About the Owner

We are a couple from London and moved here in this lovely white washed village 10 years ago and we never looked back. We just love where we are because of the lovely scenery and very welcoming locals. We have integrated well with the Spanish which was easy since we both speak fluent Spanish. We love our lifestyle here in Alora, so laid back and stress-free, we have adapted the Spanish way of life, and that is "we work to live and not to live to work". Our daily lives are enhanced by the presence of our Cocker Spaniel and Dachshund. My husband has hotel and food and beverage background, having worked for major hotels in the Far East as well as restaurants in London, while I had worked in Public Relations back in London.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Michael Prentice, a journalist from Ottawa, Canada, and his wife, Marie-Louise Seymonsbergen spent five weeks renting Casa Mimosa early in 2014, and Michael afterwards sent us this report:

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and Helen and Steve were wonderful hosts. Nothing was too much trouble for them .They met us at Malaga airport to ensure we got to the villa safely. During our stay, they did so many kindnesses for us. One was Steve's delivery of two chocolate cakes he had made for us. Delicious! We almost never saw Helen do what I believe was her almost-daily cleaning of the pool before we were out of our beds. We knew she must have been to the villa only on days when she left fresh oranges on the doorstep. The villa is comfortable and fully lived up to our expectations. The selection of books and tapes is excellent. (Sorry if we wore out the Gypsy Kings CD, Steve and Helen!) The pool and grounds are fabulous. The location is excellent. Regards, Michael

The property in Alora is stunning. Beautiful garden surrounding the house and pool make it an idyll.

This was our second visit to Helen & Steve's exquisite house. Everything you could need is there for the easiest self catering imaginable. The pool is wonderful and surrounded by fabulous gardens. Outdoor seating is brilliantly placed all round so you can find sun or shade throughout the day. Lots of room inside and out and 3 bathrooms make this a terrific family destination. We will go back.

Perfect !

  • 5 of 5

This is the 5th villa that we have stayed in and by far the best ! The secure gardens are amazing. There's different spots to sit and chill, whether you want sun or shade. The pool area & surrounding gardens at night are lit up perfectly. So relaxing with a lovely breeze. There's Aircon in all rooms although we only needed it in the bedroom at night. No need for a 4 wheel drive to access the villa ( we have stayed in other villas that have said this but were very lenient with the truth!)

Really can't fault this place !

Amazing!

Casa Mimosa was better than we thought it would be and the quality of service from Helen and Steve is 5*. Any queries we had after booking were dealt with efficiently and the one or two we had during our stay were sorted quickly too. Casa Mimosa was clean and comfortable, a real home from home with the very necessary air conditioning. I would make a cup of tea and sit and watch the sun come up over the mountains and listen to the valley come to life, a great way to start the day!

There is a comprehensive information book with places to eat, places to visit. We would generally go to the town in the morning and enjoy a coffee watching the world go by. Very little English is spoken in Alora which encourages you to learn Spanish as you go along, there is no rush everyone sits and chats. It can be a bit hit and miss where you can eat as you never really knew where would be open, it just means you try somewhere else. Be prepared for hills, some are steep....

We were lucky to go to the Malaga Feria (fair) on Steve and Helen's recommendation. It was fantastic and well worth a visit.

For a family of four with two teenage boys Casa Mimosa ticked all the boxes, the pool was big enough for them to mess about in, they had separate en suite rooms so no fighting over showers, plenty of seating areas and pool loungers. The choice of food in Alora kept everyone happy. De Knas is a good place to go until you familiarise yourself then after that be brave and just try.

All in all a memorable break in a great property on the outskirts of a pretty and laid back village. We intend to return, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Casa Mimosa.

This villa really lives up to expectations

  • 5 of 5

I was attracted to this villa by the good looking photos on this site along with the good specification of the interior and the locality close to Alora. I can honestly say that we were not dissapointed in the slightest.

From our initial contact with Helen and Steve arranging the stay, completing payment, receiving directions, etc. was all handled quickly and efficiently with no problems along the way. We hired a car at Malaga airport and the drive out to the property was easy with helpful photos having been provided by Helen in order that we could locate the turning onto the track leading to the villa. About 40 minutes drive from the airport.

Helen and Steve were there to welcome us and familiarise us with the property and give us some tips on the area (supermarkets, etc.). There is a fairly comprehensive guest book with recommendations to a number of restaurants (which we did not use much due to the great bbq weather).

The property is beautiful, well maintained and well equipped. Great gardens, plenty of space and places to sit if you want a bit of shade or peace. The pool area is a sun trap and my two sons (in their 20's) and one girlfriend spent most of the week developing a good tan!!

Small things that make a big difference have been included. There are two banks of 10 gang English plugs that have been wired into the electricity supply meaning you have no need to take loads of plug adaptors with you for all the electronic gadgets that fill our lives these days. The welcome pack including wine and beer (and maybe some other essentials!!) sets the tone of the holiday. Having Helen and Steve close (in the village) was nice in case of problems (we did not need their help fortunately).

The only slight downside was the walk into the village which does include a pretty steep hill to get to the centre and is about a 20 minute walk. Once in Alora however it is a pretty white Spanish village with restaurants and bars tucked around every corner it seems.

I would highly recommend Casa Mimosa for a holiday, particularly if you are looking to chill and relax as we were.

the prefect getaway

  • 5 of 5

Truly a joy to arrive and stay in Helen & Steve's Casa Mimosa, excellent hosts and beautiful villa ideally situated in Alora, we weren't left wanting for anything. The villa has gorgeous gardens with numerous places to sit and relax to look out at the various beautiful vistas of the surrounding countryside of Alora, the swimming pool and area is well maintained and equipped for relaxing in and around, especially in the evenings with the garden lights turned on. Many thanks H & S, whenever we're heading to south of Spain again it will only be whenever you're place is available to stay in.

marvellous!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a week with our two twenty-something sons. It would be hard to find any fault - a lovely villa, with beautiful views, quietly situated and very peaceful. Spotlessly clean, and the screens meant that we could open all the doors and windows to keep cool, without any insects getting in. The pool and garden were beautifully maintained.

We really appreciated that the kitchen was so well equipped, and that loads of store cupboard basics like oil/vinegar/spices etc were all provided, as well as a welcome pack of "essentials" including chilled beer and wine. Perfect!

It is about a mile to walk into the little town for tapas, quite hilly but quiet roads. The train station is quite close, a taxi cost 10euros, and we took the train to Malaga and to Ronda for day-trips, both of which were really worthwhile.

Helen and Steve were great, unobtrusively helpful, and the lift to the Supermarket on the first day was a real bonus - we didn't hire a car so stocked up completely for the week.

Thoroughly recommended!

Location

From the Owner

We bought our finca because of its vantage position, its proximity to town (1.3 km away) which is only a 15 to 20 minute walk away and at the same time having the peace and tranquility of the countryside. Yes, we have the best of both worlds. What was the clincher to to deal was the views of the Moorish Castle especially at night when illuminated, it's so magical. While the views of the mountains and countryside are breathtaking. We just love where we are because the walks to the countryside is at our doorstep. The finca was a cereal farm and so there were no existing trees when we bought it. Now it is the greenest finca in the area with hundreds of conifer surrounding the perimetre, a tropical garden, an oriental garden for meditation. It is paradise on earth and we just love it.

Facilities

From the Owner

What we love about the villa is the ease to go to town or the main roads leading to Malaga etc. Unlike other properties, you need not hire a 4 wheel drive because the access is good and quite short (1.3km. In the evenings, majority of other properties, you are surrounded by darkness while here you have the views of the illuminated Castle and town plus you can see the town of Pizarra, Coin and Alhuarin twinkling away.
