Lovely Home
My family enjoyed this beautiful home. It was stocked with everything we could have needed, including coffee, wine and some delicious sweet bread for breakfast. Juan's Flying Burrito downstairs is a must-try. We walked throughout the beautiful homes in the Garden District, and caught the street car to visit the the French quarter. What a lovely time.

Simply Awesome
We've been visiting New Orleans regularly for almost twenty years and this flat was the hands down best place we've stayed. It's been beautifully restored, the attention to detail was fantastic - great art, fully stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, great linens and the space is just open and flowing. The deck overlooking Magazine Street was well used for evening drinks, we cooked several meals in the well appointed kitchen... it was really a great stay. The A/C worked great, with separate settings for upstairs and downstairs. We were traveling with our two children (ages 5 and 3) as well as another family of four (children aged 15 and 17). The Master BR suite is nicely private, down a little hallway off the kitchen... our little kids loved the upstairs where we all had our own bed to use. The private bedroom upstairs was fine for the two teenagers - but that is the only slight drawback is that if you have eight people then six of them are upstairs and two on the main level where the Master BR is. But we're close with our friends and loved it. We were all very sad to leave, really loved it. Plus the location is awesome - cafes, restaurants, boutiques up and down Magazine Street but you can't hear a thing from inside. Can't wait to go back!

Absolutely stunning property, perfect spot for our stay in NOLA!
If you’re looking for a stunning property, look no further! A walk through the lavender door & you feel as though you’ve been transported to the inside pages of Architectural Digest. The perfect amount of old charm & character with antiques & art that will have you wandering around, just taking it all in room by room. The heavy, custom drapery, old wood floors, bamboo dining table, ceiling height, original art, wallpaper & antiques, you can’t help but fall in love with your surroundings. If you appreciate design like I do, this place is for you, just beautiful!!!! Our family traveled to New Orleans from Germantown, TN & we couldn’t have asked for a better spot. Not only was the property breathtaking, the location can’t be beat! We enjoyed walking to breakfast, lunch & dinner most days, ice cream a few doors down, coffee each morning at a different (walkable) spot & people watching from the balcony. We were even lucky enough to see a bride & groom celebrating their nuptials with a second line band, it was the perfect ending to our trip! If you like to shop, Magazine Street is the perfect place, the neighborhood is very walkable & we always felt safe. Communication from the owners, Tom & Melanie, was perfect & they were SO informative & helpful!! Thank you for your hospitality, we enjoyed the wine upon arrival & our boys were thrilled to have the donuts!! What a special spot you have, thank you again, Tom & Melanie!! As they say in New Orleans, laissez le bon temps rouler!

I'm an Interior Designer (follow me on Insta - @CaravanFinds)! For several years I had a retail shop across the street from this property featuring Mid Century Modern art, furniture and furnishings. We fell in love with this property and neighborhood, and the more time we spend here that love just continues to grow. I own the property together with my husband, brother and sister-in-law, and we've all shared in the labor of love that has been its restoration. The style you will notice when you stay here, I think, represents New Orleans quite well. It is the blending of new and old, near and far, that makes this city so special. In addition to decorating and styling homes, I love to cook, host, and travel with my family and friends. And I'm enjoying learning Mahjong!

Why they chose this property

After several years operating a shop on this block of Magazine Street, I was keenly aware of how it draws in the community in ways other blocks don't. Ours is often the block where visitors begin their exploration of Magazine Street, and it's one of the last convenient blocks for locals to frequent before getting caught up in downtown traffic. There is always something interesting going on here, and I find myself having interesting and unexpected conversations all the time. So when the opportunity to buy a building on this block came about, I put a family partnership together to pursue it (that is my brother and his wife in the picture with my husband and me, and we own the property together). The name Maison De Violette pays tribute to my grandmother Violet - a woman of amazing style and personality, just like her home city of New Orleans.

What makes this property unique

Our side of the street on this block of Magazine was originally built in the late 1840s as overflow convent housing by the magnificent St. Alphonsus Church, which stands behind us. The church had the foresight to create retail shops on the ground floor, and apartments above. Our building was originally a bakery, and the original oven, tile floors, pressed tin ceilings and other features have all been preserved lovingly in our ground floor retail space, home to RHINO Galleries (a must-visit stop on any New Orleans shopping trip!). We love the history here. It's alive and celebrated, and it makes this a very unique location among the many special neighborhoods of New Orleans.
