Guestbook comments from the owner

Casa do Brasão has been an excellent base for us to discover an area that has hitherto been unknown to us. Marvão is an absolute must to visit - an amazing place, for both adults and children. The locals are wonderfully friendly. A journey to Spain to Caçeres - spotting eagles and kites on the way, was good. We enjoyed the local walks and had a delicious meal at O Poejo. Casa do Brasão has been wonderfully restored and decorated! Obrigado!.

Rydym wedi mwynhau'r wythnos yn fawr iawn. Diolch.

Stylish house in great location

  • 5 of 5

This house is so stylish you'll be taking photos from the moment you walk in. Great décor and some quirky touches make this an amazing place. This is also by far the most well equipped house you'll stay in. Tins of kitchen accessories, hair dryers, firewood for the fireplace and even several seating areas outside. The pool is great and the only sounds youll hear are the goats' bells in the distance. I'd love to bring this house home with me. TV worked and was tuned with lits of channels. Luis is a great and generous host and all was as described. A couple of quirky points: there are no bedroom doors, although the curtains and archway entrances make it private. The mezzanine bedroom (the best) is also open-plan. Would recommend if you are visiting Marvão. We'll be back.

Amazing house in an amazing region

  • 5 of 5

We arrived at this amazing house to find something that was way better than anything we had expected. A well equipped and comfortable house in a very pleasant village. Birds singing and the bells carried by the sheep were the main sounds that accompanied us throughout the stay. The region is a wonderful place for hiking and spring flowers made this a real treat. We would have loved to stay much longer but time to move on. Thank you for making our vacation such a pleasant one!!

Incredibily peaceful and beautiful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time here last summer. The house is very stylish and has everything you could possibly need. The kitchen is really well equipped and there is a lovely dining area outside which we thoroughly enjoyed in the evenings. There is internet access, satelite TV (good choice of channels) and lots of books and board games.

The pool provides welcome relief from the Alentejo heat, although it does have a lot of chemicals in it, which can be a problem for people with sensitive skin. We recommend a quick hose down after swimming. Towels are also provided.

The surrounding area is one of the most beautiful places in Portugal and it is so quiel and calm. You really do feel like you have left everything behind and you can relax completely.

I would definitely recommend this house to anyone wanting to visit this area.

A lovely gem!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at the Casa do Brasao. A beautiful, clean, well-equipped cottage in a quiet location. We enjoyed many mornings out on the stone table listening to birds, hearing the sheep bells and enjoying the olive grove. We will definitely recommend to friends.

Haus mit Stil in der wunderschönen Serra de Sao Mamede

  • 4 of 5

Das Haus ist stilvoll, marokanisch angehaucht, eingerichtet, die Küche ist sehr gut ausgestattet (Joao, there could be one larger pan for those adventuring to cook - for 4 people fine, for 6 the one in the house is too small.)

Zwei Minuspunkte haben wir zu vergeben:

Die Matratzen sind für Leichtgewichte ok, ansonsten unbeguem.

(New matrasses fpr the queen size and king size bed would be great!)

Wanderwege top!

Lisbon airport is 225km (2 hours 37 minutes). Car hire is recommended.

Marvao is an imposing and peaceful town on the highest crest of the ‘Serra de Sao Mamede’ Natural Park. A picturesque walled town of white houses, narrow cobbled streets, Gothic arches, Manueline windows and the magnificent castle, with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Castelo de Vide’s castle is surrounded by the town’s white houses and dominates the surrounding landscape. Steep, narrow cobbled medieval streets, Gothic architecture and the historical area known as the Judiaria.

Further Details:

Walks. The region of Marvao and the Serra da Sao Mamede, a protected nature reserve, is a wonderful place for walking. A mountain range with the highest point of 1,025 metres, is a treasure of rich and diversified flora and fauna. A micro-climate with thick vegetation, ancient roman roads and pathways, megalithic stones, an abundance of wildlife including rare birds of prey such as the vulture, kite or Bonelli eagle, and with a some luck you might see wild boar or deer. Wines. Alentejo is particularly suited to the production of wines of exceptionally high quality. It is dotted with vast areas of vineyards on extensive plains under a scorching sun that illuminates and matures the grapes that make Alentejo’s wines so special. Discover these great wines for yourself. Gastronomy. The Alentejo cuisine puts a touch of creativity and imagination into every dish. The Alentejo was formerly a major grain producer, whereas out among the Hispanic oaks and olive trees, large herds of pigs feed on acorns. Thus, bread, pork and olive oil form the basis of one of the best developed regional cuisines of Portugal. Swimming. A few kilometers away in Ranginha, there is a medium sized swimming pool and bar. Portagem has a large outdoor pool with a separate infants' pool. The facilities include a restaurant, snack bar and tennis court. Castelo de Vide has an outdoor pool with small water slides and also a separate infants' pool, restaurant and snack bar. Portalegre has a small outdoor pool with a cafe. There are also two dams in the region, Apartadura and Povoa, where you can fish or take a swim. It’s also a great place for a picnic. In the area there is also: tennis, horse riding, fishing, hunting, Karting and ballooning.
