Overview

Property

Updated: 01-Nov-2016
Holiday Cottage in Padstow, Cornwall, England, UK - Near Many Sandy Beaches, Ample Off Road Parking

Round and about 2 miles from School Cottage lies the picturesque medieval fishing port of Padstow. The unspoilt town has many pubs and restaurants nestled in it warren of narrow streets and alleys, including Rick Stein's famous seafood restaurant. There are many attractions including sailing, tennis, horse riding, deep sea fishing, speed boat rides, bicycle hire and wind surfing. The golden sands of Harlyn bay are close by and this beach is one of the safest for children. There are also 6 other bays within a 5 mile radius. The golf club at Trevose head has three courses, a championship 18, a short and a long 9 hole course. The numerous cliff walks and panoramic views around this area are truly magnificent. Inside there is a light and airy feel, with a wood burning stove, chapel-style roof beams and lovely soft furnishings and antiques which add to the overall charm. The accommodation and furnishings are for a maximum of 4 people. All who stay leave enthusiastic feedback. Look at owners web pages at www.schoolcottage.net for more information

About the Owner

My Mother and Father took me and my sister to Cornwall as children, we fell in love with the beaches, cliffs and sea from a very young age and now I love to take my children and watch their delight at discovering the same magic that Cornwall can offer. I live in Wiltshire with my wife and 2 children. My wife and I both work, but spend most of our holidays in Cornwall, where we have made many friends over the years. For us Cornwall offers so much, the sometimes rough and windy days struggling along the cliff tops and watching the vast waves and then the sun kissed, hot beach days full of digging sand castles, rock pooling, swimming and surfing. Sun sensation on your skin, and the mild, good aches from all the surfing and swimming, relaxing with a glass of wine...that's Cornwall! Fabulous Cornish Retreat - beautiful cottage

  • 5 of 5

This was our third trip to School Cottage and it was as amazing as ever. The cottage had been extended and a further room and a fabulous new wet room / shower room added. This is one of the best equipped cottages we've stayed in, the owner George is very helpful - calling us on arrival to check everything was OK. You need a car as the cottage is a mile or so from Padstow and Wadebridge though you can walk along the creek to either but it's quite a tough walk. There's also now a bistro in the The Old Mill at the bottom of the village, which you can walk to for a drink or very nice (reasonably priced) meal. Finally, ideal spot to visit all 7 local beaches, Heligan and 25 minutes from the Eden Project and St Austell. Definitely recommend this for couples like us or families.

School Cottage

  • 4 of 5

Customer service was brilliant and he seemed very keen for us to enjoy our holiday phoning on our first day to check that all was well. The house was obviously a much loved holiday home. There were one or two small problems that we had been warned about before we went such as flushing the toilet to make the shower water drain away and the access into the property was at such a gradient to make the car ground a little every time you went in and out of the drive. The back door was sticking very badly due to the wet weather. School cottage is a very cosy and quaint place to stay although if you go in the winter you need to buy logs for the log burner, you do pay a little extra for central heating but this is reasonable. The cottage was very clean and well equipped. We had a great holiday in a lovely area of Cornwall. There are a lot of good restaurants and pubs that are varying in price and we would certainly go back to school cottage.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your great feed back, the sticky back door and car park gradient are been fixed this winter. The wet room shower, continues to puzzle us, we have had breather valves fitted and all we can think of now is that if the shower is not used regularly a vacuum builds up in pipes which seem to go once the loo is flushed, how strange is that! Look forward to welcoming you again.

Location

From the Owner

I spent most of my childhood holidays in Cornwall. I always wanted to buy a home there and was lucky enough to find School Cottage for sale in 1984. It used to be the Little Petherick Village chapel and school a long time earlier. It is a lovely old building with many of the original features. Over the years many updates and refurbishments have taken place. It is now a much loved family retreat, close to many beaches and the wonderful port of Padstow.
