Apartment in Argelès Plage, Languedoc Roussillon, Pyrenees Orientales, France - Peaceful Location, Mountain Views From Balcony

The apartment is situated on the second (top) floor of a small block in a lovely peaceful location surrounded by pine woods. The lounge-diner has a south-facing balcony with glorious mountain views. Shops, bars and restaurants are just a few minutes' walk away. Argelès is a first-rate centre for all sports including walking, cycling, tennis, horse-riding and all water sports. There are many places of cultural and historic interest in the area. Lovely traditional fishing villages of Collioure, Port vendres and Banyuls are close by. There's an outstanding art gallery at Céret and Perpignan, Gerona and Barcelona are all accessible. There are lively street markets and festivals of all sorts. Sea trips are available and there are excursions on the 'little yellow train' high up into the Pyrenees.

Hidden Gem

Don't be fooled by the photo on the website....this apartment is a hidden gem...so much so I am almost inclined to keep the property the 'hidden gem' that it is.

Firstly, it is in the most convenient location possible. Barely 2 minutes walk from the sweeping beach of Argeles, yet on a quiet enough street you could be miles away. The balcony overlooks a beautiful pine copse, with the Pyrenees peeking over the tops of the trees making sitting outside to enjoy your breakfast or a drink in the evening most relaxing.

While the bustling centre of Argeles Plage is also but a 5 minute walk away along the beach.

The apartment itself is basic, but hey, you don't go on holiday to sit in your apartment all day. Even so, compare the cost of this apartment. It is excellent value compared to the vast majority.

I have stayed here for a number of years now, and it is in the most convenient location not just for the local beaches but also to explore the coast and even within hitting distance of Spain.

I have never had any issues with the apartment itself and can only assume the previous reviewer was unlucky. The water, bath, shower etc etc have all worked fine for me, but the fact is things DO occasionally break down, so the previous reviewer must have been unlucky.

So, to sum up "great little apartment, great location" just don't go telling everybody....

When we arrived we found the toilet floor wet due to a leak coming from the back of the toilet base which had to be continually mopped up. The bath was half full of water, and it was necessary to buy drain cleaner to allow the water to disperse, the bathroom sink was loose from the wall. The general condition of the apartment needed attention. It proved impossible to contact the owner, whose message on her answer phone informed us that we could not leave a message. We eventually contacted the key-holder, who was most helpful and fixed the sink and toilet of the immediate problems. The apartment is situated near the beach, restaurants and shops, it overlooks a quiet area of pine-trees at the rear, its a shame about the interior and plumbing problems.

Owner's Response: I'm sorry these guests had a disappointing experience. I checked the apartment a few days before their arrival. There was no leak in the toilet, and no water in the bath. I checked the washbasin taps and did not notice that it was loose from the wall. I send all guests an information sheet which includes phone numbers for keyholders who live near Argelès and can therefore respond quickly to problems. I understand from the keyholder that the guest told him the problem was not urgent, but he nevertheless dealt with it quite speedily. All my phone numbers have voicemail, however, as I had been out of England for a while the tape may have been full. Like all of us I receive a lot of cold calls which I cannot clear if I'm not there. I'm puzzled about the comment on the general condition of the apartment. It has recently been redecorated and new curtains put in the bedroom and living room. A new dishwasher was installed last year. The apartment is cleaned and linen put out before the arrival of guests. I checked that this had been done when I visited the apartment prior to the 7th June. I naturally hope guests will enjoy their holiday, and many of my visitors return year on year. I can only repeat that I am sorry these guests found their experience disappointing.

Activity and Interests


The apartment is one minute's walk from a long, safe, sandy beach.


The nearest airport is Perpignan, half an hour's drive away. Ryanair operate year-round sevices. Flybe and Bmi Baby operate in the holiday season. Other airports are Gerona (shown by Ryanair as Barcelona/Gerona) Carcassonne, Montpellier. A car is desirable, but not essential. There are buses and trains from Perpignan calling at Argelès and all locations down to the Spanish border.


Argelès Plage centre 5 minutes' walk, Argelès Village 2km., Collioure 8km. Perpignan 12km.

Changeover Day:
Changeover days are flexible. Arrivals should take place after 2pm, and departures by 10am.

Prices are for the property per week in UK pounds. Discounts are available for long winter lets. Contact the owner for details. There is a 10% discount on all bookings made before 1 March.
If booking is less than 7 days then it will be £50 per night.
