Overview

Property

Updated: 12-Oct-2016
Yewdale Cottage in St Davids, Pembrokeshire, Wales - Glorious location in 'city', just 10 minutes walk from Pembrokeshire Coast Path and close to beaches

Yewdale Cottage is a picturesque stone cottage - one of the oldest in St. David's - with beautiful views across the Cathedral and the ruined Bishop's Palace. St. David's is the smallest city in the UK, renowned for its spectacular coastal scenery, staggering cliffs, covered with flowers in May and June and nesting place for many varieties of birds. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path provides excellent walking round the peninsula. Numerous coves and harbours offer a wide range of activities, from boat trips to nearby Ramsey Island Bird Sanctuary, to diving, fishing and rock climbing. The beautiful, green flag beach at Whitesands provides excellent swimming and is overlooked by a nine-hole golf course. The sandy cove at Caerfai is only a mile away. A footpath opposite the cottage gives access in minutes to the Cathedral with its newly restored Cloisters and Refectory. The choir enjoys an international reputation and the Cathedral is a venue for regular concerts and recitals. From coasteering, surfing, inspiring hikes along the cliffs, wildlife-watching and fishing trips, to nearby woollen mills and top restaurants serving fresh seafood, St. David's offers everything you need for a wonderful holiday.

About the Owner

Janet's family come from St. David's and this is very much a family home. David is a market gardener and artist and Janet is a translator/teacher. We have three sons and three Jack Russells, so are very happy for you to bring your dogs. We all enjoy the walking, cycling, swimming, surfing and coasteering and the many other pleasures Pembrokeshire has to offer. We love music and the choral music in the Cathedral is sublime. There are also frequent concerts and annual music festivals in St. David's and Fishguard.

Facilities

From the Owner

We like being right in St. David's, just above the Cathedral and close to some wonderful eateries. We can walk to Whitesands, our favourite beach, in under half an hour and the delightful sandy cove of Caerfai is less than a mile away. Access to the actual coastal path at St. Non's is even closer. The peninsular is criss-crossed with quiet minor roads which are perfect for safe cycling.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: Yewdale Cottage is very much a family home and the furnishings and contents reflect our tastes. It is filled with many interesting paintings, maps, books - treasures we've picked gathered over years. Children are welcome. 2 dogs welcome FREE (there is an extra charge for more than 2 pets to cover extra cleaning costs). Full gas central heating with radiators in all rooms and a gas fire in the living room. Gas and electricity included. Outside: Access to the rear patio with washing line and barbecue area is via the back door from the kitchen or by gated side access from the road (ideal for dogs, bikes, pushchairs, etc). From the patio are three steps with sturdy handrails up to the rear garden which is mainly laid to lawn with shrub and perennial borders. The garden is very private with views over the Cathedral valley and to the rocky outcrops along the coast, such as Carn Llidi at Whitesands. There are garden tables and chairs - perfect for eating out on Summer evenings. The garden setting is truly idyllic! Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All beds have duvets. Bed linen is included. Towels are available on request (it's £6 per person for this service). The property is cleaned and beds made up before guests arrive. The caretaker can be contacted in the rare event of any problem arising. Other: Small entrance lobby with coat hooks, large mirror, umbrella stand and framed Ordnance Survey map of the area for walkers.
