Townhouse in Olhao, Algarve, Portugal - Perfect Location Less Than 100 Meters From The Sea

During its tastefull renovation project, Casa Da Esquina was transformed into a state of the art 'upside down house'. The en-suite air conditioned bedroom is located on the ground floor, keeping it cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The open plan living room and kitchen are on the first floor with convenient large french windows opening onto the sun drenched terrace with BBQ and outside dining. This south facing property benefits from the abundant Algarvian sunshine all year round. The upper roof terrace is an added bonus and a great place to sip a glass of wine or a beer and top up your tan! Wi Fi is provided at no extra cost! I recommend bringing a tablet or large phone to enable you to watch all your favourite channels. All the attractions that entice holiday makers to Olhao are on the door step. The sea is about 100 metres away as are the famous markets. The restaurants, coffee shops and bars are literally just around the corner, in fact, as everything is so convenient, you may decide that you do not need a car. Please note, like the vast majority of Olhao townhouses, the stairs are fairly narrow and steep, though not plentiful. Although acceptable to most people, please consider this if you have any fitness or injury concerns.

I currently own and rent two properties in the olhao and pechao area. This 'pastime' started when I came across a really old derelict building that was for sale. I made an offer and the rest is history! It is such a great experience to see an old building knocked down and replaced with a vastly improved one! The olhao properties have all undertaken major renovation work (as apposed to a complete rebuild). It is a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone.

Why Neil Dawson chose Olhao region

The challenge was to find somewhere in the centre of town but still in a quiet area. This property is as near as you will find to this description as no cars are allowed down the cobbled walkways.

If you walk fifty yards, numerous restaurants, bars and shops await. Not to mention the harbour and sea beyond!

This property was formerly a run down, semi derelict, house. after my purchase, a major renovation project started. twelve months later, the end result is a beautiful, perfectly located, townhouse. This property seems to have more 'return visitors' than any other I have owned.

What makes this house unique

No cars whistling by your front door and a perfect location. Within fifty yards or so is everything you could need, including the sea!

Notes on accommodation: The original character of the property has been maintained, but a fresh, airy, modern feel has been added. The spot is great for sun worshippers have 2 sun soaked terraces. The important corner location also cannot be understated, as it enabled the property to gain a hall way and also lots of windows so the property has a bright airy feel about it. The satellite television channels offer sky news and other channels. The DVD player is easy to use. Outside: Two outside terraces! The first one adjoins the living room. By fully opening the patio doors this really opens out the living room. You can sit here with a beer and watch the world go by below you. A brick built barbecue is built into the wall on this terrace. From this terrace, you can walk up to the upper roof terrace. Up here you get sunshine all day long! It is a quiet, peaceful and private spot, ideal for sunbathing or an afternoon nap! Utility Room: Area by the entrance room can be used for storage. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Property is cleaned prior to arrival. Towels and linen are provided. A villa manager is employed. He lives five minutes away and his phone number is available to all clients. Other: Front door leads to entrance room which adjoins the bedroom and the stairs leading up to open plan kitchen/diner/living room. From there you have two roof terraces at your private disposal! The lower terrace has shade and the upper terrace sun drenched!

Perfect getaway

Arrived to a spotlessly clean apartment . Convenient to great restaurants and markets. Very near ferry for island beaches. We had a lovely week at Neil's house and would return again in a heartbeat....

Great location

Stayed for 8 nights in July 2017.

Location of house is brilliant 2 streets back from Fish market and fruit/veg market. No through traffic so it was surprisingly quiet. Be prepared for noise from nearby bars and dogs however. Enjoyed staying in Olhão but it is a dirty wee town. The house is ideal for a couple. It's very private and the roof terrace is great for sunbathing. We were keen to self cater as we love cooking and we used the barbecue almost every night. However the kitchen equipment could do with upgrading. I had to wash all the utensils and cutlery prior to using for first time. A knife had been put back into knife block greasy and dirty. The utensils on the stand were ingrained with dirt and we didn't use them. There was a bottle of fairy liquid, a pan scourer/sponge and couple of jcloths but no other cleaning materials supplied. There was a general air of neglect about the house. It wouldn't take much money/effort to improve it.

The bed was really uncomfortable and creaky and not conducive to a good nights sleep. The bedsheet was old and had holes in it. I've thrown out better sheets! The ensuite bath and shower room was spacious. Wifi was good.

The stairs to sitting area on first floor are very steep and the risers were difficult to negotiate when you've got short legs! The very narrow stair is not suitable for a wide or unfit person!

Finally the roof terrace was not enhanced by the grotty looking plastic chair. The sun loungers were fine. The owner provided good information. All in all we felt that the price was high for the quality of the accommodation.

Beautiful property in an excellent location

We stayed here last week and will definitely stay again. The cobbled streets are full of character and there are some amazing tapas bars in the narrow streets a short distance from the house.

The ferries are a five minute walk and the islands are just beautiful. The sea is crystal clear and warm and the beaches were really not very busy when we were there. There is some good BBQ fish restaurants as well.

The train station is close as well and very cheap.

Ze, the house manager was brilliant and got us some wine, water and milk for our arrival as we got in quite late (but there were bars still open, so of course we had a little wonder 😊).

Neil, the owner was really helpful and sent us an information pack before we arrived and answered all my questions.

We got a taxie from the airport which cost about €24.

All in all we had a wonderful time, the Portuguese are friendly and helpful and I would highly recommend it.

Fabulous location in a great town

Very traditional apartment ideally located in Olhao, close to sea front and all the restaurants. Beautiful high ceilings in Bathroon and bedroom keep it lovely and cool but when a little hotter there is air-con. Two terraces enable you a choice when you want to either barbecue, sunbathe or just chill out.

Sunny Base, Lovely Place

Just returned from a fabulous month in Olhao. Neils house is a fantastic base to explore the Eastern Algarve. Breakfast and lunch in the sun, dinner in the sunset. Olhao has true Portuguese character and characters. The directions and instructions were spot on. Never met the property manager... No need, couldn't find a single fault at the property.

My first visit to the "east" and after 30 years, may never go west again. I visited 12 places, on the trains mainly and sometimes the bus. This included 2 islands and across to Spain via the ferry. Local restaurants and bars are all fantastic value. Try the markets for fresh fish, meat and veg for your BBQ... Enjoy!

Coast/Beach:

Two minutes walk to the sea! Olhao has a new harbour with cobbled walkways taking you along its picturesque coastline. The beautiful unspoilt beaches on the car free islands of Armona and Farol are a short and inexpensive (less than five euros return in Jan 2009) ferry ride away. Alternatively a water taxi takes just 5 minutes. Other beaches in the area include the beautiful Faro beach that stretches for miles. It is about twenty minutes drive away.

Travel:

Faro airport is twenty minutes away. If you do not hire a car, taxis are on hand at the airport. (cost approximately 20euros to get to Olhao). Olhao train station is a short walk from the house. You may consider taking the train to Lisbon and spending a day or two in the historic Portuguese capital. Or you can go along the coast east or west at very reasonable train fares.

Distances:

Casa da Esquina is perfectly located with everything you need for a great holiday on your doorstep. The street itself is quiet and unspoilt. Cars cannot get down here so peace and quiet is all but guaranteed, yet within a one minute walk you can access many bars, restaurants and shops.

Further Details:

Olhao is famous for its cobbled walkways, as well as its daily fish market and dozens of shops. Numerous supermarkets are within easy walking distance. Restaurants in Olhao include traditional Portuguese, Indian, Chinese, Italian and pizza. In 2008 a new Spanish tapas restaurant opened. For the fast food junkies among you, Olhao even has a Mcdonalds! The local bank is less than a one minute walk away, as is the nearest chemist. Public parking is available within 30 yards of the house.
