Notes on accommodation: Both bedrooms and the living area have air-conditioning which offer heating and cooling options. Hair dryers are provided in each bedroom. Outside: Located on a 4000m2 plot with one other villa, you enter via a shared gateway leading onto a private driveway to the property. The villa is surrounded with patio and terrace areas and at the back of the property is a 40m2 private pool area for sole use by Villa Maranna occupants only. We have a portable BBQ that will be available and set up on the patio by the pool. Planting within the grounds is maturing nicely. The bedrooms are downstairs and each has access to a terrace area by the pool. Upstairs is the living area and kitchen and this has access to a covered outdoor terrace with dining for 6 at a marble topped table. The pool is surrounded by terraces on which there is plenty of room for sun loungers, chairs and tables for guests to relax on and enjoy the views and magnificent sunsets. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All towels and linen are included and will be replenished every 7 days on multi week bookings. If a longer stay is planned, then our key-holders can provide a mid-stay clean for 30 Euro (payable locally) Other: To achieve the full benefits of the wonderful views, our living area, kitchen and outside dining are situated upstairs. All rooms are air-conditioned. The upstairs dining terrace, balcony and private pool have unobstructive safety railings

"HOLIDAY HEAVEN !!"

The Villa is in the most beautiful setting with stunning sea views and outover the bay, and well equipped for a great holiday. Can't find enough adjectives to say how good our holiday was at Kokkino Chorio staying at Villa Marranna. Stunning sunsets each night over Souda Bay and lazy days around the pool when we weren't out exploring Crete. Local for beaches and Chania Town, but you do need a car. Mark and Jo, you have done yourselves proud !!!!!! From our first contact with you at booking to all your follow up emails we couldn't have chosen a better villa and owners to book with. Thank you a great holiday.

The villa was exactly as described. We're in the process of re-booking.

We enjoy a home from home, so we we're impressed with the amenities at the villa which had everything we needed in the most beautiful and tranquil location. We have holiday in Kokkino chorio several times over the past 10 years and this was one of the best villas we have stayed in. Simple, clean, safe with all mod cons and plenty of hot water and a good kitchen. The outdoor space allowed us to make the most of the stunning views and be at one with the nature around us. We loved that the sheep grazed in the fields next to the garden. The pool provided a focal point and the sound of the water gentle filtering was very relaxing. We went for a run every morning, and watched films and played cards in the evening. By day we relaxed by the pool and cooked up some lovely meals and BBQs. We visited the remote and beautiful Balos Lagoon and spent a day in Rythmenon. We swam in sea at Almyreda and also at Kalyves. We got a Europa car from Chania airport. Our thanks to Mark and Jo for allowing us to share their beautiful villa and to Andy and Helen for looking after us whilst we were there. We can't wait to go back, and are in the process of booking our return trip.

Great Villa and location

This was our first visit to Crete and what a gem of a villa. Great facilities and layout of the property to take advantage of the views and tranquillity of the area. Great situation for exploring this side of the Island. Tavernas good in Plaka and Almyrida close by if you don't wish to stay in and cook.

Perfect villa for total holiday relaxation

We have just returned from a fortnight at Villa Maranna - a lovely villa with all the home comforts you might need. The sunsets across the bay each evening were a real highlight and the views from the upstairs terrace were stunning. There are plenty of lovely tavernas within a short drive or slightly further afield in Chania or Rethymno. Andy and Helen were extremely helpful and gave us some great restaurant recommendations. The weather was perfect - not too hot and just right for lazing by the pool. Thank you Jo and Mark, the villa was fantastic and we would not hesitate to recommend it to others.

Delightful villa in a wonderful position

This is an excellent two bedroomed villa in a great position. The views over Souda Bay are wonderful at most times of the day and it also provides a great spot for watching the sunset, preferably with a glass of something cool in your hand. The bedrooms are spacious, the master particularly so, and two bathrooms saves any fighting over occupation. There is a very good kitchen with ample equipment and everything has been planned out very carefully by the owners.

The pool is great, although May still proved a little challenging as the water temperatures are quite low, but heating up noticeably by the day. There is plenty of space to lounge around but also a number of country walks can be found around the property with even more after a reasonable drive.

Chania and Rethymno are both about an easy hour's drive away whilst there are a number of very good tavernas within ten minutes of the villa.

If we were to return to this area then we would certainly try to rent this again.

Coast/Beach:

The blue flagged beach resort of Almyrida is approximately 10 minutes drive away from the villa. The stunning beach is very safe for small children. There is also an opportunity for holidaymakers to use the windsurfing school, take out a catamaran or snorkel off the rocks. Kalives is a 15 minutes drive away, with 3 main stretches of beach. There is also a quiet cove only 5 minutes drive from the villa. This offers seclusion and picturesque surroundings, ideal for diving and snorkeling.

Travel:

Car hire is recommended for our guests. Chania airport is a 30-40 minute drive away, while Heraklion airport is approximately 2 hours drive away. For information on car hire please contact owner.

Distances:

Kokkino Chorio with a taverna and mini market: 5 minute drive/20-25 minutes walk. Plaka for bars and restaurants, mini market: 8 minutes drive. Almyrida with it's blue flag beach and town with large bakery: 10 minutes drive. Kalives town, beach, restaurants: 15 minutes drive. Chania city, harbour, shops, cobbled lanes, market, leather stalls, restaurants and excursions: 30-35 minutes drive.

Further Details:

The Apokoronas region of Crete, where the villa is located, is an ideal spot for walking, bird watching and just general exploring. There are many points of interest including gorges, coves, caves, historical buildings/ruins and museums that illustrate the history of this part of the Mediterranean. Kokkino Chorio, also known as The Red Village, was used in the 1964 film Zorba the Greek. It also plays host to a cave which was used in World War II by the Nazis as an artillery spotting position. From this cave it is possible to see right over to Souda Bay. Souda Bay is home to the Navy and Airbase and we do see some fighter planes flying over the bay on practice days. You can often also see naval frigates and the occasional submarine in the bay. A great day out for the children lies about an hour's drive away at the fabulous water park. THE WEATHER IN CRETE:- APRIL: Spring time in Crete with medium temperatures and low rainfall. Crete is full of wild flowers and it is magnificent. MAY: The weather in Crete becomes warm and sunny. Rain is unlikely to occur past May 10th. The sea is calm and nature is at its best. May is considered the best month for outdoors activities. A jacket will prove useful for the night.

JUNE: Sunny and hot. Time for the beach! JULY & AUGUST: These are the months that the seasonal North winds blow. It is hard to do anything else during these months, than spend the entire day at the beach. Look for a shady place and drink plenty of water. Do not forget your hat and sunscreen. Not the best weather for people who cannot stand high temperatures (30-35 C). SEPTEMBER: Sunny, less windy and slightly cooler. Good for outdoors activities. Get a light jacket for the night, especially if you plan to visit any mountainous areas. OCTOBER: Sunny, very few windy days but some rain will fall, especially in the west part of Crete. The weather is very good for outdoor activities

Booking Notes:
We require a 25% deposit to reserve dates and the balance will be due 60 days prior to your arrival. Any monies paid are non-refundable, so we recommend that you take out adequate travel insurance, to cover you in case you cancel for any reason.

Changeover Day:
To maximise occupancy we tend to operate a Saturday-to-Saturday booking cycle, certainly during the "peak" Summer season. Changeover days in the Spring (March-May) and Autumn (September-November) are more flexible, so please feel free to enquire.
Our arrival & departure times are; entry to the villa from 3pm on day of arrival & depart by 10am following your last night. This may be flexible depending on bookings either side of your stay
