Country Cottage With Garden

Updated: 04-Nov-2016
Cottage in Peaceful Setting Within Easy Reach Of Local Village Facilities

'Pen Ar Roz' is a pretty, traditional cottage set in its own grounds. There is a large secluded garden with views over the surrounding countryside and private parking alongside. There is a patio and large private garden. A BBQ is provided. It is within walking distance of the local village with a bar tabac where some food supplies may be purchased and another bar. Two bikes are provided for guests. There is a pretty local park with small lake, flowering shrubs and a trim track for the more energetic. It is well situated for exploring both central and coastal Brittany. It is a secluded cottage with little passing traffic as there is only the owner's property beyond.

About the Owner

Martyn and Ronnie have lived in Brittany since 2005 and absolutely love the area and the lifestyle. Pen Ar Roz is an 8 hectare holding which is home to quite a menagerie. We have two dogs - Lulu, a Great Dane and Scooter, a Shitzu/Papillion (who thinks she is Lulu's mother!). We also have two cats, Gizmo and Gatsby, a Cacatoes Rosalbin, Corky, an aviary, chickens and sheep. We love our garden which has a series of ponds and some unique follies. (Martyn is a project person - never bored!) We mustn't forget Okalin - Ronnie's horse - a great character!! We have a lovely group of friends, both English and French, whose numbers have increased year on year by our returning guests!

Guestbook comments from the owner

"Have had a wonderful week at this well equipped and very comfortable cottage. Martyn and Ronnie very friendly and hospitable. The loudest noise was the birdsong and the hot tub is just the icing on the cake!"

"We have had a lovely time. The cottage is fantastic (the web site photos don't do it justice.) The weather was perfect enabling us to explore lots of the surrounding area. Beautiful scenery, scrummy food and wine. Ronnie and Martyn were very friendly and welcoming, as was Scooter! Thank you very much."

"Had the most fantastic holiday, everything and much more than we could ever have wished for. Cottage is beautiful and we will definitely return here."

"Thanks for an enjoyable holiday in your beautiful gite - not so much a gite- more a lovely home. We will have good memories of Ronnie and Martyn and their four legged family. Also of Finistere- the end of the world? Have a wonderful Bastille Day party - sorry we shall miss it!"

Fantastic Cottage

  • 5 of 5

The owners of this exceptionally well equipped and spotlessly clean cottage are very welcoming but never intrusive. Scenic views surround the cottage. A pretty and private garden for lazing or barbeques. The cottage itself is lovely with an enormous fireplace for winter stays. Impossible to find anything not to like. If we could give Ronnie and Martyn more stars than 5, we would do so. PERFCT.

Delightful cottage with space, air and light. Great place for having a quite time but also being comfortable.

Owners were very good at being there when we wanted to talk to them but absent when we wanted to be alone.

Accurately described, clean and well maintained.

Only negative - and a minor point- was the twisting staircase to the bedroom. I only mention that so that I can list a negative point. Everything else is very positive.

Peace and quiet

  • 4 of 5

We spent a perfect week at this charming and very comfortable cottage. Our hosts were generous, friendly and fascinating including their 2 dogs, Lulu and Scooter. This was an area of Brittany new to us and we loved the quiet roads, rural surroundings and close proximity to the beautiful Nantes/Brest canal where we rode our bikes. A soak in the hot tub later with a glass of chilled white wine in our lovely private garden was just perfect. You can get to very nice beaches although there is a bit of a drive, but we only did this when it was too hot to cycle, finding the villages and towns nearby offered us plenty to see. We would wholeheartedly recommend this property and area.

Little French Gem

  • 5 of 5

The most charming cottage hidden away in the French country side. Our hosts Martyn and Ronnie were extremely warm and welcoming. French wine and goodies awaited us on our arrival and Martyn kept the wood pile well stocked for the wood stove. The cottage was clean and well maintained. We had a marvelous time exploring the beautiful Brittany Coast and were sorry to have to leave. We would highly recommend this property.

From the Owner

We chose Pen Ar Roz because it is a property with land surrounding it. We particularly wanted a house that stood on its own rather than in a village. It is in the heart of Finistere with some great walking and horse riding tracks on the doorstep.

From the Owner

We enjoy the peace and tranquillity of Pen Ar Roz. Ronnie loves horse riding and we both enjoy walking the dogs. The property had little or no garden when we bought it and it has given us the opportunity to evolve a great living space and indulge in our passion for ponds and gardens.
