Apartment Oleandi offers modern and spacious open-plan living with breathtaking views overlooking Castle Orsini and the picturesque medieval hill top town of Soriano nel Cimino. This attractive and well-appointed 2 bedroom/2 bathroom home, with a balcony running the full length of the property allows guests to enjoy wonderful morning sunrises and evening sunsets overlooking the most stunning of views, over the unspoilt countryside of the Tiber Valley and beyond to the Apennine Mountains.

Located within an easy 5 minute walk from the heart of Soriano's pretty winding streets and excellent local amenities, this relatively undiscovered lively town, reminiscent of those of nearby Tuscany and Umbria, yet untouched my mass tourism, offers visitors the chance to discover a truly authentic Italy, while still enjoying an excellent variety of bars, fantastic yet reasonably priced restaurants, traditional stores providing superb local produce and a Friday morning weekly market.

A 15 minute drive to the beautiful historic larger walled medieval city of Viterbo, an hours’ drive from Rome and less than a 30 minute drive north to the neighbouring borders of Tuscany and Umbria, Apartment Oleandri’s location in northern Lazio, together with its own allocated parking, provides the ideal base to explore this area’s magnificent towns, lakes and coastline all close at hand and easily accessible by either car or rail. Discover the best of both worlds while holidaying here, a relaxing holiday in the heart of central Italy's stunning countryside, yet perfectly positioned for day trips to some of Italy's most fantastic cities. For more information on our area of Italy please visit our website, Tuscia Lets.

Getting a feel for Soriano living; The town’s main square is the living hub of the community and an integral part of daily life. Stopping off at Bar Roma in the morning for the perfect Italian coffee and pastry and enjoying an evening aperitivo on the piazza while watching the world go by at Bar Centrale, are daily Sorianese past times not to be missed. Be transported back in time by exploring Soriano’s pretty medieval streets, fountains and churches in the heart of the town that lead up to the 13th Century Orsini Castle. Visit the Renaissance fountains of Papacqua and Palazzo Chigi-Albani and enjoy fantastic meals at restaurants Tre Scalini, Due Camini and Taverna dei Frati to name but a few. Once the stables of an old monastery the Taverna’s large terrace overlooking the valley below provides the perfect setting for al fresco dining on warm Spring and Summer evenings and its only around the corner from Apartment Oleandri.

About the Owner

Ciao a tutti! My name is Daniela and I am lucky to have been coming to Soriano nel Cimino and the surrounding area of la Tuscia my whole life. We are an Anglo-Italian family based in Sussex, England. We have long family ties with this beautiful town through my father, where we continue to spend our holidays with family and friends. Our two properties advertised on here, Villa Casa Renata and Apartment Oleandri are both used as homes away from home, and so ideally fully equipped with all you could need for a long or short stay. We hope you enjoy this place as much as we do.

In two words-LOVED IT!! Everything perfect. The view will be remembered always. Fantastic beaches, Vico wonderful. Food was excellent, difficult to recommend as everywhere we ate was superb. A return visit a must, thank you Daniela.

We absolutely loved the apartment, so well equipped and such a fantastic position. A trip to Rome on the train from Orte is a must. We enjoyed the lakes, especially Vico. Soriano is a lively town and great to walk into in the evenings - lovely gelateria in the main piazza. A great holiday all round!

Parsons Family, Somerset.

Arrived on the opening night of the Chestnut Festival to the sounds of beating drums and trumpet fanfares. Festival included parades, flag throwing, jousting, and a palio, all traditional medieval costume, a great delight and so unexpected. A week of wonderful weather touring around beautiful 'lived in' villages. Lovely apartment with fantastic views as promised!

A lovely well presented, well equipped apartment with a fabulous view over Soriano. The apartment was clean and the goodies on arrival were well received. A lovely and comfortable place for a base to explore the region.

A week in Soriano

  • 5 of 5

We spent a family (2+2) Holiday week in the flat at Soriano and our only regret was that we did not book for two weeks. Firstly, the 3rd floor flat is very large and spacious. It was Immaculate and spotlessly clean with a modern airy feel. Frankly the brochure pictures do not do it justice by any means.

Our reception was great with a welcome basket containing some local produce. The flat was located opposite the main town and a few minutes’ walk around the top of the ravine brought you to the centre where all the locals we met were very welcoming and friendly. The flat has free parking outside as well as a restaurant just next door!

There were several good and reasonably priced restaurants in the town plus pizza and gelateries etc. Prices Generally were much lower and the food better that those encountered the following week in Chianti.

A small local shop is located a few hundred meters down the hill and a green grocer just up the hill. The main CO OP supermarket was a 4-minute drive down by the football stadium for stocking up.

We went to Rome by train for the day (35 mins) and parked at Orte station for a couple of Euros all day. Staff very helpful and it could not have been simpler. Going after lunch avoided the main heat and rush and we found plenty of good reasonable restaurants for an evening meal after sightseeing.

A short 20 -30 minute drive gave access to one of three lakes to spend the day with all the usual amenities and plenty of pedaloes / swimming for the kids

The Etruscan tombs at Tarquinia on the coast were well worth a visit as was the local Museum.

The Castle / Gaol in Soriano is only open weekends and strangely there is a room containing a large collection of record and cylinder players charting the development of recorded music in the 19th century. A local man gave a very detailed talk on the development of recording, demonstrating first-hand the improvements by playing the machines. It was in Italian but I could get the drift of what it was about and it was a truly fascinating discovery.

Frankly this was a brilliant Holiday in an unspoilt and I guess largely undiscovered part of Italy. I would recommend this property and location unreservedly and we will be going back in a year or two, I just hope it’s not already booked.

Apartment with a beautiful view

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay in Daniela's apartment. Everything that we needed was there, very comfortable bed, well equipped kitchen and lovely bathrooms. There was only two of us but plenty of space for a family. The town of Soriano is very pretty and the view from the apartment is stunning especially at sunrise. The town is a short walk and although this is not heavily visited by tourists it's very typically Italian. The apartment was spotlessly clean and the information about the local area is very informative. We visited Rome and travelled in by train and car on different days. This was both easy and convenient. Our only little niggle was that the water in the showers went from hot to cold and back to hot again. This in no way reflects on our rating and would not hesitate in visiting and staying here again. Thank you Daniela.

Owner's Response: Thank you Rebecca for taking the time to leave us this lovely review! Firstly I'd like to apologise for the shower water going from hot to cold, occasionally we have experienced this ourselves only when the washing machine is on, however thank you for bringing this to my attention, we will double check that there are no other faults. I am so happy you both enjoyed your stay in Soriano nel Cimino and found the apartment to be a comfortable base and 'spotlessly clean', I shall pass this message onto Federica! Thanks again for choosing to holiday with us and I look forward to welcoming you back at some point in the future. Best wishes, Daniela

Our stay in Soriano ne Cimino

  • 4 of 5

Started our Italian road trip with a week in Soriano at this lovely apartment.

Fantastic view and the apartment was beautiful, clean and well equipped. 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and a stunning view. 5-10 minute walk into the main square where there was bars and restaurants. Not touristy when we visited in September which we liked.

Owner's Response: Thank you Jo, for taking the time out to leave us this lovely review. Our small town of Soriano nel Cimino, for twelve months of the year, really is the untouched Italy few ever get to see and experience and we are so happy that we can introduce and share this fabulous area with our guests. You mentioned the fantastic view from the balcony at Apartment Oleandri, it's certainly a view that never gets old, right?! I hope it stays with you all for many years to come! Until next time... Best wishes Daniela

Apartment Oleandri

  • 5 of 5

Apartment Oleandri is a very well equipped, very well maintained and well placed modern apartment. The views across Soriano itself are fascinating and the wider plain and mountain vistas are stunning. Support for any queries concerning the property or local services and amenities were just a phone call away or amply provided for in the very detailed guides in the apartment. Soriano itself provides a number of good quality restaurants and bars. Supplemented by excellent local produce - meat, vegetables, fruit, wine. Eat out or eat in the quality is excellent. As a touring base the apartment is surrounded within an easy 30 mile circuit with ample and fascinating history - towns, Roman, Etruscan, museums, churches, hill top towns. A visit to the castle tower provides stunning and very different views of Soriano (weekends). The Palazzo Farnese at Caprarola offers the stunning painted map rooms plus the park, fountains and sculpted gardens - best on a weekday as the park is closed on a weekend. The gardens of Bomarzo with their fascinating 500 year old statues is a must. Access to Rome is easy via Orte railway station, cheap, quick, regular, plenty of parking. This is our second visit to the apartment and Soriano over a four year period. On both occasions we have been very impressed and satisfied. We would strongly recommend the apartment and the area.

Owner's Response: Many thanks, Chris & Linda for this great review on your return stay at Apartment Oleandri. I am so happy you had a great three week holiday once again exploring our area of Tuscia, one week is just never enough! When it comes to Italian Renaissance gardens, Palazzo Farnese and Bomarzo's Park of Monsters could not be more different, yet equally stunning, I'm so pleased you enjoyed your visits here. These, together with Villa Lante are three of our top recommendations to our guests. You are right, staying in Soriano is a foodies delight, we're truly spoilt for choice with the town's great restaurants and local produce and it's also a pleasure preparing meals and dining in our kitchen with a view! Thanks again and I really hope to welcome you both back in the future. All the best, Daniela

Stylish elegance in Soriano nel Cimino

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was as well appointed and comfortable as the listing promised, spotlessly clean and maintained to a very high standard. Daniela was responsive and communicative without being at all intrusive - had we had any problems we knew she would have been available to us but all was superb. We have already recommended the property to family and friends. The proximity to fabulous places such as Orvieto, Viterbo, Lake Bolsena, Caprarola and Lake Vico means you can enjoy a great mix of culture and history as well as relaxation. A fantastic area and marvellous holiday. I'm sure we'll be back,

Location

From the Owner

Apartment Oleandri is located in a sought-after area of Soriano. Once the location of one of the town’s top hotels, the apartment building looks out onto the most stunning view, which is one of the main reasons we bought and renovated this spacious property. It is now a modern, specifically designed space for family living, with a large open plan well equipped kitchen, ideal for home cooking and socialising. We have our own allocated parking space, however the apartment has the advantage of being a short leisurely walk to the heart of Soriano. An ideal stroll to browse the local shops and produce and stop off for a delicious coffee and pastry at our local, Bar Roma. Or returning from an evening after a superb meal with plenty of vino, in one of Soriano's many restaurants.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Rome's Fiumicino & Ciampino Airports at 100 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : Soriano's many bars an easy 5-10 min walk away at 500 Metres Nearest Ferry : Civitavecchia at 70 Kilometres Nearest Golf : Sutri at 20 Kilometres Nearest Train : Orte Scalo (15 minute drive) at 15 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : Orte A1 Rome/Florence at 15 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Soriano's Taverna dei Frati at 500 Metres Nearest Beach : Lake Vico (15 minute drive) at 15 Kilometres Car: recommended

Nestled between Rome, Tuscany, Umbria and the Mediterranean Coast, Apartment Oleandri in Soriano is situated within a prime location to explore this relatively undiscovered corner of Italy, the stunningly beautiful region of Tuscia, in northern Lazio. Less than an hours’ drive north of Rome, 15 minutes from the historic papal city of Viterbo and 90 minutes south of Florence.

Soriano nel Cimino: Standing at the foot of central Italy’s Cimini Mountains, the pretty hill top town of Soriano offers a great variety of local amenities; banks, petrol stations, excellent restaurants and bars, all within a short walk from the apartment. The local supermarket is a minutes' drive away. When staying in Soriano guests can truly discover authentic Italian small town life at its best.

Only a few minutes out of town and standing 1,150 metres behind Soriano is the vast wooded Nature Reserve of Lake Vico. Winding roads with spectacular views take you to the ideal place to escape the summer heat, for a swim in lake Vico, seasonal walks and picnics in the woods of La Faggeta or to the excellent restaurant/gelateria located at the entrance to the wood.

Viterbo: Northern Lazio's principle town of Viterbo (15 minute drive) is one of Europe’s best preserved and most beautiful walled medieval cities. Once the seat of the Papacy, the 13th Century architecture of Viterbo’s Papal Palace remains the symbol of the town to this day. The charming medieval quarter of San Pellegrino, the oldest part of Viterbo, is a series of pretty winding streets, inner courtyards and small piazzas dotted with antique shops, artist studios, restaurants and bars. Viterbo also offers a great selection of designer shops together with its handy larger hypermarkets on the outskirts of town. An area famed for its hot sulphur springs, Viterbo houses the famous health spa, Le Terme dei Papi, for those after a little pampering.

Recommended city day trips; Rome:70km Viterbo:12km Florence:160km Orvieto:40km Spoleto:70km Perugia:100km Assisi:60km.

NB Although we do recommend the use of a car when staying here, especially for exploring smaller towns and villages, many of our neighbouring cities are best accessed by rail. The train station at Orte (15min drive) is a rail hub to all major destinations throughout Italy, for example Rome's central Termini Station takes just over 1/2 an hr.

Lazio's Lakes: Our superb lakes provide excellent beaches to suit all tastes. Lake Vico's peaceful location high up in the woods creates the perfect setting for lazy days on secluded volcanic sandy beaches. A small selection of good cafes and restaurants plus water sports are available. Plenty of picnic areas with BBQs are dotted around the wooded shoreline.

The stunning crystal clear waters of the larger Lake Bolsena (30 minute drive), provide a number of great stretches of beach ideal for families and water sports enthusiasts. A large variety of good bars and restaurants line the shorelines of the medieval towns of Capodimonte & Bolsena.

Lakes; Vico(15km), Bolsena(35km) and Bracciano(40km).

Medieval Villages & Towns: There are an abundance of picturesque medieval towns to explore in our area, a few not to be missed include; Caprarola home to the stunning Palazzo Farnese and Bagnaia famed for Villa Lante and its grand gardens. For it's beauty and unique setting, The Dying City of Bagnoregio is also a must see. As is Bomarzo's Park of Monsters.

Recommended village day trips; Caprarola:15km Bagnaia:6km Bomarzo:10km Montefiascone:20km Bolsena:45km Tuscania:40km Civita di Bagnoregio:15km. Calcata:40km

The Coastline: Lazio's stunning coastline is within an hrs drive from Apartment Oleandri, offering sandy stretches of beach to rugged bays. The nearest beach is at Tarquinia Lido, a 40 min drive. Slightly in land is the Etruscan town of Tarquinia, famed for its archaeological sites and relics. The Tuscan coastal towns of Porto Ercole, Porto S. Stefano and the islands of Giglio and Elba are also reached in over an hrs drive.

Recommened beaches; Tarquinia:40km Santa Marinella:60km Montalto:50km Talamone:70km.

Local Swimming Pools: There are two pools close to the property; The sulphuric Terme di Orte (15 min drive), a large open air complex with restaurant and bar ideal for families & La Molinella, a smaller complex in Soriano itself. Aquafelix at Civitavecchia is the largest waterpark in the area.

Local Events: Each town and village celebrate their own unique festivals throughout the year, mixing Catholic heritage, ancient customs, music & culinary traditions; e.g. Montefiascone's Wine Festival on 1st-15th Aug and Viterbo's impressive Macchina di S. Rosa on the 3rd September. Soriano's most famous Chestnut Festival is celebrated throughout the 1st 2 weeks of October, bringing visitors from far and wide. Enjoy medieval parades & fan-fare while joining in the wonderful celebrations held in the local tavernas.

Please see our website for more information on local events.

Facilities

From the Owner

This area of Italy, known as La Tuscia, is one of the country’s hidden gems. Although Italians have been visiting this area for years, few non-Italians have discovered this diverse region of northern Lazio and its many festivals. We love to spend warm Spring and Summer days lounging by the lake, Lake Vico for a more peaceful and relaxed vibe or Lake Bolsena with its many bars, restaurants and water sports. And after all these years we still love to visit and explore this area’s array of medieval towns, I recommend the unique town of Civita di Bagnoregio as a must see. Back in Soriano you can live like a local and immerse yourself into an authentic Italian community. With our local knowledge of the area we are more than happy to recommend places to visit, restaurants etc and shopping tips.
