This is our most popular gite. It has a big sunny lounge with huge squashy sofas, a gorgeous private patio and direct access to our fabulous pool. We have done our best to offer you a high standard of self catering accommodation, with a wood burner stove, comfy sofas and some antiques in the lounge, together with a well appointed kitchen and recently renovated bathroom downstairs. There are high ceilings and impressive beams, and La Noix faces south, so it is filled with sunshine. Upstairs you will find a double bedroom with an antique French sleigh bed, plus a twin bedroom and a single bedroom. La Noix has a lovely private patio area with access to the heated pool and large secluded garden. It retains its unique character and historic charm combined with all modern conveniences to ensure your holiday is a very special one.
We fell in love with Les Arbres as soon as we discovered it in 2008. Our three gites are full of character, and together with the huge garden and beautifully situated pool, we could see at once that it would be perfect for family holidays. The gites, garden and pool are all situated on one side of a chemin rurale – a quiet cul de sac. Our home is opposite, so we are close at hand if you need us, but equally you are free to enjoy your holiday in privacy. The gites are stone built in the traditional local style and the rural landscape of the Perigord Limousin forms the stunning backdrop. We have made lots of improvements since we bought Les Arbres, including fresh new bathrooms, well equipped kitchens, top quality bed linen and towels, and cosy wood burners for autumn evenings. If you simply want to laze around, our huge garden is fully fenced so the kids can’t escape. The heated swimming pool has a fully approved safety fence and plenty sun loungers. Facing south, it catches the sun all day, and we clean it every morning for super sparkly water. There are swings, a proper boules court, table tennis, kids campfire and badminton. Each gite has its own private patio with BBQ, and there is a huge picnic table if you want to socialise. We have a good range of well-maintained bikes, and storage space if you bring your own. The area is fabulous for cycling, with well-maintained roads where it’s rare to see a car and a beautiful landscape of hills, forests and lakes. We can provide maps and even arrange a ride with the Piegut Cycle Club, which has up to two outings a week of 50-60km. Set in the Perigord Limousin Regional Nature Park our area is often described as “la France profonde” or “deep France.” Life has changed little for centuries and the culture is strongly rural and seasonal. We can tell you about secret and enchanted places to cycle, explore and swim, summer night markets where you can party like a local, vide-greniers antique markets where you can bag a bargain, plus charming village fetes where you can sit with friendly villagers and eat a communal meal. Along with quaint villages, historic towns, typical street markets, fairytale chateaux, river and lake canoeing, tree climbing, star gazing, bird and animal spotting, and fabulous local restaurants, you’ll find so much to do that you’ll have to return. Eight years on and having welcomed many visitors, settling here at Les Arbres has been the best decision we have ever made. But don’t just take our word for it; over the years we have consistently received wonderful reviews and many of our guests return year after year, often booking their next visit before they even leave. One guest described Les Arbres as “a magical, peaceful place” and an eight year old visitor shouted “I’m in heaven!” on arrival. This is your chance to experience the France that time forgot and create your own happy holiday memories.
Thank you for visiting our Owners Direct pages. We fell in love with France and the French lifestyle during lots of happy holidays and spent several years looking for our ideal home here. We always aimed to retire early to start a new life, and buying Les Arbres has helped us to achieve that dream. The three gites were already rented out successfully when we purchased the property, and we have made lots of improvements since then. We took early retirement to live here full time in 2011, and now enjoy meeting all our guests, many of whom re-book for the following year. Our house is just across the lane, so we are on hand if you need any help booking a restaurant or anything else. Equally we respect your privacy to enjoy your family holiday. Gill and Pat Connors.
Gill Connors purchased this cottage in 2008
This area of the Dordogne has lots going for it but is much less busy than other parts. We are situated in the Perigord Limousin Nature Park, so expect unspoilt countryside, lakes, forests of pine and nut trees, farms, heath and Limousin cattle. There is lots of wildlife including orchids and other wild flowers, deer, red squirrels, wild boar, buzzards, protected lizards and salamanders to mention a few. We love the slow pace of life, and although it takes a while to get used to the shops closing at lunchtime for two hours, you soon learn to do the same and enjoy lunch at one of the many good restaurants. Although we are still learning French, the people round here are friendly and helpful. Despite the quiet location there is lots to do; have a look at our website for ideas!
We loved Les Arbres as soon as we saw it and knew that it would be a great holiday location for families. The gites are traditional in appearance, but have modern bathrooms and kitchens and carefully chosen quality furniture throughout. We love making improvements so that holidays are as enjoyable as possible, and have installed wood burner stoves for chilly Autumn and Spring evenings, new hi-fis with iPod/MP3 connections, TV/DVDs, reliable internet access, bikes, pool heating, free pool towels and new quality linen, pillows and duvets. We are sure you can tell that we love Les Arbres and we think that you will as well - why not visit us and find out? Or follow us on Facebook.
Thank you so much for making us welcome, making your gite seem like a home and for your advice and friendship. This isn't a gite business - it's a way of life and you clearly love what you do. Perfect!

Pretty, well appointed gîte, which was very clean and comfortable. Lovely shared pool in large, communal garden which was kept spotlessly clean and is securely fenced.
The bathroom has a fab, powerful shower and plenty of good quality towels (hand, bath and pool) are supplied.
The living area is spacious with fabulous, squishy sofas. Upstairs, the bedrooms are cosy (as reflected in the photos) but that did not matter as we spent most of our time outdoors. The beds were very comfortable with good quality linen. Fans were provided, which were invaluable for ensuring a good nights sleep as it was very warm at night.
There is wifi in the gîte and books, DVDs and a TV with UK channels are all available - as well as garden games and board games.
The photos and description on the website are accurate.
The owners were friendly, welcoming but discreet. They provide a good selection of local information and are on hand to assist with additional information, booking assistance etc.
The gîte is situated in a peaceful, quiet area and there are plenty of things to do locally (fabulous markets, walks, swimming lakes, canoeing, cycling) and the owners also provide a selection of bikes to borrow - bring your own cycling helmets.
We particularly enjoyed the canoeing from Brantôme, the market at Piégut and the lake at St Èstephe.
We had a great holiday and have no hesitation in recommending this holiday/property - we are considering returning ourselves.
What can I say what a wonderful place to have a holiday. The gite was beautiful, we stayed in La Noix and it was perfect for our family of 4. It was clean and homely. The garden and pool were amazing! Kept the kids amused for ages! And we certainly had a giggle testing out the bikes that Gill and Pat have provided :-).
Gill and Pat couldn't have been better hosts, made us feel so welcome and were always on hand to help us if we needed it.
There is loads of stuff to do in the surrounding area including markets and very pretty villages/ towns to look around and all are within easy driving distance, again Gill and Pat were really helpful and gave us directions to anywhere we needed.
There are some fab places to eat near by which serve really good food, we were a little limited as we have 2 young...fussy children but most restaurants were brilliant and catered for the younger customer :-).
There is even stuff to do if the weather isn't fab we went to visit the ex police horses and if you don't mind a bit of a drive there is a brilliant indoor swimming pool which the kids loved!
Overall we had a wonderful holiday and we will be booking our trip for 2017!
Thank you so much Gill and Pat :-)
La Noix was our perfect base for a perfect family retreat! I long to go back! The property itself was really clean & well presented. Crisp, clean, white sheets made the bedrooms stand out & the living space was a great size although we hardly spent any time inside! There were some DVD's which the kids watched a couple over lunchtimes while cooling down. Good sized kitchen and nice shower room. We loved the patio area at the side of the Gite with the chimney BBQ which was used LOTS! The grounds were fantastic & well maintained. The kids (7&9) had plenty to keep them entertained when they weren't either in the pool or sleeping! The swimming pool was a great temperature, well looked after and always nice & clean. We enjoyed many an evening sitting round the campfire or under the fairy lights by the centre table with the other couples who were with us in the other Gites. Gill & Pat made it very easy for us to enjoy the stay with just the right level of presence by hosts. Arranging a portable Air Con unit for our sons room made all the difference to our stay & really was them going above & beyond. The local market is a must if you are here on a Wednesday. We also went canoeing on the River Dordogne which was a highlight of the holiday & only 30 minutes away in the car from the Gite. I managed to go out running & road cycling most days and it is a perfect base for some challenging hilly runs & cycles. We had the kids bikes with us but felt the cycle to the local village was too hilly for them to manage in the heat of the day. We really hope to be back.
La Noix is the ideal bold hole for anyone who wants to get away from it all and just relax and reconnect with yourself and your family. This little gite is charming with a wood burning stove that staves off the chilly evenings (even in June 2013 when Europe had a particularly cold spell). Its wonderful just to chill and read with a glass of very inexpensive local wine or ice cream. Piegut-Pluviers is a sleepy little village but with many hidden charms such as the buzzing Wednesday market; La Reine des Glaces ice cream shop (owners Hoop and Saskia are fab people) and Sens de la Terre is a great cafe. The secure garden of La Noix is ideal for young kids with its heated pool, swing, camp fire and boules to pass away summer evenings after dining alfresco on your own terrace with outdoor BBQ. Magical! The nearby swimming lake St Estephe is just beautiful. Gill and Pat are wonderful hosts and have great suggestions on local sights and restaurants. Bikes are available to explore the surrounding area on the very safe and quite back roads. Our three week stay here was like a tonic for myself, my husband and our little girl. If you wanted to find a quite place to write a book or memoir this could be an ideal place. June was probably a quieter time to visit this part of France but it suited our purposes perfectly! You do need a car to go to the nearest towns and villages quickly.
Fabulous Holiday. It was our third time and this time we were joined with our family and friends so it was the best so far.
It has everything you are looking for on holiday.
So much to do and such a wide variety.
Gill and Pat are the hostesses with the mostesses.
We have already booked again for next year.
We had a great week at this property. The owners Gill and Pat are very welcoming and have mastered the difficult balance of being attentive but not at all intrusive. The atmosphere is really relaxed. This is a great property with everything you need for young kids. The only thing I would say is that, if your taller than 6'2" you will bang your head upstairs!! ?The highlight is the outside space which is really superb for relaxing in and there is loads for young kids to do (ours are 4 and 1 years old). The pool is perfect. We found we hardly needed to leave the property at all, other than to replenish the wine stocks!
