About the property

2 bedroom/2 bathroom townhouse. Village centre yet peaceful location. Restaurants and shops only a few minutes stroll away

In the centre of historic Marseillan, our wonderful 'maison de village' occupies a corner position on a quiet street just a couple of minutes walk to the old port and the Etang de Thau. Our house is the perfect base for experiencing the local culture in the restaurants, cafes and shops along the harbour side and village centre, or visiting nearby "must sees" such as Bouziques, Beziers, Meze and Pezenas. Relax on the roof terrace soaking up the sun and enjoy the local "apero" Noilly Prat or perhaps a glass of the local Picpoul de Pinet - a perfect accompaniment to the famous oysters fresh from the Etang.

Tastefully and stylishly renovated with exposed beams and high quality fittings, the house offers spacious living space over 3 floors. On the ground floor there is a twin bedroom with full en-suite shower room. A cloakroom with wc and washbasin is also on the ground floor. Up on the first floor there is a large, sunny open plan living and dining area with a fully fitted kitchen. Facilities include air conditioning in all rooms, free Wifi, flat screen TV with UK and French satellite, DVD and CD players and i pod docking station. A beautiful spiral staircase leads up to a landing giving access to the master bedroom and to the sun terrace. The bedroom has a king size bed with luxury en-suite, exposed beams and views over the Marseillan rooftops. With its own direct access to the terrace, you can enjoy a leisurely breakfast under blue skies. The walled terrace is furnished with outdoor dining furniture, sun loungers and BBQ and provides total privacy for lazy afternoons in the sun. Just an easy stroll away, you can enjoy all the village has to offer.

Marseillan is a beautiful, unspoiled village standing at the entrance of the Canal du Midi. Described by the Times newspaper as "the St Tropez of the 60's" and loved by Rick Stein on his "French Odyssey" series, it offers a slower way of life, fabulous harbourside restaurants and some of the best seafood that France has to offer. As well as a couple of good supermarkets, there are boulangeries, butchers, deli, greengrocers plus many stalls selling the local oysters and mussels. There is an indoor market plus a full street market every Tuesday. With such a range of amazing local produce on offer, who could resist the chance to cook up some fabulous meals? But with more than 20 restaurants just a few minutes away, you need never cook at all. Many of the restaurants line the charming harbourside and specialise in the local Languedoc cuisine and wines. Further along the Etang is Bouzigues with its oyster and mussel beds. Visit the museum to learn more about the history of the Etang and the industry now and in times gone by. Sample the oysters direct from the producers at one of the many roadside stalls or at the restaurants nestling along the shores of the lake. Marseillan is a vibrant village with lots of festivals with music and fireworks, concerts and craft markets held throughout the summer.

Beach life - Marseillan is only 5 kms from miles of sandy beaches and the clean Mediterranean sea. Walk or cycle along the Etang and Canal du Midi or pop on the local bus and you are there. MARSEILLAN PLAGE is a family friendly beach resort with lots of activities on offer as well as cafes and bars. Further along the coast you will find CAP D'AGDE with its marina filled with yachts. Enjoy a meal at one of the many restaurants that line the promenade and watch the world go by. There is also a self contained naturist village with its own nudist beach on the outskirts of Cap D'Agde. The Etang is separated from the sea by a narrow spit of land, providing some 11 kilometres of unspoilt beach running all the way to neighbouring SETE. Built like Venice with a network of canals, Sete has a famous fish market where you see the daily catch landed from the Mediterranean or why not try their local delicacy "La Tielle".

Out and About - Picturesque vineyards grow right to the edge of the village. Hire a cycle (available in the village centre) and travel the beautiful country lanes to visit local wine cellars and sample some of the traditional wines. Cycle paths also run all the way to the beach and along the spit right into the heart of Sete. A visit to the Noilly Prat winery in the centre of Marseillan, is a must. Take the guided tour and then sample the Noilly Ambre. It is served in the local bars as an apero and can only be bought in the village. Further afield, visit the historic town of PEZANAS famous for its antiques, art galleries and artisan craft shops or perhaps BEZIERS with its 13th century Cathedral and remarkable set of 7 locks on the Canal du Midi or perhaps the famous Devils Bridge at St Guilhelm le Desert. The historic cities of Carcassonne, Montpellier and Nimes are all easily reachable and the mountains are only an hours drive away.

Activities - Karting, Petanque, Tennis, Horse Riding, Bird Watching, Golf and Paintball are just some of the activities available in the area. Kite surfing, dingy sailing and windsurfing are on offer in the Etang and the Marseillan Sailing Club offers courses to beginners and experienced sailors.

We (Martin & Veronica) live on our farm in Wales. After many holidays in France we found the beautiful village of Marseillan and fell in love with all it has to offer -stunning beaches, great restaurants and fabulous seafood right on the doorstep. We look forward to welcoming you to our beautiful house and hope you enjoy Marseillan as much as we do.

What makes this house unique

Our house offers the chance to sit back and relax on our sunny rooftop terrace whether to linger over a leisurely breakfast or an early evening apero. Spacious and light filled, it offers the perfect balance of peace and quiet yet with great restaurants, bars and, of course, the Etang du Thau just a short stroll away

Guestbook comments from the owner

The decor first caught my eye on line and it really did not disappoint. We were unlucky with the weather for a few days so we could not venture out much. The comfort and home from home surroundings made it all the more bearable. As you do, we read the visitors book , and every suggestion made by previous holiday makers eg microwave, egg cups, had all been purchased. It is clean, modern and beautiful and has everything you need. (Lisa 2012)

Superb location right in the centre of beautiful unspoilt market town. Tastefully renovated, spacious and airy. Numerous restaurants nearby. Clean well equipped accommodation. Owner extremely helpful. Fully recommended. (Dr Iredale July 2009).

We can see why Marseillan has become your french home from home. The house is perfect and has met our every need. The village is friendly and we've enjoyed meeting the locals and exploring the area. Thank you Martin and Ronnie, we loved it here! (Suzanne and Patrick - Aug 09).

Beautiful house in a wonderful location

  • 5 of 5

We loved this house. It is immaculate and has all you need. What makes it is the location in the narrow streets of a French village, listening to church bells and family life around you. Lovely bars around you and close to beautiful beaches in Agde. We loved it and hope to return. Martin was helpful and accommodating to deal with.

Our fourth visit to this area of France, we had a very enjoyable holiday in a lovely house which catered for every need. We thoroughly enjoyed the cold bottle of Picpoul on arrival - thank you! With two teenagers: wi-fi; air-con and their own personal space was a blessing. The house is very well-appointed and was a great base for our break. The roof terrace is compact but a great spot to relax and we made use of the BBQ on a couple of occasions. Parking outside was a little tricky, but we always found a space, just around the corner on Boulevard Pasteur - 5 minutes away at most.

The local Carrefour / Aldi are open 'til 8 on Sundays during the summer so this is handy if you are travelling. Marseillan does have every convenience though, so a car wouldn't be a necessity.

Martin was always quick to reply to queries and kindly let us stay longer on departure day as there was no turnaround of bookings at that time.

Our favourite break to-date in this area - would thoroughly recommend the town and the house!

Great property in the heart of Marseillan. A short walk to the market place, harbour and shops.

  • 4 of 5

We have been many times to Marseillan. This property has many modern features and we were very appreciative of the independently controlled air conditioning on all floors. It was equipped too with all appliances you would normally see at home. A great place.

The only downside was parking on the narrow streets as there was not always the possibility to park outside the property. After a couple of days we chose to park near to the harbour on a wider street about 1/4 mile away.

Clean and Comfortable

  • 5 of 5

This typical 3 story French house in a residential area has been carefully renovated and is a perfect base for exploring the area. The house was clean and inviting with good quality appliances. 2 excellent en-suite shower rooms. 2 flights of stairs to negotiate which would not suit everyone, particularly very young children and those who would have difficulty with stairs. The sun terrace is off the main bedroom at the top of the house, with BBQ so great for outdoor eating. Parking does have to be considered, it was difficult to park outside the house but we ended up parking opposite the post office in town which was only a short walk to the house, so really no problem and there other other places in the town where you can park. We loved the Port where you have the most glorious selection of resturants, Oysters and Mussels are a dream. It's worth taking a trip to Marseillan Plage around 6kms away, we walked and it was worth it, although it is a very quick trip in the car and parking is easy. Lots of places to visit Sete - La Grande-Motte - Agde Canal du Midi and much more. We had a wonderful time, enjoyed the unspoilt town and the Tuesday market. We ate great food, and drank good local wine. Martin is a great host.

Very happy with our choice of holiday property.

  • 5 of 5

We have not stayed at Martin's house before and so had some of the usual concerns about staying somewhere new. However, our concerns were needless as the property lived up to it's description and we very much enjoyed our stay through the first 2 weeks of October. The property is well looked after, clean, tidy and comfortable with 2 very good showers and plenty of hot water. The open plan kitchen/living room is very practical and offers all you would need whilst being light and airy as well having unlimited Wi-Fi and satellite television which was an added bonus on a few evenings spent in.

It is ideally situated to allow very easy access to shops, bars, restaurants, cafes, the harbour etc. It was great to be able to do this with a short stroll rather than having to get in a car. Marseillan is a lovely town, with plenty to offer and is within easy reach of plenty of other interesting villages and towns as well as also being just a short drive to Beziers airport.

All in all we had a lovely holiday, no complaints or any issues with the property and would be vey happy to stay again as well as recommend it to friends.

Well appointed and stylish townhouse

  • 5 of 5

We had a very good holiday in a sunny and relaxed atmosphere in a small French holiday village. The town of Marseillan is well catered with shops and restaurants and within easy reach of a variety of beaches, historic towns and a wide range of the French Countryside

The accommodation is well kept, clean and tidy with up to date fittings and fixtures. The stairs to the property are steep and challenging for our elderly father who came with us.

We really enjoyed our stay
