An excellent short break!

  • 4 of 5

Four of us have just returned from an excellent short stay at The Linney. Martin (we unfortunately didn't get to meet Kim!) was a super host, lots of contact prior and he met us on arrival. The unit is well kitted out and comfortable, and there is a wealth of local and other information, probably the best we have ever had in a cottage rental. While it is in a suburban area, it is close to both town and country and dog friendly which is essential for us!

Owner's Response: Dear Tim, I am so pleased you all, including pooches, had an excellent stay with us. When Kim and I came with the children for a holiday just up the road and then moved, we found the joys of a location with essential amenities within a short stroll of our door step rather than being in the middle of nowhere; yet able to visit countryside, coast and the main towns within minutes - our location and certain amenities such as the Coop, Fish & Chips, Bakers and Chinese have been a hit over and again with guests (and us!), and so glad, even in your short stay you found it so as well. Longer next time! Thank you for your kind comments about me. We do aim to ensure guests not only have a lovely place to stay but also find some special places to visit – it can be frustrating going to a new area, finding a lovely place to stay, but having no idea what’s around in the area – I didn’t want that for our guests, especially as we have so much. See you again soon. Kind regards, Martin

We were met at the accommodation by Martin who was very friendly and provided us with all the information we needed on the property and local amenities.

The property was of a high standard with everything you need for a break away...situated in a good location..... I would definitely recommend the property to anyone and we will be looking to return in the future.

Owner's Response: We are so glad you all enjoyed your time with us and found our local information helpful, taking advantage of the sun with some lovely beach walks and meals out with a rather worn out dog! It was a pleasure having you and the family stay with us over the Christmas period and thank you for taking the time to write your review. See you all soon. Martin and Kim.

Comfortable, welcoming, quaint and perfect for our needs with a great location

  • 5 of 5

The Linny was an ideal holiday home with very hospitable hosts that were welcoming and efficient. They go the extra mile without interfering in your holiday. Our teenagers were delighted with their own room with ensuite as well as the nightlife in Torquay. We all enjoyed the beaches, including the dog and pub walks. The property was well organised and the hosts left plenty of information to suit all visitors, so you do not waste time on non recommended places. This venue and location gave us an opportunity to have quality family time and keep all of us happy. Very relaxing. Would definitely return!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words. Nothing more annoying that finding a lovely place to stay but then not knowing where to go - we, as a family, have experienced that and didn't want it for our guests with so many gems in the area that we, and now our guests, have found to enjoy. We look forward to welcoming you back. Kind regards, Martin and Kim

Felt at home the moment we arrived....will be returning

  • 5 of 5

From the welcoming and helpfulness of the owners, to the quality and finishing touches of the cottage, to the ideal location for exploring south devon's gems aswell as having amenities on your doorstep, it has been the ideal place for our first family holiday.

Our 18 month old son made himself at home the moment he walked in the door of the cottage. Consideration that we had a young child had been made so that we had no safety concerns. Martin said we were welcome to move things around if it helped with our son which we didn't need to do but it was another sign of the owners customer service. Another sign of this was the bottle of wine and cookies that were awaiting us.

We loved the character of the property, combined with the luxury comfort. The courtyard of the Linny wasn't particularly suitable for our son as it is cobbled but the two other gardens more than made up for it. Although due to the weather and the fact we were out a lot of the time, it didn't really have an impact on us.

After long days out exploring, it was a perfect end to the day to return to the Linny. Sometimes we cooked, sometimes we took advantage of the local takeaways and other times it was just a relaxing drink, but always comfortable. We all slept extremely well whilst away including our son who up to this point has NEVER settled to sleep anywhere other than home.

If you haven't already researched (or even if you have), the cottage has some wonderful information packs which also gives opinions of prior guests. These helped us find places we weren't aware of.

We had a small issue with the wifi on the third day, however after advising Martin, he promptly dealt with the issue and it was not a concern again.

And the cottage also made me realise that I don't learn very quickly. If I hit my head on the sloped ceiling in the bathroom once, I did it again and again. I blame the wine or my age....but I will go for the wine :-)

I think that the quality of the cottage is a selling point in itself but you add in the personal service that you get from the Brooks family and we think that Pilgrims Rest is very hard to beat.

All in all, we will definitely be returning!!

Owner's Response: Dear Sacha, Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review for our Linny here at Pilgrims Rest Cottages. It was a pleasure having your family stay. Richard was an absolute darling and so pleased he slept so well; I know how important that can be with toddlers, having had 5 myself! We have aimed to input everything that we would have wanted in a stay to make it as enjoyable as possible having raised a number of children - a lovely, safe and beautiful place to stay to find some lovely places to explore. Reading your review made me so pleased and satisfied that the hard work pays off and a special time was had. Although you found the other gardens great for Richard we will be inputting an additional area in the medieval cobbled courtyard for our returning toddlers and wine will be ready on arrival again! Kind regards Martin and Kim

Notes on accommodation: The Old Manor Farmhouse was built in the 15th Century. It included a "Linny" and also three traditional barns. Maid service, baby and/ or pet sitting and on site pampering available on request. All are both child and pet friendly, with, for children stair gates at top and bottom of the spiral staircases plus high chairs and cots available on request. There are organised folders on local information, which is so important when coming to an area for the first time covering: eating out / in (30+); walks (20+); sports (you name it); beaches (22); man made and natural attractions (50+) - the combined total cater for all and helping guests find those gems. All heating, towels and bedlinen provided with the barns having easily controlled central heating and plenty of hot water. Smoking inside is not permitted. The owners live in the Old Manor Farmhouse, so are easily available to give help and advice. Outside: Secluded garden and courtyard with sun loungers, tables, companion seats and barbecue for the barns. Separate garden for The Linny to its front. Access to further garden for all, especially children to enjoy 14ft trampoline which goes down well.
