Notes on accommodation: The Old Manor Farmhouse was built in the 15th Century. It included a "Linny" attached were animals were held in the winter and also three traditional barns. Maid service, baby and/ or pet sitting and on site pampering available on request. All are both child and pet friendly, with, for children stair gates at top and bottom of the spiral staircases plus high chairs and cots available on request. There are organised folders on local information, which is so important when coming to an area for the first time covering: eating out / in (30+); walks (20+); sports (you name it); beaches (22); man made and natural attractions (50+) - the combined total cater for all and helping guests find those gems. All heating, towels and bedlinen provided with the barns having easily controlled central heating and plenty of hot water. Smoking inside is not permitted. The owners now live in the Linny, so are easily available to give help and advice. Outside: Secluded garden and courtyard with sun loungers, tables, companion seats and barbecue for the barns. Separate garden for The Old Manor Farmhouse to the front next to lane. Access to further garden for all.

A beautiful cottage in a stunning location!

  • 5 of 5

The threshing barn was the perfect place for us to celebrate our birthdays. Martin and Kim are exceptional hosts and made us feel very welcome. The surrounding location is fabulous and we were all entertained for the whole 4 days.

The barn has four lovely bedrooms and 3 bathrooms so no arguments over it's use!

There is a full kitchen so we could do our shopping and cater adequately. The outside space is lovely and the children enjoyed using their scooters on the paths in and around the cottage.

Thank you for making our time so enjoyable.

We hope to go back soon!

Owner's Response: We knew the stunning location, when we came for a holiday now 20 years ago, staying up the road and moved! We designed Threshing Barn to be not only luxurious in the furnishings, but as importantly in the facilities such as the 3 bathrooms - so important with a large family gathering. Threshing Barn is a popular choice for family celebrations - but 2 birthdays together was certainly special and glad the barn gave all you needed with the open plan design so that you could all gather together with plenty of space. Your comments on us are most kind. We love our guests having a great time and so pleased everything went well. See you again soon, Martin and Kim.

Comfortable, quiet and convenient!

  • 5 of 5

This lovely suite had everything we needed for our party of 7, including three bathrooms!! Our host Martin met us upon arrival and quickly set us up with a some great suggestions for dining and offered several ideas for running routes for the runner in our group. Thanks Martin, it was a memorable stay and we would love to come back!

Owner's Response: Certainly the 3 bathrooms goes down well with larger parties - we know its importance with 7 in our family so made sure Threshing Barn had the extras needed! Always a pleasure to guide guests on eateries and things to do specific to their party, so whatever you are looking for, all can be catered. It also helps that we love running and eating so know the gems in the area! It was such a pleasure having our 'Canadian' guests come and stay with us; ironically our next party to arrive also coming over from the same neck of the woods. Thank you for your kind comments and taking the time to write a review on Pilgrims Rest and Threshing Barn and hope to see you again one day. Kind regards, Martin and Kim.

Owner's Response: We are so pleased you all enjoyed your holiday with us and had a very relaxed and comfortable time in Threshing Barn. Please thank Katherine for her kind comments on us being "genuinely dog friendly and child friendly with so much provided for dogs, children and babies". To us that means a lot; we know how the little extras can go a long way and be so useful. Glad you enjoyed our local beaches and eateries but sorry about the tight parking; you threw us with 3 cars with allocated spaces for 2 in the car park but we managed to reorganise with another guest kindly offering their space for dad to help. All the best and thank you for taking the time to write the review. Martin and Kim

Lovely cottage just as advertised had a great week at the Treshing Barn. Owner was very helpful

  • 5 of 5

The property was perfect for 8 people all sundries provided such as tea coffee etc. We arrived to find milk cookies and a nice bottle of red provided free of charge. The cottages are close to lots of places of interest and easy to find. As a family we would thoroughly recommend the Pilgrims Rest experience. We are already looking forward to returning in the near future.

Owner's Response: Dear Steve and Jill We are so pleased Threshing Barn was a great venue for a special birthday celebration; with everything provided for every age group from 7mths to 60 (!) and you found some excellent eateries and attractions close by - 'On The Rocks' is certainly a great place to eat and The Model Village fantastic for kids. When guests travel a reasonable distance we think the welcome goodies just help - no one wants to go straight out to the shops; a cuppa tea, coffee and cookie or something a little stronger goes down well. We really appreciated the recommendations of places to visit, left in the barn - so helpful for new guests and finally, thanks for bringing with you our furthest guests from down under! See you soon, Martin and Kim

Perfect for two young families to stay over the New Year period, all child friendly including stairs gates and excellent layout on the ground floor as all open plan. Highly recommend!

Owner's Response: Dear Roz I am so glad you and your friends found Threshing Barn perfect for your needs. We have introduced a number of extras over the years to make Threshing Barn child friendly, which includes the stairgates, which other parties have appreciated, as we don't want toddlers, toddling off on their own! Mum and dads can then relax. It was lovely seeing Cloe and Jacob having fun and can't wait to see the duo performing with their guitars, though may need to give a few years! Thanks for taking the time to write and highly recommending. See you again. Martin & Kim.

Peaceful Christmas at the Threshing Barn

  • 4 of 5

The property description is accurate but we did not take into account how narrow the spiral staircase is when lifting suitcases and for erderly members of our party, however it did not spoil our Christmas break.

The property was clean, well maintained and a lovely touch was the bottle of wine, mince pies and Christmas card from the owners. There was a lovely Christmas tree with all the trimmings and lights outside the property which made it feel very festive.

The owner is an excellent landlord and looked after us very well.

On Christmas Eve we had dinner at the Orange Tree in Torbay which was superb. We opted for the tasting menu and could not fault anything. The owners wife was our hostess and nothing was too much trouble.

On Boxing Day we went down to the beach which was lovely and we would highly recommend a stay at this delightful property.

Owner's Response: Dear Adeline Thank you very much for taking the time to write your review and highly recommend others stay at ‘our delightful property’ plus your kind comments about me! We are so pleased you liked our extra touches to make a more festive experience. We very much value our guests’ custom, realising they can pick others and in fact, throughout the year, we leave ‘welcome goodies’ to all guests appropriate to the season, as a little thank you. The Orange Tree is certainly a favourite recommendation to guests; not least because of the wife’s excellent hosting and I must agree guests have found our local beaches gems for walks. Historically old properties had what are known as ‘newel’ staircases (modern day words ‘spiral’) and so, in keeping with a Grade 2* 'National Important' historical property a spiral staircase was put in place. Over time we have realised carrying suitcases up a spiral stair, that guests aren’t normally used to, can be tricky as there is a knack and so, as part of our extra concierge service, offer to carry these up for guests if they want, but with the missed timing of greetings, I am sorry this wasn’t explained, though glad it didn’t spoil your break. Thank you once again for your kind comments and we look forward to welcoming you all back. Martin and Kim.
