Riding and fishing within 5 miles. Seasonal veg available from garden. Free range eggs from our multi coloured hens when obliging. Cot/highchair. Large DVD library.

About Kate Bottoms and Geoff Hughes

We have years of experience in the hotel and restaurant business and are able to cook special dinners or lunches on request. We are avid about good food and have a comprehensive kitchen garden. We also have lots of useful contacts with other local businesses and attractions.

Kate Bottoms and Geoff Hughes purchased this cottage in 2001

Why Kate Bottoms and Geoff Hughes chose Morda

The courtyard cottage is in the grounds of our house. Once the estate office for one of Lord Harlech's estates, we had great fun turning it into a comfortable and characterful base for exploring and enjoying this lovely part of the UK. It is really well placed for visits to both rural and metropolitan destinations. Easy road links to Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester and Chester. Within a very short distance of great Welsh scenery and lots of industrial heritage related to both railways and canals.

What makes this cottage unique

Kate has incredibly green fingers and for almost 12 months of the year some sort of produce is available from the garden. The complimentary cream tea or mini Victoria sandwich on your arrival are legendary, as is her homemade jam. Our resident llamas, Bella and Aphrodite and the badly mis-named guanaco Dalai are decorating our surrounding fields,

A massive collection of videos and DVDs will help if you are unlucky with the weather.

Charming Shropshire Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Courtyard Cottage is very comfortable and well appointed, perfectly located for exploring historic Oswestry and the surrounding countryside on both sides of the border. Kate and Geoff are friendly and generous hosts. We really appreciated the supplies of fresh eggs, fruit and vegetables and the welcoming cream tea was delicious.

an absolutely beautiful cottage and setting

  • 5 of 5

Cottage was lovely down a private lane. Location was quiet and beautiful hidden amongst the trees. Kate and Geoff were perfect hosts. We couldn't fault the stay on anything from the scrummy bread to the excellent communications with them. We will be staying again when we are back in the area. many thanks to Kate and Geoff for a wonderful stay

Cosy stay in beautiful cottage

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here one night whilst visiting Derwen College. The owners, Geoff and Kate, were very accommodating and we found the cottage to be cosy, full of charm and well equipped. We'd definitely come back. It happened to be the night of a mighty gale ( Ophelia ) but with the heating on and the curtains drawn, we felt safe and warm and appreciated

the peaceful location despite the wind. Lovely home made cake on arrival. Always a bonus !

Cosy and warm and comfortable over a cold Christmas. Peaceful and quiet and everything you could want from the owners who are only across the yard

Owner's Response: These were model Christmas guests, a joy to look after and they were very appreciative of all our Christmas extras. Great attention to leaving the property in good order. We'd have them back in a shot.
