Just wanted to say how much we enjoyed staying in your lovely house at Salema. It was as comfortable, well equipped, and well looked after as we remembered from our previous stay, and of the course the fabulous location. What we really like here is the layout of the house. The open plan living area/kitchen, opening onto the terrace, worked really well for us and that view makes mealtimes feel really special! The pool being so close to the house is of course a massive hit with the kids. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend your place, and the Salema area in general with its gorgeous quiet beaches, to anyone looking for high quality accom in an unspoilt part of the Algarve. Spectacular Property

I am saddened to read the previous review questioning the credibility of the owner. This property is magnificent and Ruth was fantastic in every aspect of the booking. We have stayed in four different villas at the View over the last 6 years and this was truly the best so much so that we are booked again for October and will be hoping to book again already for next year. The location is amazing with a breathtaking view. I don't need to win the lottery when I know that Ruth's balcony with 'that' view is waiting for me. The house is beautifully maintained and we were very pleasantly surprised to have bedding and towels changed mid way through a one week stay. No one could leave this property with anything but very fond memories. First class. Thank you Ruth

Nice location, not credible owner.

I made a booking for 5 nights 13-18 May. I paid everything in advance: both the 10% deposit (back in December) and all the remaining balance (May/5). I used a bank transfer as the payment method since the owner doesn't accept PayPal or credit card (those by the way allow immediate confirmation and faster transfer of funds).

I explained that bank transfers take time and on top of that there was a bank holiday in Belgium hence the delay was longer. I also sent her a bank transfer confirmation.

4 days before my planned holidays the owner cancelled the booking with no reasonable explanation. After that she returned me only 90% of what I paid. She refused to return the 10% deposit even if this was her sole decision to terminate this booking.

Moreover I didn't received any rental agreement from the owner. The booking form was lacking basic elements a proper contract should have (not even the name of the owner).

I lost 10% of my money, had a nightmare to book an alternative house last minute. Fortunately another owner from Owners Direct was fully credible and eventually I spent a few nice holiday days in the very same estate in Salema.

"The View" in Salema is a really nice place to stay! However this owner is not credible.

Owner's Response: Despite many reminders this traveller delayed paying the 90% balance. He was due to arrive on 13 May and by midday on 9 May the payment had not been received and so reluctantly I cancelled his booking. Payment terms are clearly explained on the website and the Booking Form: 10% on booking, which is non-refundable, with the balance due 8 weeks before date of arrival. The bank transfer document he sent me was un-dated. When I finally received his payment into my account I immediately returned it to him. The Booking Form serves as a contract and does show my name and address and the address of the property. I have let this property for 7 years with many guests returning several times, and have only received positive feedback.

Spectacular Town House

We were completely blown away whe we arrived and found the house even more beautiful and comfortable than the pictures implied. Every morning the view amazed us again. The weather was cool but sunny and we even got into the pool a couple of times. We ate on the deck whenever possible. The restaurants in Salema were very good and we found everything we needed at the small grocery store. The beach was spectacular. We also visited many beaches in the area and found each one to be equally gorgeous. I can't wait to come back and spend a much longer time at "The View". Thank you Ruth.

Just what the doctor ordered!

This apartment is just lovely ~ up on the hill over-looking the beautiful village of Salema. It is fully equipped ( although the welcome pack could do with updating to help get to know the area better ), clean, spacious and has fantastic views ~ watching the sunrise over the water & seeing the fisherman out to sea was our favourite. An easy ( if steep ) walk into the village, with its clean, sandy beach, friendly locals & nice eateries. The whole area is rather attractive, lots of lovely little beaches & much less touristy than areas closer to the airport, it's a great place to explore further out to the West coast too. We're counting the days until we can book our next visit.... :)

Note : we went early in the season so the area was very quiet ( but this was absolutely fine with us! ) & there were enough places open for us to eat & drink well but be prepared for the occasional chilly wind.

A great place to relax and enjoy the Algarve

What a fabulous place to stay. The accommodation is first class with great facilities and an amazing balcony and a sun terrace - both of which have great views over Salema beach. We went early March and it was very quiet but Salema still had a few bars and restaurants open which gave a good range of food. It was a really good base to visit the sights of the Algarve - being a short drive from Lagos, Vila de Bispo and Sagres. The beach in Salema and the cliff top walks were lovely too. I'd definitely recommend this for a break as a couple or with a young family.

Peaceful resort with fabulous views

This is a quiet development in a small resort - there is everything you need in the well equipped house including BBq and tools.There are small supermarkets in the village with a limited range the bigger supermarket is about 3km away. The village has a great range of restaurants and bars - you may need to book especially on a Monday when many restaurants are closed. There is easy access to the rest of the Algarve and further inland. We will definitely be returning for more R&R!

Beautiful design, well built and finished to a high standard. The resort is small (55 houses), made to a high standard and well-maintained.

Activity and Interests

Car: recommended

Coast/Beach:

Five minutes walk to Salema beach. Lots of other unspoilt beaches within a short car ride - Burgau, Praia da Luz and other more quiet beaches each with a beach bar and toilet facilities along the coast to the west. Dramatic wide sandy beaches with big rolling waves coming in from the Atlantic 20 minutes drive on the west coast, very popular with surfers. Surf school available. Beautiful scenic walks along the coastal paths - we have even seen dolphins!

Travel:

An easy drive along the motorway from Faro airport - about an hour. Car not needed in Salema, but useful to visit the interesting surrounding area.

Distances:

20 minutes drive to historic town of Lagos with its marina, boat trips, dolphin safari, fish market, restaurants and night-life. Sagres 15 minutes drive to the west and Cap Saint Vincent -most westerly point in Europe. Water parks 40 minutes drive away.

Further Details:

Small supermarket five minutes walk from The View, larger supermarket and petrol station at Budens, five minutes by car. AL Lodging License request registered with the authorities.
