Apartment in Burgau, Western Algarve (1514/AL) - Small Fishing Village - 5 Minute Walk to Beach - Close to Many Excellent Golf Courses

This spacious ground floor apartment is located in a small private condominium on the edge of Burgau village. The lounge and South terrace overlook the swimming pool. Internal areas in excess of 105 square metres complement the large outdoor terraces. Burgau beach is a five minute walk away - a beautiful sandy beach ideal for buckets and spades! There is an excellent beach bar with stunning views. Burgau is ideally situated for golfers - nearby are Boa Vista, Parque de Floresta, Palmares, Penina, etc., - these courses are fantastic and far more affordable than those in the Vilamoura and Vale de Lobo areas. The West coast is a surfers' paradise - and the beaches here - a twenty minute drive away - are stunningly beautiful. There are a couple of lively bars in Burgau and many restaurants. Lagos with it's many shops, cafes, restaurants and lovely marina is a fifteen minute drive away. Faro airport is a one hour drive away - alternatively there is a bus service.

About Louise Chamberlain

We are English, retired and now living full-time in Portugal. We purchased this apartment originally as a holiday home but then fell in love with the area so much we decided to relocate from England to Burgau permanently. We then designed our own villa and project managed the building works ourselves. During this busy time we lived in the apartment which is a ten minute walk away from where we live now. Having lived in the apartment ourselves for two years we can assure you it is very comfortable and convenient. We are on hand during the entire time of your holiday to offer any advice or assistance you may need. We now have guests who are in their fourth year, sixth year, seventh year and eighth year of holiday rental. Unique benefits - good environment for children who enjoy the heated (seasonal) swimming pool immediately in front of and in full view of the apartment.

What makes this apartment unique

Long term guests enjoy the benefit of central heating in the Winter months.(Charged as metered) Very useful for the colder evenings.

The veranda patio offers shade to read in the Summer months and sunshine warmth in the Winter months.

The sun is on the West terrace/garden from 0930 in the morning to 7.30 in the evening during mid Summer.

We can also make available - boogie boards - beach umbrella and sand mats, kids' buckets and spades. We can provide you with details of car hire companies in the area. Owners live in the village - we're here to help and advise if you need us. Outside: The apartment is located within a gated private complex of eighteen individually owned apartments to ground and first floor. This apartment is on the ground floor and has more than 70 square metres of private South and West facing terrace garden complete with sunbeds, tables, chairs and large built-in barbecue. The communal swimming pool is heated during the Summer months. Utility Room: A washer/dryer is installed in the kitchen area. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and beach towels are provided. The apartment is fully cleaned once a week - including a change of bed linen. There is an additional clean mid week with change of towels, bath mats, table cloths, tea-towels, etc. Other: There is a wide hallway between the kitchen and lounge areas and bedrooms - allowing for easy wheelchair access

Special interest holidays:

The West Coast - a twenty minute drive away - is Surfers' Paradise. Local Surf Schools offer 1, 3 and 5 day courses. They supply all necessary equipment and transport - picking you up at the apartment gates. There are also Wind Surfing and Diving Schools in the area - again, they provide all equipment and transport. There are beautiful cliff top walks - you can either amble by yourself or join a group - walking tours are organised both inland and on the coast. Walking inland is lovely too - especially in Spring at the time of the wild flowers. Horse riding in the hills inland - a fifteen minute drive away - is also lovely - peaceful - and again particularly enjoyable in Springtime when the wild flowers are really special. Formula One bike racing at the brand new Algarve Motor Park, Portimao - less than thirty minutes away. Here there is also now a brand new World Championship standard Go Kart track where adults can hire go-karts by the half-hour.


Burgau beach is sheltered - ideal for a family holiday.

The coastline here is beautiful and well worth exploring. Many beaches have restaurants serving good food at reasonable prices - and as you would expect fresh fish is widely available.


Faro airport is the nearest - a one hour straightforward drive along the A22 motorway - which is not at all like an English motorway - it has very little traffic except in August. Full directions to the apartment will be provided. As previously mentioned, we can provide details of car hire companies operating in this area. Alternatively there is a very good inexpensive bus service - we have used it ourselves and can highly recommend it.


Burgau Village - two minutes walk. Beach - five minutes walk. Lagos Town - fifteen minutes drive - or there is a local bus service - or taxi. Nearby - Sagres (the most South Westerly point of Europe - site of Henry the Navigator's school) - Silves (river trip and cork museum) - the beautiful West Coast with amazing beaches - Monchique (an interesting one hour drive inland -up in the hills) - many small villages worth a visit - sandy beaches and coves. Burgau is an ideal base for exploring.

Further Details:

Burgau has it's own Sports Centre - tennis, squash, table tennis and pool. Lagos is a very pleasant town to wander around - lots of small shops, restaurants, bars and a lovely marina - lots of history - a beautiful promenade. Many people consider Lagos to be the most likeable town on the Algarve coast. Details of all the following activities will be found in the information brochure at the apartment. All are within easy driving distance and some provide free buses with pick up at the apartment gate. Bowling. 10 Pin Bowling. Grotto Boat Trips. Dolphin Boat Trips. Horse Riding. The Big One - Water Park. Slide & Splash - Water Park. Sailing Trips. Sports Fishing. Diving & Kayak Centre. Childrens' Zoo. Zoomarine - an excellent day out - highly recommended - the dolphin show will be the highlight of your holiday!

Algarve Motor Park - watch racing - or hire a go-kart. In Burgau village itself are three good bars and many excellent restaurants - and everyone is very welcoming towards children. Eating out with children is not a problem here. Also, a two minute walk from the apartment in the opposite direction - away from the village - is an English pub. Run by an English couple - this is a sports bar with four TVs. It also has a separate dining area which is ideal for families - excellent food at very reasonable prices.
