About the property

The Antica Masseria Timparuci

Why not choose Modica to enjoy a Sicilian holiday? This beautiful town has an abundance of art, archaeology, history, breathtaking scenery and, of course, excellent food to offer. Our 200 years old typical Sicilian stonehouse is named 'Timparuci'; it is located at 2km from Modica (UNESCO Patrimony of the Humanity) in the Sicily’s historic south-east district, best known for the Baroque architecture. It is the ideal place for discovering the enchantment of Modica, the suggestive charm of Noto, the suggestion of Sicily, the wonderful Mediterranean sea. Enchanting scenery, where hills stretch to the sea as far as the eyes can see and century-old carrubo trees dominate the landscape, we give hospitality to our guests and our friends in a family environment. The whole property is in 2 hectares. The swimming-pool is carved into the rock of the countryside. From the pool set you may enjoy a fascinating view on the Mediterranean Sea.

Why The Owner chose Modica

We are from Modica and we love it; despite being ravaged by earthquakes in 1613 and 1693 and floods in 1833 and 1902, Modica has maintained some of the most beautiful architecture in Sicily, in the Sicilian Baroque style. The city possesses a large Baroque Cathedral dedicated to San Giorgio. There is another church dedicated to San Pietro in Modica Bassa.

There are some beautiful beaches at 15 kms and a great range of bars and restaurants.

Another treasure of this area is the countryside with its typical landscape and the genuine food.

There really is something for everyone here. The area is easily accessible with Catania airport less than 2 hours drive away.

What makes this apartment unique

The convenience of staying at our property consists in enjoying the mediterranean nature, the mild climate, the peaceful location, the wonderful beaches, the comfort of a modern habitation ...

Guestbook comments from the owner

Although quite hard to find this property, once you arrive it takes your breath away!! The property is spotlessly clean and everything you could possibly need is in the house. The ground floor is the living /area and incorporates a truly magnificent bathroom. Very modern shower and the tiling is superb. All done by the owner and his wife according to the lovely couple who live on sight and look after your every need. The bedroom is on a mezzanine floor and looks out through a small farmhouse window over the fields and towards the sea. We slept extremely well as no expense has been spared on the beds/mattresses. The surrounding gardens are immaculately kept and all I can say about the pool is WOW!! There are plenty of sun loungers and a large sun deck area. We stayed in the house that faced out over the countryside and looks out to sea. In my mind the best view of all. We had early morning sun and a beautiful sunset each evening. Reaching the main towns is very easy. Scicili is 15mins by car. Beautiful small town and for those who follow Inspector Montelbanno his 'office scenes' are filmed here. 10 mins again and you are at some of the most stunning beaches sicily has to offer. The opposite way is Modica, famous for its chocolate and a visit to the oldest chocolate shop in Modica is recommended. Both of these towns are quietly busy and I suggest a local map for points of interest of which there are lots. We flew into Catania airport which takes about 2hrs (with a coffee stop). The roads are easy and take you over some small mountains and magnificent bridges. If I could give this property 20/10 I would and will be back in 2015.

We spent a week in this apartment and the only negative thing was that we had to leave. The apartments located in a peaceful area just outside of Modica with a few shops and restaurants in walking distance. The apartments themselves were comfortable, well equipped, had modern décor and maintained to a very high standard. The swimming pool is great too, it was cleaned every evening and because there are only a small number of apartments, we always had the pool to ourselves. The thing that made a real difference to the time we spent here was the owner Pinella and Anthony who helps her maintain the property. They were always so friendly, helpful and nothing was ever too much trouble. We have travelled a lot in recent years would highly recommend this apartment as we have never stayed anywhere where that we have been made to feel so welcomed and relaxed, and we will defiantly be returning soon for a longer stay.

My family and I stayed at this property for 6 nights in May 2010. It exceeded our expectations and we had a fantastic time. The accommodation was very clean with all amenities that were required, including a great pool with beautiful views. It is very good value for money. Modica is a beautiful city to explore, as is nearby Noto. The hosts of this property were very welcoming and friendly - thank

The perfect base for a restful holiday.

  • 4 of 5

Very comfortable accommodation. Well equipped. Fabulous pool and friendly owners. A great location for touring the Baroque towns and lovely beaches nearby.

Only downside was the steep, squeaky staircase from the mezzanine bedroom to bathroom, on the ground floor.

We had a lovely holiday and the weather was perfect.

Wonderful, serene getaway

  • 5 of 5

We loved it here. It is so peaceful and serene and the apts were very, very clean and well appointed. We could hear the cow bells at night under the big sky of stars. It is just a short drive to the middle of the city where you can get all the excitement you like. Highly, highly recommend.

  • 5 of 5

Lovely little house in a great area of lovely baroque towns which are great for exploring. The pool is the best I have ever swum in with lovely shadey spots for quiet reading. The house had everything we needed including the essential air con. Expect us to go back!

great accommodation!

  • 4 of 5

As a Mum with 2 adult daughters (students), finding suitable self-catering accommodaion can be a challenge - but this met our needs pefectly: 2 bedrooms each with its own en suite, a lovely kitchen with everything you woulld need plus a fabulous pool and gardens. The girls commented on the sun loungers being the most comfortable! For us (our 2nd holiday in SE Sicily), it was a good location - with easy acess to towns and beaches. We would definitely recommend - a well designed and maintained accommodation

Calm and Peaceful Accommodation

  • 4 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our week in Scirocco. It was calm and peaceful, with plenty of space in the garden to wander in. The pool is beautifully positioned, sheltering it from the breeze when it blows. The apartment was fine, beds comfortable and the bathrooms excellent.

The local area has a great deal to offer. There is a beautiful sandy beach at Pozzallo (and many others along the coast, but this was our favourite), plus lots of interesting towns to visit all within reasonable driving distance. We particularly enjoyed Scicli,Ragusa, Modica and Noto. For fans of baroque architecture, they were a treat. Other highlights were at Cava d'Ispica where the cave dwellings and burial chambers were amazing and of course chancing upon live filming in Ragusa of Montalbano and being able to observe that while we ate a light lunch in the piazza.

We highly recommend a holiday in this corner of Sicily and Scirocco was good value indeed.
