About Pam Yule

Back in 2004 Neil and I swapped our busy, city-based lives in the UK for rural bliss in southern Spain and feel much happier and healthier as a result. Looking after people on holiday is refreshing and fun and we're loving having the opportunity to explore our wonderful adopted country.

Pam Yule purchased this house in 2007

Why Pam Yule chose Alhama de Granada

We fell in love with the rugged wildness of the mountains around Alhama then we fell in love with the charms of this lively, beautiful and relaxing little town. The coast and great cities are close by but Alhama feels tucked away from all that hustle and bustle.

What makes this house unique

We got the idea of providing fabulous, great value accommodation whilst travelling in 2002. We know that going on holiday can cost a fortune and we feel that you shouldn't have to pay the earth to stay in beautiful accommodation. Our houses are traditional village houses which we have lovingly restored – you'll find lots of period features including beamed ceilings & antique tiled floors; cosy and charming our houses are also modern and stylish. Our travelling experience taught us that attention to detail is very important and we provide lots of little extras so that you can relax & have a lovely holiday. We aim to create something special - a comfortable home-from-home feeling and you can see we've had great feedback if you look at our guests' comments on our website.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Homely Clean Accomdation in a Beautiful Village

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 2 weeks with our 13 year old daughter. The house is comfortable, has everything you need and the decoration is in keeping with the house and the Moorish past of the village. Pam and Neil were a great help while we were there with our questions about the area and the facilities available.

We visited the coast , Granada (The Alhambra is a must if you are there), the lake to swim, the village pool (lovely atmosphere with the locals), lots of the bars and restaurants in the town, the Friday market, walked the gorge...loads of things to do in the area. The town is quite hilly so its good for your legs!

This was our first visit to Southern Spain and we wanted to avoid a tourist filled resort and this was perfect. Our 2 days on the coast were great but it was lovely to get back to the peaceful 'real' village!

Fabulous value for money - will be recommending it at home!

A fabulous stay!

  • 5 of 5

I spent three gorgeous weeks at Casa Navidad and had a fantastic time. Lots of excellent suggestions for places to eat and things to do offered by Pam, and the house itself was beautiful - full of character and obviously very well looked after. I especially loved the secluded terrace for excellent sunbathing and sunset dinners. Am eager to come back ASAP!

Just magical

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at Casa Navidad for a week. I'm just home and can't recommend it enough. A jewel of a house that is all piled on top of itself with stairs and nooks and crannies everywhere making it full of character and cosy as you like.

First off, it's very clean and everything you need is there. Pam and Neil are super hospitable with a smiley welcome (and a bottle of the local red). Small things like salt & pepper, olive oil, milk, tea and coffee - made my arrival that much easier after a 6.30am flight from England. I just wanted a cuppa and quick snack as soon as I arrived.

The town is a friendly (everybody says Hola!) and very Spanish spot. The food is great too. Especially when you get a little plate of tapas every time you order a beer. I loved that. In and around Alhama de Grenada there are great walks - the Gorge is called the 'Tacos' because it's shaped like a taco - Ole!

I spent some of my week visiting Granada which is easy to get to using the local bus if you don't fancy driving on the right hand side of the road, which I didn't. Got some great photos and there is so much more to see in that fascinating city, I'll just have to go back and do it all again.

Oh, I mustn't forget the log burner in the sitting room. What a treat.

A Fantastic Fiesta!

  • 5 of 5

Casa Navidad is a charming and cosy townhouse, close to Alhama's central squares, shops, bars and restaurants but far enough away to be on the local shepherd's droving route (listen out for bells in the evening...). Despite being a few minutes' walk from the Fiesta, you could barely hear the celebrations on the roof terrace.

It's a great little property, tastefully renovated with unique mosaics and tile work, and made the perfect base for a family of four. The fully equipped kitchen and welcome pack were much appreciated after a late night drive from Malaga. Pam and Neil were excellent hosts throughout the week and made our stay especially memorable.

The Fiesta was a four day fair showcasing Alhama's local produce, dancing, music and fantastic hospitality. It's well worth visiting (but expect some late nights).

If you're in the area, I'd heartily recommend the following:

-La Maroma (a great hike in cool weather, see the local trail maps)

-Alhama Tourist Office Tour (mill, churches, dungeons... all for EUR 5)

-Embalse de los Bermejales (lake swimming)

-Local queserias (local cheese producing farms, closest 1km West)

-Restaurants/bars: El Ventorro, Ochoa, Al Dente, El Tigre

Thank you Pam and Neil for a fantastic stay.

Hope to see you again soon!

Further Details:

Casa Navidad has a great little deli/supermarket 2 doors down. 5 minutes away, the centre of Alhama has banks, shops, bars and restaurants. There's a busy market with local crafts, fruit, veg, plants, flowers, clothes, etc every Friday.

Alhama de Granada, in the fertile heart of the Poniente Granadino in Southern Andalucia, is the perfect holiday destination. The town of Alhama offers history dating from Roman times through Moorish reign and up to modern days. Alhama is very attractive, traditional, bustling and precariously positioned running along the edge of an enormous limestone gorge, Los Tajos. Along the bottom of the gorge run the Rio Alhama. Nearby, hot springs gurgle into four thermal pools next to the Rio Alhama. The town has grand, imposing Medieval architecture and lively bars surrounding attractive squares. Surrounding Alhama are soft, pastel shaded rolling hills, attractive small villages and stunning views extending to looming mountain ranges.

Alhama is perfectly situated, close enough for an easy day or overnight trip to the splendid cities of Granada and Malaga; the sea air of the attractive seaside towns of Nerja and Almunecar; and the striking and exhilarating mountain regions of the Sierra Nevada and the Sierras Alhama, Tejeda and Almijara which offer great walking and winter sports.

Everywhere you look the view stretches as far as the eye can see and takes in gentle hills, green valleys and craggy moonscape mountain peaks. The Natural Park of the Sierras of Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama offer secluded picnic areas, usually next to a river or lake, and lovely walks. For hiking, the peak of La Maroma is at 2080m and offers year round snow in chasms at the summit and wonderful views of the area.

The attractive towns of Loja (40 mins), Montefrio (1 hour), Antequera (1 hour) and Archidona (1 hour) are all an easy, scenic drive away. Fabulous Sevilla and Cordoba are only 2 hours away. Bike hire, walk/hike/cycle tours available.
