Cottage in Penbryn, Ceredigion, Wales - Secluded Location, 10 Mins Walk to National Trust Beach

Tan-y-Bryn is based on a 19th Century stone building, converted forty years ago. The bungalow is set in secluded grounds amid the Welsh hills. It is surrounded by good walking country with spectacular views and excellent bird watching and is within a 10 minute walk of the National Trust's Penbryn beach with safe swimming. The accommodation sleeps four, with one double and one twin bedroom. There is a fully fitted modern kitchen with a full size cooker, washing/drying machine and a microwave. The good sized living room has a colour television with Sky Freeview and DVD player. A second TV with video player (no TV reception) is in the twin room. Additional heating in the lounge is supplied by an electric log-effect hot air stove. A door from the lounge leads to the shower room and separate WC. In the large garden there is a barbecue and covered seating area plus level off-road parking. Tan-y-Bryn is ideal for families with children. Pets are welcome @ £10 per week

Our wonderful week in tan y bryn

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a week's stay in November with our three dogs. Warm, cosy well equipped and gloriously isolated, despite the somewhat challenging weather we had a most relaxing and comfortable stay and will most certainly be returning next year if at all possible. Beautiful area to visit with several lovely towns villages and beaches in easy driving distance. Thank you Julia glad we found you!

Summer Holiday in Tan y Bryn

  • 5 of 5

We have been to Penbryn before and always feel at home here in the little piece of paradise. It was my son who discovered Tan y bryn and we absolutely loved it from the moment we arrived. It was like a little beach chalet, slightly inland but with everything you needed. The beds were really comfy, the rooms spotless and the furnishings right for the era of the property. As an architect that's really important to me. There was a bbq outside and garden. The only thing that would be great is if there was a leveled sun trap/ seating area on the lawn as opposed to viewing the cars. That was no major issue though and we would definitely book again.

The bungalow was set in a lovely, secluded spot which was quiet but very convenient for Penbryn beach. There was ample space for our family of four with space for eating either inside or outside - we were lucky to have a week of glorious weather so we used the table & chairs at the front of the house.

The cottage had all the facilities we needed for a relaxing stay, it was very useful to have a decent sized freezer as well as a fridge. The beds were very comfortable and the electricity & hot water were easy to use and to keep track of what you had used.

We enjoyed Penbryn beach from a previous visit so spent many days there, however the cottage was conveniently located for traveling to other attractions in the area.

My family and I really enjoyed our stay at Tan-y-Bryn and would not hesitate to book it again in the future.

Owner's Response: We endeavour to make Tan-y-Bryn as comfotable and a home from home as possible and are delighted that Mr. and Mrs. Spruce and family have booked the cottage again for July 2014. Certainly with the very good weather Penbryn beach and surrounding countryside would have been glorious.

Our 4th time!

  • 4 of 5

This is a comfortable, compact, well-equipped retreat, set in an idyllic, secluded spot within walking distance of a beautiful beach. The private, south-facing patio is ideal to relax on and if, like us, you like to walk, there are many varied, beautiful walks direct from the property.

The owners make an effort to update the cottage every year and since we first went 5 years ago the cottage has had a new kitchen, bathroom, wide-screen television, double glazed windows and a new 3 piece suite. They also always respond to suggestions e.g. for even more items of kitchen equipment.

When we go away we take food with us and like to use the car as little as possible if at all and instead enjoy walking to all the lovely beaches nearby. However there is a good farm shop 2 miles away on the main road and there are lots of places to visit not far away such as Newquay, Cardigan and Aberaeron.

Owner's Response: While situated in a quiet area with both sea and country side there is plenty to do from Tan-y-Bryn, e.g. a drive to Aberystwyth to watch Red Kites coming into be fed is well worth a trip. The Ship at Tresaith provides good food with a beautiful view of the surrounding beach and cliffs. The Beach Cafe at the top of Penbryn beach, three minutes walk from the cottage, makes a good place for breakfast or lunch. Tan-y-Bryn is a family concern and we endevour to make our visitors feel at home. Any improvements are carried out during the winter months and the cottage is spring cleaned every year by the owners ready for the holiday period.

Great Hideaway

  • 4 of 5

Property very clean and comfortable and in a great secluded location but only a 10 min walk from the beach and coastal path. A couple of miles along the path in either direction brings you to Tresaith or Llangrannog with Aberporth a little further to the south. The Ship in Tresaith is excellent and there are a couple of pubs, cafes and shops in both Llangrannog and Aberporth.

Very cold for our visit (icicles on the cliffs) so we needed the heating on almost constantly but in good weather the patio area caught the sun nicely providing a good quiet and private spot to enjoy a glass of wine and watch the wildlife.

Owner's Response: Tan-y-Bryn is in a very pretty quiet spot and has several country and coastal walks from the cottage door with the oportunity for plenty of bird watching. The two mile stretch of sandy beach provides safe bathing in the summer months. The cottage is stone built and heating is supplied in the form of three storage heaters, included in the price, plus plenty of extra heating appliances available which I am sure were needed with 'icicles on the cliffs'! An excellent supermarket and petrol station is 5 minutes drive away at Brynhofnant and there is a local farm shop also close by. We endevour to make our visitors feel as comfortable and at home as possible.
