this property

Stunning Villa With Pool close to Montone, amazing views, tranquillity assured

A stunning country home, ensconced in over twenty acres of private grounds, Casa di Luce nestles into a hill in verdant Umbrian countryside, a few minutes from the beautiful ancient hill top town of Montone. Surrounded by lawns, olives, woods and a mountainous horizon, anyone staying at Casa di Luce will appreciate the superb views and the special sense of peace and calm. The villa has been lovingly restored and decorated in a modern chic style that blends seamlessly with the traditional stone walls and ancient wood beamed ceilings. Special attention has been paid to indoor lighting to create an intimate, but open and airy space. Swimming in the infinity edge pool, with a glass of wonderful Italian wine at hand, or just relaxing after a hard day of visiting idyllic local medieval villages and towns, the house is ideal for friends and for families in search of a place of style, beauty and tranquility.
It is a perfect place to stay for friends or families as the reception rooms are large and allow plenty of private space. The outdoor deck, by the kitchen garden, is a dream for watching glorious sunsets with a cocktail or the shooting stars at night. The covered loggia is perfect for barbecues and outside dining.
The ground floor has cool tiled flooring and is seamlessly open plan in the living areas. The entrance hall leads to a small office with a library for guests to pick and choose from, TV/video games room, comfortable drawing room leading to the pool with a traditional fireplace for cooler evenings and a huge well stocked kitchen/dining room with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the valley below. A well- equipped utility room leads off from the kitchen. On the other side of the entrance hall is a double bedroom suite, with a dressing room with a beautiful claw-foot bath and chandelier and a separate shower room and doors leading to the garden and its own patio.
The wrought iron staircase leads to the upstairs bedrooms and master suite. On this floor there is a double bedroom and a twin bedroom, each with their own bathroom opposite, and the master suite with its own dressing room, superb bathroom, fireplace and a wrought iron staircase leading up to the tower room with views across the valley and sleeping for an additional 2 people. The master suite has its own intimate private patio and outdoor staircase leading back to the front gardens. All bedrooms (and the tower room) have remote controlled ceiling fans for warmer evenings.
The surrounding gardens and Olive grove are awash with gorgeous plants and flowers. The pool area is stunning, loungers, hammocks and so much more! The pool annex hosts a table tennis table and secluded area for a spot of yoga or croquet; the kitchen garden is planted from May - September.

Our blissful week at Casa di Luce :)
We are a family of 5 from London with 3 adult children, and stayed at Casa di Luce the first week of September 2017. We wanted somewhere in Italy with a lot of space, and Casa di Luce was recommended by a friend who had stayed the previous year. We originally booked for late-June but had to change, and Samantha very kindly accommodated the change without penalizing us in spite of the September week being more expensive. I have to say we had the most blissful week in this wonderful, luxurious house. The house is beautiful, it functions so well for summer living, and the setting is unbeatable. The space and the layout was a luxury, and the house itself is beautiful with all modern facilities but finished in stone with lovely traditional flooring. We often find kitchens are not as well-equipped as we’d hope but that was not the case here with everything fully provided. The pool was perfect, if a little cold at this time of year, and the outside space and furniture all lent itself perfectly to relaxed days with no hassle. There are so many places to go in Umbria, beautiful hilltop villages and medieval cities. We didn’t have to travel far to experience some really good quality restaurants in Montone the local village and Gubbio. Samantha was terrific throughout and Paul the house manager was very helpful and professional even though he was on holiday himself that week he was able to help with urgent medical enquiries (!) Of all the places we have stayed in recent years this has been the best experience. The weather was kind so we have come away with great memories of Casa di Luce, the local village Montone and the incredible Perugia.
Stayed 7 nights in Sep 2017

Wonderful stay in Umbria Summer 2016
We are a family of six all adults. We had a wonderful stay in this house in Umbria in Summer 2016. It was perfect with fantastic views and sun sets from the pool. There was plenty to occupy us all as the house was well equipped or to do very little and just enjoy the sunshine as it was in a very quiet location. The interiors were a mix of modern and quirky. We would love to come and stay again soon.

A wonderful and secluded villa with amazing views
My family and I stayed at this wonderful villa at the beginning of August and all are expectations were thoroughly met. The property is situated in a quiet and secluded area nestled in the Umbrian country side with far reaching views over the glorious hills. Nearby hilltop towns of Montone with fantastic restaurants are minutes away by car. All mod cons were included in the villa and the owner of the property really has gone all out to ensure that a most comforable and enjoyable stay is experienced by all who stay. Our family had the most fantastic time here and we would certainly recommend this to others! Thank you once again.

Wonderful Holiday, Fabulous House
We chose this house as a place for a post wedding relaxation holiday and our party consisted of family from Australia, Canada, USA and UK. We all loved this house and can not wait to return. The house exceeded our expectations. It has been sensitively and beautifully restored. It's situation on the hillside affords fantastic views of the surrounding rolling countryside and the sunsets from the outside dining loggia are spell binding. The house is well stocked with everything you could want from the bathrooms to the kitchen and there is a beautifully written, highly informative guide to your every need in the area. The local hilltop village a short car ride up from the house is a delight and has a range of delightful places to eat and some small independent food shops. There are plenty of other towns well worth visiting in the area and we were split between the tourists and the pool side team. This was a dream holiday for a group that were in need of relaxation and we all felt so happy and restored by our time at Casa di Luce. It is a very special place.

Building the house in Italy has been a long term dream, mainly as a way of friends and family getting together (they are spread around the world). We wanted to create something special enough so that they felt that their holiday was not just about meeting old friend but a really memorable holiday at the same time.

My wife (lawyer) and I (CEO in IT) have a 4 year old and we spend as much time in Italy as we can. The idea of the rental for us is to cover the cost of maintaining the house and to have continual life in the place (empty houses seem to me to slowly die).

We have tried to make this house without compromise as it is where we want to spend our time.

Why they chose this property

The views are stunning. The house is private (only house on its own private road) but near enough to a truly beautiful medieval village (Montone is 1.5 miles) to be able to pop in for an aperitif or for lunch in one of 3 really good restaurants.

We get over 250 days a year of sunshine but still get a pleasant breeze in summer so it never gets unbearable.

The house is located near to really interesting places that we love to visit (Assisi, Gubbio, Perugia, Siena, Florence, Cortona etc etc) and we have been so welcomed by the locals that it feels a very special place.

Italy is stunning (ridiculously so), friendly with wonderful food and stunning wine.

All pretty perfect really.

What makes this property unique

Firstly as you drive up to the house time changes. Watches seem to stop and relaxation happens instantly.

The house is built to be beautiful but functional. We found most Italian properties to be cluttered and dark. We have built something open and light but still with the classic Italian structure.

The pool is beautiful. The horizon edge means whilst in it all you can see is the mountains and valley in the distance.

Although there are all the facilities you could wish for in the area you don't need to move (at all).
