Townhouse in Olhao, Algarve, Portugal - Perfect Location Less Than 100 Meters From The Sea

During its tastefull renovation project, Casa Da Esquina was transformed into a state of the art 'upside down house'. The en-suite air conditioned bedroom is located on the ground floor, keeping it cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The open plan living room and kitchen are on the first floor with convenient large french windows opening onto the sun drenched terrace with BBQ and outside dining. This south facing property benefits from the abundant Algarvian sunshine all year round. The upper roof terrace is an added bonus and a great place to sip a glass of wine or a beer and top up your tan! All the attractions that entice holiday makers to Olhao are on the door step. The sea is about 100 metres away as are the famous markets. The restaurants, coffee shops and bars are literally just around the corner, in fact, as everything is so convenient, you may decide that you do not need a car. Please note, like the vast majority of Olhao townhouses, the stairs are fairly narrow and steep, though not plentiful. Although acceptable to most people, please consider this if you have any fitness or injury concerns.

I currently own and rent four properties in the olhao and pechao area. This 'pastime' started when I came across a really old derelict building that was for sale. I made an offer and the rest is history! It is such a great experience to see an old building knocked down and replaced with a vastly improved one! The olhao properties have all undertaken major renovation work (as apposed to a complete rebuild). It is a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone.

Excellent property near the Town Square!

WOW! This is a fabulous little house situated down a quiet alleyway/rua in the vibrant town of Olhao. What a super place to visit-there were great bars and restaurants but did not feel overly "touristy". Lots of friendly Portuguese who helped direct us to various places of interest. (boat trips to the islands, love tuk wine tours etc)

Perfect if you do not want to hire a car as everything is either within walking distance or accessible by ferry or train. So close in fact, that if we needed the loo when we were out for the night, we would just nip "home"-if only the same could be done at home in the UK!

The house has the perfect solution to the hot Portuguese summers with excellent air-conditioning in the downstairs bedroom. But for sun lovers, there are two small terraces which are perfect places to drink some vinho verde in the evening before hitting the town!

And a very special THANK YOU goes to Neil, the owner. Our plans changed on the final day and he willingly allowed us to stay on in the house until the cleaner arrived-which meant that we didn't have to drag luggage around all day whilst we waited to be picked up for the airport. I have dealt with owners before who have not been as amenable or flexible- so thumbs up to Neil for his speedy responses and consideration towards us.

The only word of caution is that the internal stairs are quite steep and narrow but these added to the character of the building-and helped to burn off the calories gained after consuming all those delectable ice creams from the Gelato shop!

We would 100% recommend this property!

Nice little house but needs some TLC

Neil was really helpful during the booking process. We learned about this property through his website. We love Olhao, having stayed there several times, attracted by the fantastic fish market and great quality restaurants. The house is in a great central location on a fairly quiet street. It was spotless on arrival and the air-conditioned bedroom was very welcome! However, we spent the first day replacing light bulbs, most crucially that in the entrance area - at the bottom of very steep stairs - a safety must!

We also had to provide an ironing board as a washing machine and iron were provided but nowhere to use it. Neil's website stated that a weekly maid service was provided but no such service appeared, I love self catering but don't relish the idea of washing and ironing bedding and towels...Needless to say, I had no choice and ended up having to go and buy a washing line to attach on the roof terrace to dry the linens.

The living/kitchen area was perfectly adequate but too hot to use to its full advantage and the ripped and worn out couch wasn't particularly appealing. The shower also leaked over the bathroom floor.

In theory, the house is a nice compact property but in need of some tlc...

I am also pleased that you enjoyed the location of the house and that you had a peaceful and quiet stay. Light bulbs should get checked by our cleaner prior to every stay and I have reiterated that to my manager. also, thank you for your kind words about the house being spotless on arrival. The cleaner we use is, in our opinion, the best in Olhao! A cleaner should be available for a mid clean and I am very sorry that they did not. Had you have raised the point to my manager at the time, the cleaner would have paid a visit very promptly. Nonetheless, I apologise. As for the sofa, a new one will be purchased in winter of 2016, and the usual maintenance work and decorating will be carried out at the end of the season This is a process I undertake at the end of every season. The house does get TLC on a regular basis and my reviews, on the whole, seem to concur with this. Once again, thank you very much for the review, I am glad you had a good holiday and I will certainly take your thoughts on board. Neil.

We spent a wonderful month in Neil's townhouse. The house was very clean and well kept. Neil provided excellent service and was very sensitive to his 's clients needs. The town of Olhao was the perfect size, the marketplace is only 2 blocks from the house, bakery around the corner and a 5 minute walk to a grocery store. English spoken everywhere, warm and friendly people. We would return in a heartbeat. Thank you Neil,

Delightful house in a perfect location

Another wonderful stay in this lovely sunny house - perfect for a couple who want to have privacy and quiet, yet also be literally just around the corner from the fabulous markets, seafront, restaurants and shops. The house has recently had further improvements carried out, and is looked after extremely well by an English speaking local manager. Olhao is a charming real portuguese fishing town, with an atmospheric old quarter, attractive seafront with promenade and gardens, and easy access to anywhere along the Algarve coast including the offshore islands - thoroughly recommended

Lovely sunny house

Casa da Esquina (the corner house) is a delightfully renovated small house in the charming old town of Olhao, with brick vaulted ceilings, a good sized first floor balcony with built-in barbecue leading from the kitchen/living room, and a large roof terrace with sun-loungers and views over the town. It is very quiet, yet the markets, restaurants and shopping are all just round the corner. Being south facing the balcony and roof terrace are lovely and sunny all day.

We have just come back from a wonderful two week stay, and have already booked to go again. In fact this will be the fifteenth time that we have rented this house, which shows how much we like it! We haven't found anywhere better in Olhao, and it is perfect for a couple who want privacy, yet also to be near all the amenities.

The house was immaculately clean on arrival, and the local representative was extremely helpful - nothing was too much trouble.

Location

From the Owner

The challenge was to find somewhere in the centre of town but still in a quiet area. This property is as near as you will find to this description as no cars are allowed down the cobbled walkways. If you walk fifty yards, numerous restaurants, bars and shops await. Not to mention the harbour and sea beyond! This property was formerly a run down, semi derelict, house. after my purchase, a major renovation project started. twelve months later, the end result is a beautiful, perfectly located, townhouse. This property seems to have more 'return visitors' than any other I own.

Coast/Beach:

Two minutes walk to the sea! Olhao has a new harbour with cobbled walkways taking you along its picturesque coastline. The beautiful unspoilt beaches on the car free islands of Armona and Farol are a short and inexpensive (less than five euros return in Jan 2009) ferry ride away. Alternatively a water taxi takes just 5 minutes. Other beaches in the area include the beautiful Faro beach that stretches for miles. It is about twenty minutes drive away.

Travel:

Faro airport is twenty minutes away. If you do not hire a car, taxis are on hand at the airport. (cost approximately 20euros to get to Olhao). Olhao train station is a short walk from the house. You may consider taking the train to Lisbon and spending a day or two in the historic Portuguese capital. Or you can go along the coast east or west at very reasonable train fares.

Distances:

Casa da Esquina is perfectly located with everything you need for a great holiday on your doorstep. The street itself is quiet and unspoilt. Cars cannot get down here so peace and quiet is all but guaranteed, yet within a one minute walk you can access many bars, restaurants and shops.

Further Details:

Olhao is famous for its cobbled walkways, as well as its daily fish market and dozens of shops. Numerous supermarkets are within easy walking distance. Restaurants in Olhao include traditional Portuguese, Indian, Chinese, Italian and pizza. In 2008 a new Spanish tapas restaurant opened. For the fast food junkies among you, Olhao even has a Mcdonalds! The local bank is less than a one minute walk away, as is the nearest chemist. Public parking is available within 30 yards of the house.

  • Notes on accommodation: The original character of the property has been maintained, but a fresh, airy, modern feel has been added. The spot is great for sun worshippers have 2 sun soaked terraces. The important corner location also cannot be understated, as it enabled the property to gain a hall way and also lots of windows so the property has a bright airy feel about it. The satellite television channels offer sky news and other channels. The DVD player is easy to use. Outside: Two outside terraces! The first one adjoins the living room. By fully opening the patio doors this really opens out the living room. You can sit here with a beer and watch the world go by below you. A brick built barbecue is built into the wall on this terrace. From this terrace, you can walk up to the upper roof terrace. Up here you get sunshine all day long! It is a quiet, peaceful and private spot, ideal for sunbathing or an afternoon nap! Utility Room: Area by the entrance room can be used for storage. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Property is cleaned prior to arrival. Towels and linen are provided. A villa manager is employed. He lives five minutes away and his phone number is available to all clients. Other: Front door leads to entrance room which adjoins the bedroom and the stairs leading up to open plan kitchen/diner/living room. From there you have two roof terraces at your private disposal! The lower terrace has shade and the upper terrace sun drenched!
