Villa with private swimming pool (7x3m), outside barbecue, large terrace area and covered terrace to rear. There are gardens to the front and rear containing fruit trees and shrubs. A new villa in very attractive village of Poilhes. Just a few steps to the famous Canal Du Midi. Nearest beach, St Pierre Sur Mer is 30 mins drive. Nearest small towns are Capestang and Montady both approx 4km. Nearest large towns are Beziers approx 10km and Narbonne approx 20km.

About Sue Knight

We purchased the land and built the house in 2005 after many years holidaying in France. Mike was a Civil Servant until he retired in 2008 and Sue still works in Sales. We now live in a little cottage in Whitchurch Hampshire and enjoy travelling to France as often as we can. We have 2 grown up children and 1 grandchild.

Why Sue Knight chose Beziers area

After many years of holidaying in France we decided to purchase a property in this area. The village of Poilhes is very quiet and the perfect place for a relaxing holiday with the coast and mountain areas very close by. However within a short drive there are towns ranging in size from Capestang to Narbonne. The area of Languedoc has in excess of 300 days of sunshine a year. We purchased the land on which the house is built in 2004 and had the house built by a local builder. It was completed at the end of 2005. Since then we have gradually worked on the land around the house completing the pool in 2006 and the gardens finally in 2010. Of course the gardens are never finished and every time we are in Poilhes we spend lots of time keeping them weeded and trimmed. Everything seems to grow so quickly in Poilhes!

What makes this house unique

We find the the location of the property is perfect as it sits just a matter of yards from the Canal Du Midi. Walks and cycle rides along the banks can be taken without the need to ride on roads and is the perfect way to visit some of the local restaurants.

Coast/Beach:

Nearest beach, St Pierre Sur Mer, is approx 30 minutes drive. This has long sandy beaches and continues into Narbonne Plage and Gruissan. Also has lots of cafes and restaurants. There is also another lovely sandy beach resort at Valras Plage with great facilities for children (climbing frames, rope swings etc.) plus an excellant choice of bars and restaurants. Cap D'Agde is also approx. 45 minutes drive, here you will find Aqualand Water Park, boat trips, water sports and also an excellent marina.

Travel:

Nearest airport is Beziers/Cap D'Agde, approx. 30 minutes. Carcasonne, Perpignan and Montpellier are approx. 1 hour, Toulouse, Gerona and Nimes are approx. 1 hour 30 minutes.

Driving time from Calais is approx. 10 hours.

Car hire is recommended.

Distances:

The nearest small towns are Capestang, Nissan and Montady both approx. 4 kms. The nearest big town is Beziers approx. 10 kms and Narbonne approx 20 kms. Carcasonne is approx 1 hours drive and the hills of Haute Languedoc approx 20 - 30 minutes. The Spanish border is approx. 1 hours drive from the house and the Costa Brava resorts are all very accessible. Barcelona is a two to three hours drive.

Further Details:

The small village of Poilhes has a population of approx. 500 and is situated on the Canal du Midi. It has three restaurants and a shop which stocks a wide variety of goods.

The nearest banks and supermarkets are in Capestang, Nissan and Montady.

There is a long table and chairs located on the pool terrace near the barbecue along with 8 sun loungers. A stair gate is provided and is kept in bedroom 2. There is also a travel cot. Outside: Swimming pool is private and is 7x3m. Outside barbecue. Large terrace with an additional covered terrace to rear. Gardens front and rear containing fruit trees and shrubs. Utility Room: Washing machine and tumble dryer in garage. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All towels and bedlinen (not beach towels) included. Lovely house with a good sized pool.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Poilhes the house had everything that we needed. The kitchen was very well stocked with crockery, cutlery and cooking pots. The outside area was very spacious with lots of sun loungers and different areas to sit.

The fruit trees in the garden were a real bonus!

The village, canal and scenery were great. All the beaches that we went to were lovely.

Sue the owner was very helpful and responded very quickly to any queries we had.
