About the property

Villa Maestrali - Exclusive Location, in Beach Proximity

LOCATION: Villa Maestrali's location is idyllic on exclusive Kalamaki Peninsula, the villas here are well-spaced and scattered along the private road curving all around the peninsula, offering panoramic views of the Aegean. With very little traffic, the area is away from the tourist bustle, yet only minutes away from Skiathos town and all amenities.

PROPERTY: Enjoy perfect peace and tranquility on this large, private property. You will hear only the seagulls, frogs and the occasional owl. If you are lucky, you will come across the shy pheasant family living among the oleander, pine and olive trees.

VILLA MAESTRALI OUTSIDE: One of its most striking features are the two terraces, facing the sun-rise and sun-down respectively, with ample space for relaxing, enjoying meals and the amazing view over the bay. Both have tasteful garden furniture and sun beds, perfect for lazy days in the sun. The good-sized private pool is just a few steps from the large terrace, with a great view of Kolios Bay.

VILLA MAESTRALI INSIDE: The fitted open-plan kitchen with marble work-tops includes a dining area for 6. It is very well equipped for cooking fans and foodies, with fresh Mediterranean herbs such as rosemary, thyme, basil and oregano growing outside the kitchen door, next to the flower bed.

The attractively decorated, airy living room has comfortable seating for reading, watching the smart TV or listening to music. You will find a collection of books and DVDs for your entertainment.

Bedrooms: Three air-conditioned, twin bedrooms and two bathrooms can accommodate 6 people, as well as a baby, in the travel cot provided. Each one held in pleasant pastel colors, all bedrooms have terrace access with wonderful sea views to wake up to.

About Elisabeth Powers

Hi, my name is Elisabeth (and my husband Darcy on the photo) and I am one of three fortunate owners of Villa Maestrali, which is our family vacation home. After working as an actor and a translator while raising a family, currently my main focus is managing the rental of this magical place for our guests and helping them create wonderful memories. I now live in Berlin, Germany and travel to Skiathos at least twice a year for longer periods to look after our beautiful Villa Maestrali.

Elisabeth Powers purchased this villa in 1973

Why Elisabeth Powers chose Thessaly

As a German-American family, we travelled the world, living in many places until our parents discovered Skiathos Island in the early 70's and fell in love with it. They made friends with the handful of British ex-pats who had settled in the most beautiful area at the southern tip of the island, called Kalamaki Peninsula. This pine-wooded area had but one unpaved road with spectacular views all the way around it and single villas nestled into the landscape. Here they bought the hillside property with two exceptional views on the Aegean, which inspired our mother to design and build a villa. The L-shaped building around the large terrace was made to ensure complete privacy. In this spot, she liked the breeze or west wind, called Maistrali in Greek (like the French Mistral), and decided to name the house Villa Maestrali. At 16, I spent my first summer in Skiathos, fell under its spell, and have been coming back ever since. It is my second home. During the past 15 years, I have enjoyed decorating, renovating, maintaining and caring for Villa Maestrali and sharing it with happy guests.

A fantastic villa set in beautiful surroundings. We had seen the photos online but they could not compare with this holiday haven. For 6 mature ladies who had not seen each other for years and had travelled from Canada, USA & UK this was the perfect setting and the villa was exquisite. It is well equipped, clean, comfortable and the gardens and pool are well kept. The manager was very welcoming when we arrived and explained everything to us. Also, he was only a phone call away if we had any questions. The villa is secluded with wonderful views from every angle. Skiathos town is only a 10 minute drive away or you can get the bus as the bus stop (No.13) is at the bottom of the road leading down from the Villa. Whether lounging by the pool or sitting on the expansive patio it was the perfect holiday. We rented a minibus as there were 6 of us and it allowed us to explore this beautiful island. A ferry from Skiathos town port takes you on a 45 minute ride to Skepelos which is well worth your time. We would highly recommend this villa as an ideal getaway, you will not be disappointed.

Just returned from a wonderful two weeks at Villa Maestrali in Skiathos. Perfectly located property, and very well run with twice a week cleaning, pool cleaning, manager on call etc should there be a problem. Welcome pack provided was a real treat - thanks Elizabeth! Fantastic views in different directions from both the front and back of the property. Tip for guests - Vromolinos beach can be accessed with a short walk by following the track opposite the front gate, much faster than walking all the way down the main road.

Owner's Response: Dear James, Thank you very much for your kind words. It was a pleasure having you as our guests and we are all happy you enjoyed the welcome pack and most of all, that you had a very good time at Villa Maestrali. Thank you also for the tip on the fastest way to get to the nearest beach. We would be happy to welcome back any time. Hoping you enjoy the rest of your summer and have a good year, with kind regards, Elisabeth Powers

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : at 8 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : Taverna Stathis-Lia at 600 Metres Nearest Ferry : Skiathos Port at 7 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Taverna Stathis-Lia at 600 Metres Nearest Beach : Vromolimnos at 700 Metres Car: recommended

Coast/Beach:

The nearest sandy beach, "Vromolimnos" is a 3 minute drive or 10 minute walk away. The island offers over 60 crystal clear blue water coves and sandy beaches, all reachable within less than 25 minutes by car at the most.

Travel:

We recommend a rental car, although Skiathos has very effecient bus and taxi services. However, it is a 10 minute walk to our bus stop no. 13, at the bottom of the Kalamaki private road.

Distances:

Skiathos town as well as the airport are only 20 minutes away. Radio taxis and buses are also available.

Further Details:

Skiathos town offers many shops, cafés, a lively night life as well as several tavernas, the most excellent ones of which are listed in our "Villa Book", along with other useful information for a lovely vacation. The Island has sports activities for all tastes, tennis, horseback-riding and all water sports. For hikers, there are the famous Kastro ruins, with the endless steps leading to the chapel, as well as well kept monasteries that sell home made oil and spirits. For boat lovers, there is charter sailing and boats to tour the island and visit neighboring Alonissos Island with its marine park which protects monk-seals and two kinds of dolphins.

For your first evening, we offer to reserve a table at our favorite taverna "Taverna Stathis-Lia", just 2 minutes by car, with a complementary carafe of wine, with compliments of Villa Maestrali. The service and food are both excellent, in a beautiful setting with old olive trees and colorful flowers.

We also offer free shuttle (pick-up and bring home) to the lovely Mandraki Village Hotel Restaurant "Elias" in Koukounaries, so you do not have to worry about driving. Here you can also enjoy excellent cuisine, attentive and friendly service, in a tasteful and colorful setting.
