Location

From the Owner

Fawcett Mill while only 2 miles from junction 38 of the M6, and therefore very easy to get to, sits in a little valley which makes it feel like its in a world of its own. A stream tinkles past the front from the waterall next door. The cottage overlooks the Howgill Mountains to the south which must be some of the quietest walking hills around. The local village of Orton is a real village community, with school, tearoom, pub, post office/shop and even a very special chocolatier chocolate factory. Our local farmer neighbour, Steve, Barbara and Michael Dunning, just down the hill, offer unbelievably tasty beef, lamb and sausages from their own sheep and cattle.

The nearest main line station is Oxenholme (about a mile outside Kendal) which is on the West Coast high speed main line between London Euston and Glasgow with most trains stopping. If its beef, lamb or sausages you are after...look no further! The farm at the bottom of the hill from Fawcett Mill, Raisgill Hall, is owned and run by Steve and Barbara Dunning and they can offer you stunning beef and lamb from their own herds. They'll welcome you with open arms...even show the kids the lambs, if any around, and direct you to to anything you are looking for. They are farmers who think holiday makers are good for their community!

Facilities

From the Owner

Fawcett Mill is a real reunion and 'Get Together' place for family and friends events. A log burning range in the dining room and a log burning stove in the lounge add real atmosphere. The smaller kitchen often gets turned into the 'bar'. A small sauna offers comfort from the winter chill. Outside there is a large South American style BBQ, benches and parasols for those barmy summer evenings, sitting, eating and chatting on the patios overlooking the stream below. The surrounding countryside is real walking country with the coast to coast walk actually passing through Orton Village. Sitting midway between the lakes and the Dales National Parks provides easy access to trips to either.
