About the Owner
Peter and Marilyn Kelly enjoy running their small holding of 20 acres and looking after the small flock of Welsh Mountain Badger Face sheep. Lambing in late March is always challenging but fun and we are sure we have the prettiest lambs in Herefordshire. We are happy for guests to bring their dog and enjoy the walk through the woodland, where no sheep graze, so dogs can run free. We attract birds by hanging feeders around the accommodation, the woodpeckers and nuthatches being of particular interest. Our land is of special interest for wild flora and we try to improve the habitat for the wild animals. This year we intend to create a scape and hope to encourage curlews to nest here.
We are always pleased to meet guests and share our peaceful and wonderful environment..
Guestbook comments from the owner
A friendly welcome from Peter and Marilyn for the start of a wonderful peaceful time, able to relax and enjoy watching the birds. The woodpecker came every morning for breakfast. A drink at the Swan, Huntington is not to be missed, takes you right back in time. Keepers offers every comfort for a lovely holiday. 10/01/2014
Even on rainy days, we found plenty to do. There are many National Trust properties to visit and the lovely Hay on Wye. Delicious food can be bought from the special shops of Kington or tasty food from a good choice of pubs.16/02/2014
We could find nowhere better for walking 'on top of the world.' The many paths offer a choice of challenges which we could plan using the OS maps loaned by Peter. Our dog was made welcome and the path behind Keepers is excellent for an early morning walk. We can recommend Keepers for a comfortable stay. Our second visit and we will be back again. 26/03/2014

Fantastic location. , beautiful views, well equipped and lovely welcoming hosts.
We would definitely return for another visit.
Tastefully appointed, peaceful country retreat
We have just come back from a wonderful week in this lovely cottage, refreshed revived and with a fond affection for this of this tranquil part of the country. There is something very special about lying in bed looking out over the Black Mountains with nothing but the odd sheep to interrupt the silence.
Marilyn and Peter are warm and welcoming, but equally discreet and unobtrusive. The cottage is tastefully appointed with a very well stocked kitchen, making it possible to produce good meals at home using the excellent local ingredients from the lovely nearby town of Kington.
Everything in the cottage works. There is an excellent airing room/walk in wardrobe which was extremely useful for drying walking clothes and boots. The sofas are comfortable, the dining table is practical and pretty.
Having stayed in a number of self-catering cottages in this part of the world, we are clear that Keepers is by far the best of them and the price is good value.
Peace and quiet..bliss!
Perfect place to while away a few days and recharge the batteries! Made very welcome by Marilyn and Peter and even shared a drink at the local pub which is totally unique. Bailey made very welcome too and despite being dog friendly, no hint of doggy smells or hair anywhere in the property. Enjoyed watching the birds and despite some mixed weather we would definitely recommend Keepers for a wonderful rural base to explore this part of the world. Thank you.
This was our second stay at Keepers, and have to say that it was as excellent as our first visit. Keepers is such an idyllic place to stay. The owners are friendly but discreet and are happy to give advice re places to visit and places to eat out locally. The accommodation is comfortable and well kept and we found it perfect for the two us along with our dog. The area is beautiful and unspoilt, and there are great places to eat out in the evenings nearby. We hope to return to this beautiful place soon.
Lovely, peaceful hideaway
We stayed two nights at Keepers and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The location was great for walking around the local hills right out of the door, or making the most of some of the local sights such as Hay-on-Wye and local National Trust properties, of which there are plenty to choose from.
The property itself is beautifully built with lots of exposed beams, the space was perfect for two of us and it was all well equipped with everything we needed, including a balcony with lovely views. The only downsides were the combi oven was very tricky to use (we failed), and the wifi was not working, but for a rural escape that was probably a good thing really!
We would happily return to Keepers if there were not so many other places in the world to explore!

“Staying in Keepers at Greenfield Farmhouse offers such peace, quiet with wonderful views to the Black mountains. but also plenty of activities close by. The area is known as a centre for walks, with a section of Offas Dyke within easy reach. The horse riding on the hills offers tracks in many directions, the local friendly golf course is the highest 18 hole in England and canoeing on the beautiful river Wye is 10 minutes away. There is some thing for everyone, with the historical market towns, farmers markets and special churches to visit. You may need our post code HR5 3PZ to help find us.”
