Great place to stay with all the family

  • 5 of 5

Have just returned from staying at this lovely converted barn. The barn was beautiful, with a spacious living room a large kitchen with a big table that we could all sit for dinner. The barn had everything from DVD's to board games, plenty of books (my husband managed to read 4 while there). The children were never out of the indoor pool and games room they loved it. David the host was very attentive, if you had any problems he was always on hand. You will not be disappointed booking this lovely barn conversion, its just gorgeous.

Car is essential.

Superb for a young family with grandparents.

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful way to spend October half term!

We stayed as a family of four children (9,7,5 and 3), two forty-something parents and two seventy-something grandparents. Furlongs suited us down to the ground.

I think we all have different favourite things so I'll mention a few.

I loved the kitchen table. It's HUGE! Solid wood and well used so we weren't frightened to treat it like a normal table and know it would come out unscathed. It seats 8 comfortably and we ate all our meals and did all of our kids' activities in the kitchen. There's a separate dining area with another large table but we didn't touch it.

The rayburn is always on and heated the kitchen nicely (there's also a 'normal' electric oven and hob). My mum feels the cold but she was fine sitting at the rayburn end of the table while the kids played further down. We were worried (after reading the February review) that she would be cold during the day and we'd need to 'buy in' extra hours of heating - but in fact we needed to turn off the upstairs radiators and open the kitchen windows. The whole house was warm all day and all evening.

Because mum struggles to get around it was great to have a downstairs bedroom with en-suite, and then a separate downstairs toilet off the utility room. Not a glamorous 'favourite thing', but the kind of detail that makes a big difference for us.

My husband loved the vast living room and fire place. He built a fire most evenings. David (the owner) said there was no need to clear the woodburner after each fire, so there was no maintenance at all.

The kids swam every day, played games on the lawn (it, stuck in the mud, back to base etc) and it's the ideal house for hide and seek - so many rooms! The 7 and 9 year old even learned to play pool - with a bit of help from Grandad.

Local area is great for families with plenty of coastline to explore. Visits to Tintagel castle and the beaches never go amiss. Throw in a cream tea and bit of sunshine and you couldn't ask for more.

When we chatted with David on our arrival, and he reassured us (again) about the heating, he said that lots of people return again and again. I'm not surprised. We were asking about 2017 availability before we left.

(Worth noting that the pool and games room are 'next door' to Furlongs in another building. It's only 5m door to door, and they're open from about 8am to 8pm - which was absolutely fine for us.)

Beautiful, large and comfortable cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely two weeks at Furlongs. On our arrival, the owner David (who very usefully lives next door) greeted us and gave us a guided tour of the wonderfully converted barn, the games room and the pool.

The main lounge was huge and beautiful and the ample seating was incredibly comfortable - a great relief to my Mum especially who suffers from severe back pain. The downstairs ensuite was also ideal for my parents.

The upstairs second lounge (or snug as we named it) was also very comfortable and mainly frequented by our three boys. It afforded beautiful views over the countryside.

The large kitchen was very well stocked and the bedrooms all had good storage.

We all enjoyed the pool - a very good size - and had it been an outdoor pool, it wouldn't have been used as much due to the weather. Instead, we were in there every day. We also enjoyed the games room (even my Mum and Dad - aged 84 and 77!). I also think my snooker has improved (or maybe not!).

Furlongs is a fantastic base and we had many lazy days there but we'd also recommend the Tamar Otter and Wildlife Centre, Tamar Lakes (especially if you enjoy a good walk or angling) - both very close. Our favourite local beaches were Summerleaze and Widemouth. Bude is also a lovely little town to walk around (we had a very nice meal at the Brendon Arms for my Dad's birthday).

Lovely cottage, beautiful surroundings - a great holiday. Thoroughly recommend.l

Amazing place with stunning views. Great location.

  • 5 of 5

We were a family of seven ranging in age from 17 upwards and found the property spacious and comfortable. Plenty of room to all be together or to have your own space. The views from the property were amazing, especially the upstairs lounge. We used the pool, sauna and games room daily which was a real bonus. David, the owner was very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The only downside was that our week went too quickly - we all agreed it was probably the best place we had ever stayed and we will definitely be back soon.

David made our group of 8 feel welcome from the first moment and the cottage was amazing. We especially liked the cosy downstairs lounge with lovely fire (logs kindly provided) with the escape of a quieter upstairs lounge overlooking the distant fields. The swimming pool was used every day, warm, clean and safe for our children of 15, 8 and 7. Would highly recommend.

Home from Home

We have stayed at furlongs on several occasions at various times of the year. Every holiday has been relaxing and enjoyable due to the fantastic peaceful location. It's is in a prime location to explore Devon and Cornwall with beautiful coastal walks and several beaches around the area to explore if you don't want to travel too far. The local village has all the amenities you require. Furlongs is very clean and well maintained with everything you could possibly require. Furlongs is the most homely holiday home we have ever stayed in and we've stayed in several. The owner David is very welcoming and close at hand if any problems occur but he is not at all intrusive. He has on several occasions taken in and packed away our food delivery for us which is very much appreciated. The house is very nicely decorated with lots of creature comforts. There is ample space for myself my mum and my four children. The lounge downstairs is big enough for everyone with ample seating and an open fire for cold winter nights. There is another smaller lounge upstairs we call the snug!! With Tv and DVD player which we use most of the time, it is very cosy and has wonderful views of the country side. In the evenings you can see Bats flying past the window. The bedrooms are all spacious and cosy, a full size cot and high chair are provided. The kitchen is always warm and cosy with ample seating around a large table. The kitchen is very well equipped and there is also a utility room off the kitchen with a full sized washing machine, dishwasher and tumble dryer. Another bonus with Furlongs is that you have exclusive use of the heated swimming pool, the children swim everyday and love the pool and games room. We would fully recommend staying at Furlongs for families due to its prefect location and easy access to beaches etc...
