Overview

About the property

2 bedroom, 2 bathroom house in Sablet, Provence - stunning medieval village in the heart of the Côtes du Rhône

La Tour des Anges (the Angels' Tower) is a painstakingly restored and totally unique home inside the medieval ramparts of the village of Sablet, bathed in the sunlight of Provence. The house is full of original features and is furnished simply and stylishly with many vintage pieces. The two bedrooms and the living room all have windows overlooking the valley, with miles of vineyards and fabulous sunsets. The en-suite bathroom, set within the medieval watchtower, has a view (from the bath!) through three arrow-slits. The immense stone walls keep the house wonderfully cool in summer and warm in winter. The airy kitchen opens out into the charming walled garden (which also has a beautiful view through two old windows in the rampart wall). There is a stone bench around the old fig tree and plantings of lavender, herbs and other aromatics.

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: Fully heated with radiators plus a lovely wood burning stove in the living room - makes a perfect winter holiday! The walls are incredibly thick (these are the old village ramparts) - over a metre in places - so the house is lovely and cool in the summer and stays warm in the winter. Outside: Pretty walled garden (very unusual in a village house) on two levels with views out over miles of vines. Planted with herbs and lavender, olive trees and an old fig tree with a stone bench. Large round bistro table and 6 chairs, vintage iron daybed, loungers and gas-fired barbecue. Large double doors open straight from kitchen. Utility Room: Washing machine. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All linen and towels included. Linen changed weekly. Cleaning between lets. Extra cleaning available on request. Other: Wireless broadband internet connection and telephone with free landline worldwide included.

Wonderful stay in lovely village house

  • 5 of 5

I absolutely loved my stay in this stunning house! Pippa did everything she could to make my week as perfect as possible. Memories of watching the sunset from the lovely garden within the medieval ramparts across the vineyards whilst sipping a glass of local wine (recommended by Pippa) will get me through the dark British winter... I have stayed in a lot of airbnbs across the world and this is definitely my favourite - a great house for both an active and a relaxing break in stunning surroundings blending tradition with modern comfort. I only wish I had stayed longer to have time to sample all Pippa's wonderful restaurant recommendations (well deserved after my cycle up the nearby famous Mount Ventoux!). The village is very easy to reach, I took the direct Eurostar to Avignon from London (under 6 hours) and then hired a car from there to the village of Sablet (an easy 30 minute drive) through other Côtes du Rhône Villages. (Or a little more than 30 minutes if you stop to taste all the famous wines...) I'll just have to decide when to return, so many choices - Avignon international theatre festival in July, when the Tour de France next climbs Mount Ventoux, the village book festival, or for a winter escape to take advantage of the views from the house and the cosy wood-burning stove...

A perfect home base to discover all of Provence

  • 5 of 5

Could anything be more charming than Pippa’s place in Sablet? Pictures can’t do justice to the uniqueness and character of what she has created within the walls of this enchanted medieval village. An amazing view over all of Provence through the windows from every room as you sit atop the remparts of the medieval walls. Perfectly decorated with charming antiques blended with creature comforts and top of the line appliances and lighting. The kitchen complete with everything you need to cook at home and create your own meals with local ingredients from the abundant local markets in every village. Choose the right day for your day trips and you can find one every day of the week.

She has a perfect location just inside the residential area of the village. While local vehicles can make it through the tiny laneways, it’s made for foot traffic and all the services are located surrounding the village, which makes it the perfect place to live. You have your privacy, few tourists walking through and services just steps away. Parking is EASY. Not said for most places we stayed anywhere in France. Internet fast, landline available, lovely private outdoor living area a sweet bonus.

A perfect home base to discover all of Provence north of the sea. Day trips to Seguret, Vaison la Romaine, Orange, L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, Saint Remy de Provence, Les Baux, Arles, Orange, Gigondas, Beaumes de Venise, Nimes, just to name a few. Stay a week, ~ you’ll need it.

Lastly, it was MOST helpful that Pippa speaks multiple languages and English fluently. Others I tried to book with found my questions about parking, fees, security deposits frustrating, I think because they were not comfortable speaking English. Pippa was the most friendly, patient, accommodating and communicative of all our hosts. Many mahalos from your Hawaii guests. We hope to see you in our part of the world some day.

Great family acommodation in unique village

  • 4 of 5

Perfect setting to explore the Cote Du Rhones region, fantastic restaurants and villages nearby. Accommodation was gorgeous, clean and unique being in the ramparts. Great for families and good location for day trips to Vaison la romain, Ventoux and many others. Access to bikes was a bonus. Sablet itself had everything including bakeries and restaurant options.
