About the property

Farmhouse St. Pierre de Frugie, Nr. La Coquille Beautifully Restored, Peaceful Location, Private Grounds

The farmhouse is set in 7 acres of meadows and woodland and is the perfect choice for those seeking peace and tranquility. The 10m by 5m swimming pool is for the exclusive use of guests and is completely private. It is situated in the south facing back garden, well placed to enjoy sun all day whilst relaxing in the peaceful surroundings with plenty of outside eating areas, in sun or in shade. There is a large lawn area and neighbouring meadow and woods to explore. At the front of the farmhouse there are ample shady spots to park several cars. This is an ideal location for those who enjoy nature in unspoilt surroundings. You can play football in the garden, read in the shade or sit under the parasols with a drink overlooking the pool. There is a rich variety of flora and fauna - many different birds, toads, salamanders, lizards, wild deer and rabbits. The Sweet Chestnut tree has a resident Green Woodpecker, and the Blue tits nest in the dry stone wall by the outdoor dining table.

About Carolyn Legg

We live in the UK and have 2 grown up children. We feel we provide a quality service and we pride ourselves on our rate of re-visiting holidaymakers.

We use the property as our own holiday home, therefore it is well-appointed and comfortable; we think, a cut above the rest.

Carolyn Legg purchased this farmhouse in 2005

Why Carolyn Legg chose Saint-Pierre-de-Frugie

We bought in the Perigord Vert because it is a beautiful part of France and not ruined by tourism. English is not as widely spoken in the area which makes it more 'authentically French'.

It has such easy access - only 40 minutes of non-motorway driving from Calais.

It is in the heart of the countryside, secluded but not isolated. Supermarkets are within 5kms either direction.

What makes this farmhouse unique

When we rent a property for a holiday we are always concerned that the photos have been taken in such a way as to avoid the pylon, the pig farm, the house overlooking the garden etc.

You can be assured with this property that we have no direct neighbours, no surprises, and no owners on site watching what you are up to.

What you see is what you get.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"We are going back for the 3rd time this summer. Fab pool. Great log fire place both in kitchen and living room. Place is massive so would be great for large families. Kitchen equipment is modern and spotless. Owners are great at communicating by e-mail making the whole booking issue stress less. Davies family, August 2008.

"This is the best place ever to chill out. No traffic-noise, just bird-song in abundance. We have swanned about the pool basking in the sunshine, sipping chilled white wine! The Chateau at Jumilhac was a sight for sore eyes - what a thing of beauty! A good time was had by all." The Loudon family, July 2009

"Thank you - we all had a lovely holiday at your farmhouse (family members coming and going but all 10 of us together for 4 days of the holiday) and thoroughly enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the setting. It is a lovely house in a beautiful setting with refreshing pool ..... we relived quite a few memories of the area and it was interesting to see how much things and places had changed. We have a lovely night-time photograph of the Chateau Montbrun from the past which adorns our hallway and it was lovely to revisit this place again this time. We also managed two canoe party trips - one on the Vezere which was beautifully scenic and calm, and one at Aixe sur Vienne where the river fought back and one had to concentrate rather more on staying upright - great fun! Shopping at the Maison de la Porcelaine offered far too much choice but the tour proved fascinating and I was pleased to have plenty of opportunities to practice my French speaking." Carr family, July 2009

"Our 3rd visit and as fabulous as ever! Weather absolutely glorious and house as welcoming and cosy as usual. Saw deer and woody-woodpecker as well as Buzzards. The best and most relaxing holiday ever! We will be back again no doubt! Thanks Aillac!" T Davies, Aug 2009

"We visited the caves at Villars and the velo-rail at Corgnac amongst other things. Those were the kids favourites. Visited Perigueux too - lovely! Great place to relax - lots of lovely walks around. June - but we used the pool too, the kids loved it. We may visit again, beautiful location." Kemp family, June 2010

"The weather has been beautiful and we have really enjoyed the peace. Loved visiting Brantome which is surrounded by a river, and the Chateau at Hautefort is well worth a trip. Had excellent food at Les Voyageurs in La Coquille. We have had a wonderful holiday - just what we needed!" Eckersley, July 2010

"Lovely chill-out time as always. Canoeing for Montignac to St. Leon - fabulous! T Davies, Aug 2010

"What a great week we have all had. Beautiful house and amazing weather. We have had a very lazy week; eating, drinking, sunbathing, swimming. The kids will miss Mr Donkey over the road and the garden owl." The Murphy family, August 2010

"Having stayed in France many times over 25 years we found this to be a truly exceptional property."

We keep returning because there is no where better

  • 5 of 5

We are going back for the 3rd time this summer. We have been in both October and August before. Great for the dog, Fab pool. Great log fire place both in kitchen and living room.BBCue equipment great lots of suntraps with comfy garden furniture. Place is massive so would be great for large families and there's even a play station with loads of games and kids videos etc -not that you'll ever need them.

There are things to play with in the pool and the kitchen equipment is modern and spotless.

The bed is massive and lovely and there is a cinema sized TV with Satellite TV with all the usual British channels if you like a bit of a TV chill after a hard day of luxuriating. There is a great Intermarche in Chalus about 5mins drive away. Owners are great at communicating by e-mail making the whole booking issur stressless. It may seem expensive but you get what you pay for!

All expectations exceeded - a lovely property

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a wonderful 2 week family (6 adults and a baby) holiday in this farmhouse. The property was very spacious, well furnished and extremely comfortable. The facilities are excellent - lovely pool, Wi-Fi, UK TV, dishwasher, etc. We found it best to alternate our days between exploring the area and lazing around the pool, which really worked well for us.

The couple who manage the house for the owner are very friendly and informative. They were there to welcome us on our arrival and change the bedding and towels half way through our fortnight.

We like to visit a different part of France each holiday and will probably have a hard time finding a property for next year that measures up to this one.

A spacious, well equipped country farmhouse.

  • 5 of 5

We (two families with four children aged 3-10) spent a week at Aillac Farmhouse in late August 2015. It was a lovely week. The farmhouse is very spacious and very comfortably furnished. There is ample seating for everyone in the inside and outside living and eating areas. The kitchen is very well equipped with plenty of crockery and cutlery etc. The bathrooms are modern and there was always plenty of hot water. The towels were large and fluffy and the beds comfortable.

We were greeted by an English house keeper and made to feel very welcome.

The house is situated in beautiful, peaceful countryside. There is a play park nearby and a choice of supermarkets and small towns a short drive away. We also visited Perigueux, Brantome and the caves of the Vézère valley.

If there was one thing I could change, it would be the pool. As it is unheated and the weather was cool when we arrived, it was very cold. By the middle of the week, once the temperature outside was back up to the late 20's and into the 30's, we couldn't get the children out of it!

A wonderful place to stay.

Great for a "get away from it all" holiday

  • 5 of 5

The farmhouse could not be better for peaceful, relaxing holiday. The house is huge and will easily cater for large families - the pool is sure to be the main attraction for the kids. The house provides everything we were looking for in a "get away from it all" break with some great local towns and villages to visit. If you are wedded to your tablet/ phone be aware signal is patchy and there is no wi-fi (there is free wi-fi at McDonalds in Aixe-sur-Vienne - 20 minutes away) should you feel the need - there is a great supermarket next to it.

We had a great time and would not hesitate to return.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for your kind comments, the property is indeed a great "away from it all" property. We usually find the 3G coverage is ok. We did look into broadband this year but the unfortunately the option was not available to us. There is wifi at the local bar in St Pierre de Frugie too if you don't want to drive to Aixe.

We've recently returned from a fantastic stay at Aillac. We enjoyed every minute. The farmhouse is in a great position, very secluded but not remote with several supermarkets super market just 10 minutes drive away. The house is delightful and has such a homely feel that you can't help but completely relax! We definitely recommend the farmhouse and will most certainly be returning. We have recommended it to all of our friend who need a relaxing place to stay.

So Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

We had the most fantastic week at this beautiful farmhouse. It is well equipped and comfortable for our group of 8. No near neighbours to disturb with the kids making noise in the pool.

The owner was very accommodating and made the booking process very easy.

We thoroughly recommend it and will definitely be back!
